Nice little compilation of top plays from the Wolfpack’s 7-5 regular season. A few quick observations: (1) I kinda feel like there had to be something
[See the full post at: NC State’s Top 10 Plays of 2014]12/16/2014 at 11:25 AM #65458pakfanistanParticipantPretty sure Gary Hahn can distinguish between Dayes and Thornton.
I still love the McKever pick 6. I think we might see a couple more of those in his career. He’s a converted WR if I’m not mistaken.
12/16/2014 at 11:33 AM #65462WufpackerParticipantThough Brissett’s Superman Play vs FSU is rightfully in the top spot, the Underwood reverse vs Wake is my personal favorite.
The video doesn’t do it justice. Great team effort on that one.
12/16/2014 at 12:49 PM #65472MikeParticipantI am sorry but Gary “check it” Hahn is an embarrassment to us. His professionalism is fine, but he has no knowledge of the game. I know the job of the color guys are to add the expert opinion but the play by play guy is always much better when he understands the game.
12/16/2014 at 12:56 PM #65473ruffles31KeymasterThe best play of the year was Brissett vs. FSU.
The most important play of the year (and of the Doeren era so far) was McKeever’s pick six.
If he doesn’t pick that off, Syracuse makes it at least 17-9 and they had all the momentum and our offense hadn’t doing anything since halfway through the 2nd quarter. Who knows if State would then come back and win.
12/16/2014 at 1:56 PM #65476TheCOWDOGModeratorMcKeever should have 2.
That pancaking of the Unx tackle was quite unforgetable.12/16/2014 at 2:28 PM #65477pakfanistanParticipantMcKeever should have 2.<br>
That pancaking of the Unx tackle was quite unforgetable.Do you remember when that happened in the game? I want to go back and watch it.
12/16/2014 at 2:32 PM #65478TheCOWDOGModeratorHey…The play was so memorable, that it erased time and space.
12/16/2014 at 2:41 PM #65479pakfanistanParticipantI guess I’ll just have to watch the whole thing all over again 😉

Well – I, for one, needed a suggestion on what to watch tonight. Sounds pretty good to me.
12/16/2014 at 2:48 PM #65481bill.onthebeachParticipant… ^well… If I was a ‘voting’ member on the Selection Committee…
I would have made the ENTIRE SIXTY MINUTES in Kenan my Number One choice …
Afterall… the headline says ‘Top Ten Plays’ and that sixty minutes was the BEST !!!
#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!12/16/2014 at 3:23 PM #65487Fastback68ParticipantUnderwood’s run and Noel’s sideline hit on Williams were the DVR plays I watched the most. I believe it will be much harder next year to pick the 10 best plays.
12/16/2014 at 3:40 PM #65489PackerInRussiaParticipantMy Top 10 would go something like this:
10) Any play from the UNC game
9) Any play from the UNC game
8) Any play from the UNC game
7) Any play from the UNC game
6) Any play from the UNC game
5) Any play from the UNC game
4) Any play from the UNC game
3) Any play from the UNC game
2) Any play from the UNC game
1) Jacoby Brissett TD throw against FSU12/16/2014 at 5:18 PM #65491JasonPParticipantIf it wasn’t for Gary “Check that…” Hahn, I’d have no idea if the offense was driving left to right or right to left – the whole freakin’ game would be lost to me. “Where are they going? Which way are we kicking???” Fortunately, “Check that…” comes in at just the right time to let me know. Whew! He’s our own frustratingly hilarious version of Harey Carey. All I can say is Johnny Evans must be a saint.
That UNC pancake came deep in their own territory. I think it happened in the second…check that…late in the first half. I could be wrong. You got a 50/50 chance. Hell, I’d just enjoy the whole game again!
12/17/2014 at 4:05 AM #65500PackerInRussiaParticipant^ Nice use of “check that”.
I think it’s a great phrase. It neutralizes the adage of think before you speak. “Honey, that dress makes you look fat…check that…beautiful.” It’s a much better phrase than, say, “Like I said…” I’ve heard many a conversation continue endlessly thanks to that phrase.12/17/2014 at 7:06 AM #65504StateFansKeymasterpakfanistan, you are right. Check that. You are wrong.
Why would you say that Hahn distinguishes Dayes from Thornton when the very first piece of video shows that he does not? Of course he CAN distinguish the two. But, he appears to fail to do so with the kind of regularity that one would expect from someone whose job it is to be successful at doing it with enormous consistency.
12/17/2014 at 8:50 AM #65508JasonPParticipantInstead of calling it the “Edit” function for posts, it should be called “Check That” in honor of Gary.
12/17/2014 at 9:26 AM #65512WTNYParticipantNo, Gary Hahn isn’t the greatest. But I’ve always thought Gary Hahn suffers from the mediocre nature of NC State sports.
At any rate, I think part of Gary’s problem may be vision, at least in football:
Behind the Scenes – Gameday Operations at Carter-Finley Stadium12/17/2014 at 10:37 AM #65516bill.onthebeachParticipant… blah, blah, blah … bs …
Nobody ‘loves’ the WOLFPACK more than Gary Hahn… Nobody.
… and if you’re picking your ‘front guy’ … the ‘voice’ of the Wolfpack…
that’s GOTT to be your top priority. If you don’t have that… nothing else matters.
Look around and who do ya’ll see…
… a campus – full of ‘Gary Hahns’…
… Carter Stadium – full of ‘Gary Hahns’…
… the PNC – full of ‘Gary Hahns’ …
… a Wolfpack Club – full of ‘Gary Hahns’…
… an Alumni Association – full of ‘Gary Hahns’…Guys and gals in Red and White…
… very few of them … slick, polished and articulate… none perfect …
… All of them who honestly ‘love the PACK’ and bust their butts showing it…Just like Bill Jackson and Wally Ausley before him…
Gary Hahn is NC State. <period>
#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!12/17/2014 at 10:59 AM #65517WufpackerParticipantThe McKeever pancake in question is just past the 4 minute mark…
12/17/2014 at 11:18 AM #65518JasonPParticipant^ I was right…late in the first half!
Nothing personal against Gary. I get the sense that he’s a character guy, and probably the salt of the earth. Not striving for absolute perfection, but I’d just like to hear someone else a little more capable of relaying what’s happening on the field at any given time. The play-by-play guy should be able to hold his own, and paint a picture for the listener with the color man coming in periodically to spice things up. IMO, we’ve got one of the greatest color men in college football radio history with Johnny Evans (props to Tony Haynes for bball as well). He makes the radio broadcasts listenable, and makes up for a lot. I’m not an expert, but I tune into a lot of radio broadcasts b/c I’m unable to get to games frequently and the Pack is almost never on a TV station I get. Gary is servicable, but we can do better. Certainly, the university with the greatest radio station of all time, WKNC 88.1, can produce someone that can give us a better play-by-play broadcast, and balance Larry Munson-like homerism with honest and straight forward descriptions of action on the field. We’ve got St. Gary until he retires, but here’s hoping we get an improvement when the time comes.
12/17/2014 at 1:09 PM #65525PackerInRussiaParticipantI have no problem with Gary. I always enjoyed listening to him. I thought he had a good radio sports announcer voice and for me, that’s a big part of the enjoyment of listening. But, it is fun to point out people’s idiosyncrasies. And “check that” is a good one.
