Whoa! You sir, have said a mouthful!!!
(btw, if you do not know who Tammy is – DON’T LOOK HER UP! Too scary!)
If the players are reading this blog, I would be amazed. If so, someone please speak up and let us know. I think the majority of us are enjoying this team more than any in recent memory and are optimistic about the future.
If the coaches are reading us, then they are getting some priceless tips on raising their games. If you guys are out there, you’re welcome!
02/26/2014 at 1:22 PM #42415wufpup76KeymasterThanks a lot for the write-up / preview.
I wish I could say something that would at the very least stoke the fire of (false) hope; alas, all I have is ‘let’s just see what happens’.
BTW – any objection to starting a ‘game thread’ in the forums? I’d be happy to start one if folks would use it instead of the preview. The previews are wonderful, but kinda tough on the ol’ pc when going through page by page when the previews double as the game thread. The images, etc. make for a lot of scrolling and stuff – no complaints, of course – just a thought 🙂
02/26/2014 at 1:25 PM #42416JohnGalt78ParticipantRe; earlier post about what needs to happen for us to win …1) we play out of our minds, 2) cheaters suck it up and 3) refs call a fair game. Are you kidding me??? 1 and 2 can happen. But 3??? No…this is a done deal. This is like pro-wrestling except the refs don’t need to be told when they show up at the arena who is suppose to win. That’s a given. No way in hell a blue on red game is called fairly. I have a tendency to think this way because I’ve studied my tendencies. F*ck carolina. F*ck swofford. And F*ck karl hess and his band of brown nose, ass kissing, power starved, blue panty wearing cronies.
02/26/2014 at 1:26 PM #42418VaWolf82KeymasterMy first State-Carolina game was Clyde the Glide with the between the legs pass to Hawkeye Whitney for a slam.
My first was Clyde to Dudley Bradley for a slam.
02/26/2014 at 1:27 PM #42419Whiteshoes67ParticipantIn my mind, there a few certainties about this game.
1. We won’t hold UNC under 75.
2. We’ll get outrebounded. For us to win, so many things have to go right. Quite simply, Warren has to be the best player on the court tonight, get at least 30, Barber has to match Page, and Turner/Lee or both have to score in double figures. Getting Washington in double figures would be a bonus. I’ve said all year long, bu particularly against solid man-to-man teams, our best lineup is the small lineup, preferably featuring Barber, Lee, Turner, Warren, and one big. And I’d prefer to see some kind of trapping, or full-court press, at least periodically. How about a little strategy Gott?

You can add comments to the preview entry from the forums. Thus we shouldn’t need a separate thread.
02/26/2014 at 1:37 PM #42421bill.onthebeachParticipant^67… you’ve heard something from inside the HOLE ??
Uncle Roy’s only going to play Paige ten minutes tonight ???Wow !!
And you got a good gameplan there… just need the execution.
The easiest way for CUZ to be the best on the floor…
is to go right at MacAdoo from the start…. get two-three fouls on him and put him on the bench or die trying…#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!02/26/2014 at 1:37 PM #42422FergusWolfParticipantWolfWiz11 wrote:
I remember a post a few weeks ago where the poster made a good point. What if the fellas are reading these forums? What if they saw the lack of faith people have in them? Could that be contributing to their lack of confidence on the court?Today’s world is different that previous generations, these guys have had access to people lauding their greatness and tearing them down for their every flaw since they were in middle school.
By now, the smart ones have figured out not to visit web-sites like StateFansNation.com, because 94.3% of it is irrational hooey.
I’d be more worried about the paranoia our team would have about the refs /league/country/taliban/etc… all being out to get them (personally), because they decided to play for state. That’s the predominant theme of this web site at times. If they read this web-site they would be constantly looking over their shoulder waiting for a bad call..
hm…. maybe THATs why Des dribbled off his shoe, because he was looking over his shoulder…
02/26/2014 at 1:51 PM #42423VaWolf82KeymasterThis game will have little if any bearing on the NCAAT for this State team. Barring a run to the ACCT title game, that ship has already sailed (and sunk).
Herb proved beyond all doubt that this statement is horribly wrong. In 2002 and 2003 combined, State won a total of three games against NCAA teams. Yet State made the tourney both years.
Note that there is a big difference in having a chance and being good enough to take advantage of that chance. But State definitely still has a chance at a NCAAT bid without playing in the ACCT championship game.

Agreed, FergusWolf, I do believe ACC officiating is suspect at best, but at the same time I tire of hearing the fans complain about it. The best teams don’t worry about officiating and I want NCSU to be considered amongst the best, instead of being looked down on as the “red-headed stepbrother.” The bottom line is, a lot of times we are RIGHT there, and we make a mistake that throws the game away. I believe we can win if we play smart and minimize/negate those mistakes. Defend without fouling, and I like someone’s earlier point of playing a press every now and then; make your free throws; no careless passes; and if possible, make a few three pointers (40% or higher would be nice for just a day). And please, we absolutely cannot go on a scoring drought to start a half, we need Lewis and Barber to minimize the turnovers, get Warren going early, and move without the ball so that they can get other guys involved.
02/26/2014 at 2:01 PM #42425gso packbackerParticipantNo worries about the outcome of tonight’s contest. I’m playing with the emotional equivalent of house money.
Of course, if we end up losing like we did to Syracuse, then I might phone Regis for the keys to liquor cabinet.

02/26/2014 at 2:08 PM #42428AdventurooParticipantTOTALLY out of the norm for this….but TOO GOOD TO MISS.
If you read Dan Kane’s latest on the COST of the Crack Legal Team and ACE investigator (Make’s Dick Tracy look like a Keystone Kop), their fees are $2.750 per hour for the FOUR. The lead guy gets $990….In other words, if they work ONE DAY, that would totally fund a In-State UNC Student for a YEAR. FOUR DAYS….the entire four years.
Now WHY do they need an ACE to tell them what happened?
02/26/2014 at 2:21 PM #42429WTNYParticipantI’ve seen about a hundred of these State v *NC games…
I am pretty sure I have already seen tonight’s game at least once….The fun part is I don’t know which one… so I GOTT to watch to find out.
I’ve seen tonight’s game too. I don’t know which one, but I know what kind. The bad kind.
02/26/2014 at 2:25 PM #42430Pack85EEParticipantSO last time, we let them blow out to a big lead and then played even the rest of the way. Of course, any team with a double digit lead does not have to play all out. But we could win this thing. Here are my wishful thinking but not impossible keys to the game.
1. 3 point and free throw shooting percentages need to be better. Hitting a few early 3’s would be a great start.
2. Stay out of foul trouble. It would be great if we get a squad that calls it loose. A squad like what we had in Winston-Salem while playing UNC and we’ll be playing the small line up and using walk-ons.
3. Avoid those dangerous back court turnovers
4. Defensive rebounding.Items 1 and 3 above apply most to our 1 -2 positions which I think is where we are not quite as strong as we had hoped to be this year. We need all 4 of those guys to bring it tonight.
We need another good night from Washington too. Maybe a forth guy to get to double digit scoring, Warren, Turner, Washington and ???02/26/2014 at 2:42 PM #42431wufpup76Keymaster“You can add comments to the preview entry from the forums. Thus we shouldn’t need a separate thread.”
^True, but I was referring mostly to having to load the images and scroll on each page (first world problems, I know). But it’s all good 🙂

What he’s saying is if you go through the forums then the content of my preview doesn’t show up (just the comments) as opposed to going through the main page.
02/26/2014 at 3:31 PM #42435FergusWolfParticipantSo, out of interest, I watched part of the Wichita State vs. Bradley game last night.
If you haven’t seen them play, I’m sure you’ll get a chance during the tourney.
The motivation and commitment they demonstrated during the game was what I want to see every time I watch and NC State game…
I saw that during the Syracuse game, I didn’t see it during the first half of UN*, first half of Duke, any of Clemson (I could go on…)
It would be easy for WSU to say “Hey, we’re 29-0 and playing Bradley (who has a sub-0.500 record in their league), so we don’t really have to try hard tonight”., but they didn’t to that. And, even though they were not shooting well in the first half (3-14 from 3pt line at one point), they were hustling…

02/26/2014 at 3:36 PM #42438WulfpackParticipantThe Shockers are REALLY fun to watch. They play balls to the wall. And they do have some very good players.

There are several teams that play this way, Duke, WSU, VCU, probably more that I’m not aware of. Unfortunately in the ACC, we have Virginia, VT, and Clempson that stifle all the fun out of the game.
I really like attacking defenses and attacking offenses. But then, I watch NASCAR, Snowboard Cross, and Curling for the crashes too…
Maybe there is something wrong with me, I’ll ask my wife.

^I just tested this, and it’s correct. Thanks. I had got it in my head that the article section loaded even in the forums (could’ve sworn it did).
Looks like we don’t need it Plywood haha … unless there’s already so many comments in the preview section.
02/26/2014 at 4:07 PM #42446FergusWolfParticipantfound this on twitter, after I picked myself off the floor, I decided to share it here:
