See her dad is a unc fan and grandpa is trying to bring her up right. One thing going my way is she sure likes the new helmets.
09/05/2014 at 7:55 AM #55455Pack78Participant^Tuffy-How old is she? Take her to the game later this year in CH and she could get a diploma!
09/05/2014 at 9:18 AM #55459WufpackerParticipantI’m looking forward to seeing Heinicke play. He is currently 29th for career passing yards, 22nd in career total offense, and 16th in career TD passes. He will likely finish top 10 in each category before season’s end. He also seems like a pretty good kid.
Hopefully we can find a way to get some consistent pressure on him, but that is far from a given.
09/05/2014 at 9:23 AM #55460mak4dpakParticipantI really don’t feel the defense is that bad. First game working out things, and certainly got better as the game went along. Guess we shall see.
09/05/2014 at 10:52 AM #55465StateRed44ParticipantIf we can’t get by ODU at night at home by more than 7, yes it will be a long year. I’m expecting at least a 17 pt win.
09/05/2014 at 11:03 AM #55468VaWolf82KeymasterNice job on the preview.
The Pack should be able to easily move the ball against the ODU defense. If it can’t things are worse than we feared and it’s going to be a long night and season.
Fans all too often maximize the positives and minimize the negatives in these types of games. I tend to concentrate on the negatives since too many of the perceived positives disappear when playing better opponents…while the negatives will only get worse. It appears that you take the same approach.
If the Pack defense has truly improved during the off-season then they shouldn’t have a problem out scoring ODU and essentially cover the spread.
With so few offensive starters returning, it’s hard to judge just how good ODU’s offense will be this season. Nevertheless, a poor defensive performance will certainly be bad news when looking towards ACC play.

If this doesn’t happen, we’re in trouble again this year…
Our guys need to have the mindset that they are playing in a Power Five conference – anything less is totally unacceptable against a first year FBS (and only sixth year overall) team.
No excuse for any nail-biting in this game – at all.

I don’t have a link, but the game is only available online…ESPN3

09/05/2014 at 11:36 AM #55475TheCOWDOGModeratorIt will be interesting to see the defensive contrasts in scheming for air, as opposed to ground.
Just as interesting will be how much they are willing to “show” in week 2.
I don’t think we will get a feel for defensive identity until traveling down to USF.

Yup, only see the worst because bad is really bad against lesser opponents while good could be fools gold.

It’s really tough to determine how good they really are on offense but a great QB can make up for a lot. If you’re going to be young it might as well be in the receiver corps since they can excel the fastest.

It’s more of a hoping that Hipster Cat is representative of the passing game; at least vs. ODU.
09/05/2014 at 7:44 PM #55496choppack1ParticipantLooking forward to game Saturday… On both o and d; as 1.21 correctly notes, if we can’t win this one going away it will be another long season. But at least we’ll beat wake.

play until the whistle’s echo.09/05/2014 at 11:33 PM #55508packalum44ParticipantI’m a bit surprised we are 16.5 point favorites. 65.5 over/under so at least we can expect some offense. Sadly our defense is expected to give up approximately 24 points.
I want a SFN poll…will ODU’s 2-star running back rush for 100-150 OR 150+? I’m thinking 170 yards with 2 TDs.
09/05/2014 at 11:35 PM #55509packalum44ParticipantI wonder how many of our players whittled down their last 3 schools to 1) NC State 2) ODU 3) GA Southern….
09/06/2014 at 8:28 AM #55513mak4dpakParticipantI, for one, think the defense will be greatly improved today. Alot of the offense last week came on big plays for GS. I am sure that was worked on this week. But we will see tonight. Go Pack!
09/06/2014 at 8:55 AM #55514tootallorderParticipantpackalum44 – With your 200+ negative posts, one fact remains true: UNC-CHeats
09/06/2014 at 9:52 AM #555171.21 JigawattsKeymasterI want to point out just a couple of things, just in case I haven’t made it clear already, we have absolutely no idea what this team can and can’t do on either side of the ball. It’s very difficult to draw many conclusions from the game against GSU:
1. GSU runs a non-conventional offense so not many on D are prepared for assignment D and thus the big plays.
2. State was breaking in a brand new QB who hasn’t played a game in 2 years and looked off in the first half. The only thing I think we could take away from it was the confirmation that State is severely lacking in talent considering GSU looked equal or better.
ODU will play the Spread but I still don’t think there are any positives State will be able to take away from playing this team. If State beats the snot out of them we don’t know if it’s because ODU still isn’t ready for the FBS level as last year’s performances show. So the only things to gleam from today’s game is looking for the negatives, or the areas where we struggle, and if they are similar to last year, and last week, then we can infer State will continue to struggle in these areas all season. Just for the record, while GSU may help State for GT this year, playing ODU and Presbyterian do nothing for State, even the quest for the almighty “Bowl Eligibility”. Presbyterian does absolutely nothing for this team, especially when coupled with ODU this season, and if you think we can’t glean any positives from today’s game then wait until State plays a team that is lacking even more talent than State does.
This isn’t about Poo Pooing on State, this is about what can we realistically learn about this team before State plays a conference game. Just as a reminder, State’s first 2 ACC games are against FSU & Clemson. I believe the only things we can learn are, as VaWolf pointed out, areas you struggle in against weaker competition will only get worse as you play teams with better talent.
09/06/2014 at 11:54 AM #55521tractor57ParticipantI saw a couple things last week. First we have a quarterback who can throw as opposed to last year – time will tell if he D1 level. Also the team never quit playing.
