I enjoyed watching this game warts and all. What I saw was a team effort where most everyone in a State uniform contributed.
I’ve been watching ACC basketball since the ’60’s. Looked much like atypical game to me.
No wonder I don’t post much here lately as the tone seems to be F the refs and the ACC – sometimes that is deserved but most times not so much.

^Not my quote, of course, but admittedly I was very negative tonight – sorry if I took away enjoyment of the game thread.
Call it part bad mood (no excuse), but the whistles were way too much for me personally tonight. Other than the first 10 or so minutes I didn’t have much problem with State’s performance or effort, and of course I’m glad we won. Sitting with two kids who want to know why there’s a whistle every single time the ball crosses halfcourt one way or the other is very discouraging though. I want them to be able to have fun watching a game or going to a game, not sighing literally every 20 seconds when there’s another whistle.
You and others saying that the refs were just doing what they do certainly have a point, but in my opinion Rick has a point as well. For a myriad of reasons, basketball isn’t what it used to be and I suppose that’s a discussion for another time.
There will always be ugly, whistle-marred games – but they really seem to be more of the norm these days rather than the exception … of course that’s not on just the refs – but sometimes it is – I thought tonight was one of those times.
… not taking anything away from the Showgirls…
but in any other game for the last several (I don’t know how many) seasons… if there had been 50 personal fouls called…
we would have lost by double digits…we have more depth than at any time in years AND we made some free throws tonight…
that’s worth noting…
