As weird as it may sound, NC State’s loss improved the Wolfpack’s RPI to somewhere around the range of ~38 to 40 and keeps the strength of schedule am
[See the full post at: Move ahead, put it in the past]03/13/2015 at 9:35 AM #79414CodebrownParticipantAssuming that we can beat a 7 seed. It all depends on which NC State team shows up. That’s been this season’s moniker.
03/13/2015 at 9:40 AM #79415PackzingoParticipantThe Sun came up and its a new day!!
Any word on Cats status?? I watched several local stations to see if any
news was reported but since he wasn’t wearing Blue, nothing!03/13/2015 at 9:41 AM #79416choppack1ParticipantOur kenpom and sagarin took a beating.
Biggest question today is health of cat. Both from a short-term NC state perspective but more importantly – cat’s long term health.
If he can go…hopefully team and staff were reminded again of the hunger and intensity great teams have. Can’t be too hard on them – they have won 6 of 8 in impressive fashion… But the 2 losses, oh my
03/13/2015 at 9:42 AM #79417ncsu_kappaParticipanthey just glad that game is over… glad the computers don’t take into account margin of victory lol c’mon committee hook us with a good easy bracket
03/13/2015 at 9:43 AM #79418mak4dpakParticipantAfter the BC loss, then the Duke loss, I trust the bad team will be locked away for good, if we wanna get anywhere. The media did us no favors with the accolades heaped upon us after the Pitt win. I think that was a major factor in the loss last night. Time to move onn and start a new winning streak.
03/13/2015 at 9:44 AM #79419RowdyNCSUParticipantDoes anyone know what’s going on with Washington? I know Gott has his line-up and rotation that has left him on the outside, but he didn’t even see time during mop-up duty last night. At this rate will he be the next annual post-season transfer?
03/13/2015 at 9:55 AM #79421PapaJohnParticipantWelp, that was a nightmare. As well as we played in the first Duke game, we played equally poorly last night.
I was encouraged to see that Gott was able to get them refocused and playing much better in the second. We actually out scored them by a little in the second. But it’s hard to imagine anyone coming back from 27 down on a Coach K team. And they still shot over 50% in both halves.
Obviously, without Cat, we have a big problem – so hopefully this break will give him time to recover.
Sadly, whoever we play in the NCAAT will go right to the tape from this game for the formula to beat us to death. I would expect to see that pressure again.
03/13/2015 at 10:10 AM #79424Whiteshoes67ParticipantIf Cat has a concussion, that will be his second that’s been reported while at State. Add that to an ankle injury that forced him to sit last year, and the regular bumps and bruises of a regular season. He’s a tough youngster, fearless, and plays hard. I’m not blaming anyone for last night, but it shouldn’t have ever happened at that stage in the game.
Depending on matchups and his health, we could still be trouble for someone in the tournament.
I’m not a Washington fan, but I agree, he should’ve played last night earlier and more often against the matchup zone. He had 9 on 4/7 shooting in 20 minutes last game. We needed his offense to collapse that zone, or at least threaten it. Freeman and Abu are passive at the top. Anya had a solid performance in Game I, but he cannot defend their bigs or the screen and roll. We were dead last night anyway you slice it, but I do think we could’ve been more competitive. The score doesn’t really accurately reflect how much of a blowout it was. K called off the dogs early.
03/13/2015 at 10:18 AM #79428MISTA WOLFParticipantGood post for the morning after. By some post last night you would have expected to see a pale white horse riding through the streets. New day, new season, where anything can happen. GO F’n PACK!! My lefty cig hit the spot last night 😉
03/13/2015 at 10:21 AM #79429WulfpackParticipantThe media did us no favors with the accolades heaped upon us after the Pitt win.
I agree. There was a mountain of praise going the Pack’s way yesterday.
We’re still the same team that can do some serious damage. Just got to get right between the ears (and of course hope like the dickens Cat is good to go).
03/13/2015 at 10:28 AM #79430RickKeymasterIt is really a compliment to this team that K changed his normal tactics. He really wanted this win and for more than just an ACC title.
I did not give us much chance in this game so I am not that dissapointed.
03/13/2015 at 10:33 AM #79432AdventurooParticipantRE CAT….
Fayetteville observer has NOT info on condition…except what is here about his previous concussion. Focus, per ESPN, was on his neck. We were right across the way. He stayed on the deck what seemed like an eternity and the Refs just let Duke score and call ANOTHER foul….then looked at Cat. He did not move. The coaching staff would have had a T on them if they had come out….and the Ref had to signal…”Ok….pick up your wounded…”
Here is a quote from Abu about the incident. Shows real BB IQ…
“I take full responsibility for that one,” Abu said. “I just had scored and was running back to get on ‘D’ and Amile stayed. You expect your defender to run with you and try to get a transition bucket, and he stayed. By the time I turned around, Cat ran into him. It’s a learning experience as a freshman – always protect your point guard, and that’s crucial. I failed at that one.”
No word on Cat’s condition….
03/13/2015 at 10:46 AM #79434PackzingoParticipantWell Jefferson has been a point of discussion since the day he traded hats!! That was a questionable screen at best. Why the crap was even backcourt? It wasn’t like we had a full court press or anything.
03/13/2015 at 10:51 AM #79435BJD95KeymasterIt’s a dick move. Within the confines of the formal rules, but not the unwritten ones.
Just sayin, Amile and Mike…Karma is a bitch.
The refs should ALWAYS stop play IMMEDIATELY for a head injury. Certainly no excuse when the outcome is well past decided already. Just goes to show how cowed they all are by K.
03/13/2015 at 10:53 AM #79436WulfpackParticipantWhy the crap was even backcourt? It wasn’t like we had a full court press or anything.
Cat was pressuring Jones full court. It was a simple screen to create some space. Abu has to call that as that’s his man, he said as much. Just lost track following the score. Dirty or not, we did ourselves no favors on that one.
03/13/2015 at 11:07 AM #79437WolfWiz11ParticipantMove on, be strong.
03/13/2015 at 11:14 AM #79438KhanParticipantI tried to keep the winning streak going by continuing to pick us to lose, but unfortunately, Duke is more talented and played with laser focus and efficient execution. We didn’t help ourselves at all, don’t get me wrong, but they were going to probably win that game no matter what.
Now as far as some of the accolades comments above go, we’d better learn to deal with that if we’re going to be a top team. We can’t continue to let such things be a factor in our success, if they even are. But if they are and we do, then a top tier team we won’t be.
03/13/2015 at 11:18 AM #79439BJD95KeymasterRight now, Duke and Kentucky are just on a whole ‘nother planet than everyone else.
03/13/2015 at 11:19 AM #79440ILPackfanParticipantDefinitely more concerned about Cat’s well-being than the loss itself. At least he’ll have some days to recover. About the loss, well, I’m in the camp that thinks a 10 or 11 seed is a better path through the round of 32 than an 8/9 matchup with the 1 seed.
So while I didn’t appreciate the ugliness of the loss, it makes it seem more likely to have more upside than down.
03/13/2015 at 11:24 AM #79441BJD95KeymasterI doubt we even fall to a 9. 8 all the way, yo.
03/13/2015 at 11:33 AM #79444VaWolf82KeymasterMove ahead, put it in the past
Does it seem like we say that alot, or is just me?
On the other hand, my worst-case projections had this as a wasted year after the loss of Warren. Next year could be good if State doesn’t lose anyone unexpectedly.
03/13/2015 at 11:33 AM #79445Alpha WolfKeymasterThe refs should ALWAYS stop play IMMEDIATELY for a head injury.
Yes, exactly like they do in soccer.
If there is a severe enough injury, mere seconds can matter when it comes to getting medical attention.
03/13/2015 at 11:35 AM #79446Alpha WolfKeymasterDoes anyone know what’s going on with Washington?
Aside from the fact that he’s never learned how to play defense at the college level, I am not sure either.
Maybe he’s already told the coaches he’s leaving. I expect him to go after the season.
03/13/2015 at 11:44 AM #79447MISTA WOLFParticipantObviously Washington has to be transferring. I speculate Gott had to make a choice and keep 2 of 3 between Lenard, Anya and Washington. We see who has seen the court over the last 2+ weeks.
Palm has us as a 10 seed at the moment opening up against Steve Lavin’s Red Storm. I would take that in a heartbeat. Of course the potential is to play Wisconsin, who I can argue we match up with or don’t match up with. They’ve had our number the last few times we’ve played them.
