If UNC really wants to show some semblance of contrition for their dubious class offerings and athlete attendance policies they should hire someone to

Must have been put up there by some technowizpackprideguy…

09/17/2014 at 12:28 PM #56429WufpackerParticipantMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Ability to navigate campus buildings. Must be able to create a system of monitoring class attendance without disrupting classroom activity.UNC alums need not apply?
09/17/2014 at 2:35 PM #56443ncsu1987ParticipantThis is going to shock some of you, but I filtered the results by the job “Working Title” of “Class Checker” and opened the search to all campuses. It’s strange, but the ONLY university in the entire system with that position opening is….UNC-CH.
This seems to suggest that the PWB who determine hiring/firing/positional needs thinks that out of the entire UNC system, class checkers are only needed at UNC-CH. That can’t be right, can it? The self-proclaimed FLAGSHIP needs extra bodies to keep their student-athletes in class, but nobody else does?
Guess it’s possible that UNC-CH is the only school with an OPEN position. Now off to see if there’s a site that will give me current employees across the system…
09/17/2014 at 2:46 PM #56444ncsu1987ParticipantUNC alums need not apply?
Hey, Wuf, not so sure. Found another description of the job here. Including additional info:
Hiring Range: $10.61-$11.00/per hour
Maybe it IS for UNC-CH graduates. How many other graduates of “properly accredited institutions” would work for that?
09/17/2014 at 2:51 PM #56445Pack78ParticipantFrom the ad:
Monitor class attendance for designed student-athletes.
Did some unx English grad mean to use the word ‘designated’?
09/17/2014 at 3:04 PM #56446WufpackerParticipantMaybe it IS for UNC-CH graduates. How many other graduates of “properly accredited institutions” would work for that?
Gonna be hell breaking the habit of saying “paper or plastic”.
09/17/2014 at 4:14 PM #56449inhoc…ParticipantPerhaps it was meant to read “classes DESIGNED FOR student athletes?”(or the lack there off) That would fall more in line with the culture over there.
09/17/2014 at 4:29 PM #56450GowolvesParticipantWufpacker I think you meant, “Would you like to super size that?”
09/17/2014 at 8:01 PM #56460NCSU84ParticipantThere are so many issues with this ‘Class Checker’, where do I begin:
1) Someone actually approved these positions. Knowing the UNC bureaucracy as I do, many administrators had to approve this posting and apparently thought this was a great idea.
2) What message does this send to college athletes? ‘you are not responsible’, ‘you must be treated like babies’
3) How is this preparing these athletes for the real world? Is someone going to check on them at their first job? Make sure they do not miss meetings, monitor their attendance, etc. Oh wait, their boss will do this and I am sure the boss will be understanding since they are former UNC athletes (sarcasm intended).
09/17/2014 at 8:25 PM #56464RaisedByWolvesParticipantIf I were retired from my current career, I would totally apply for that job.
09/17/2014 at 10:09 PM #56471ncsu75ParticipantNew to the site and I share many of the feelings posted but I tire of spending our time and energy with what is being done or not at our “sister” university. We would be better served, in my opinion, to taking care of business in Raleigh and being the best that we can be.

Since you’re new to the site I’ll cut you a little slack but here’s a friendly piece of advice…If you don’t want to read or talk on topics concerning UNC then don’t click on the discussions and definitely don’t take the time to post on topics. It’s really that simple. Instead, you’d be “better served” reading and posting on the pleathera of other articles/threads that talk about NC State. If you expect a site dedicated to college sports isn’t going to have fun at their rivals expense any chance we get then you obviously are not only new to this site but new to sports in general.

I did not see any slack cut nor anything friendly but … hey … welcome new member!
09/18/2014 at 9:36 AM #56481ncsu75ParticipantThanks for the warm welcome JW. New to posting on the site but not new to reading it and certainly not new to sports in general. I, too, enjoy having fun at our rivals expense and have especially enjoyed watching the gift that keeps on giving over the past few years. My point is that sometimes I feel like we are mired in consciously or subconsciously comparing NCSU to those whiny, liberal, self serving, chest bumping high brows and I just wish we would set our sights higher.
Thanks ansu87…….

Everybody’s welcome here… except those who want to call each other names… you can point out errors in logic, facts, etc… all day long, just don’t question anybody’s fanhood or loyalty… Others have been banned for that.
And you just to except the fact that about 20% of those who hang here (not calling any names)… b%tch, whine and moan about anything or everything… and will never be satisfied with anything less than perfection…and do what most everybody else does… ignore that stuff.
In other words… SFN ain’t nothing but the TV room of the old frat house…
and brothers will be brothers… except we have a few ‘sisters’ that hang out here too…btw… I’m class of ’76.

I’ve been here a while, but not nearly as long as a lot of the posters here. My personal opinion is that this site strikes a pretty good balance. Review the posts for the last month, you’ll see that the vast majority are related to NC State sports.
It’s important to occasionally shine a bright light on the cess pool in Orange County precisely for the reason that very few others will do it. A big part of the overall story is the extreme disinterest among all parties who could hold UNC accountable. Regardless of what the population at large may think, this site, along with one or two others, is largely responsible for the continued attention. Without diligence and persistence, this story would have died years ago.
If I could be assured that some crack investigative team was on the job and regularly reporting, I’d be happy to abdicate. But we’ve seen clearly that’s not the case. As I’ve said in numerable posts before, all I want is a level playing field. Once I get that, I’ll happily ignore those bastards. But until I get it, I reserve my right to illuminate what I see and to call it as I see it.
09/18/2014 at 12:19 PM #56500ncsu1987ParticipantPulled quick report of all SFN posts from 6/1/14 – 7/18/14.
81 posts, with 7 of them focusing on the UNC scandal, including 3 back-to-back when the McCants story broke in early June.
Supports my instinct that the balance is pretty good.

Welcome! I know where you are coming from, and get tired of it myself sometimes. And when I do, I just don’t read the article. But sometimes they just beg for it. LOL
09/18/2014 at 2:50 PM #56517ruffles31KeymasterDon’t forget now that these jobs, with benefits are being paid for in large part with taxpayer dollars. So you North Carolina citizens, every time you go out to eat and pay taxes, part of that could be going to help fund these jobs to make sure UNC-CHeats players go to class.
And yet real teachers in public schools can’t get the pay they deserve.
Pathetic.
09/18/2014 at 8:36 PM #56546highstickParticipantBeen here for a long time and don’t pull punches…If you don’t want to listen the Holes being trashed…go F yourself cause they deserve everything they get! And you do too for voting for idiots in North Carolina that perpetuate the process! Wanna fix it? Vote the A-Holes out…doesn’t matter about the Party(which will grossly upset the Yellow Dog D’ and the Yellow Dog R’s…Nominate, and elect people with sense and if they don’t “see the light”, unelect them…

09/19/2014 at 1:19 AM #56562MrPlywoodParticipantSince the two programs are constantly compared, and with one widely perceived to be better in all respects, I have zero issue with calling out the extensive athletic and academic failings of *NX and the attempts to cover up the truth.
State and fans of State have certainly paid the price for much less.
09/19/2014 at 7:06 AM #56566tractor57ParticipantJust think if the interwebs were available during the unpleasantness surrounding the ‘Pack basketball program decades ago.

Job creation for their AFAM graduates.
