I know what sweet memories! It would be nice to experience it again. We came close the year we started 8-0 and ended the year beating fsu and Norte dame to finish 11-3. We have a long way to go and don’t know if we will get there.
11/14/2015 at 6:05 PM #92350choppack1ParticipantI thought the team fought today. I think when he has time – Jacoby is solid – but like 90% of other qbs – does worse after getting hit a few times.
I thought the d had a good gameplan and initially so did the offense. This year’s big bugaboo has been the second half. Like Vatech and Louisville – a decent 2nd half offensively keeps us on the game.
Got 2 more games to do something good. 4-4 at the end of this year would be solid and be a great foundation for next year.
11/14/2015 at 6:26 PM #92351WulfpackParticipant8 plus huh? That would mean a win over the Heels. Not happenin’, not this year. Heads and shoulders better than us. That is clear.
11/14/2015 at 6:38 PM #92352AdventurooParticipantPack1969E,
Remember that night well…..in 1967. Friends of the College had Glenn Yarborough at Reynolds. Everyone (OK more than a few) were carrying “Transistor Radios”. It looked like a convention of Secret Service….as we ALL had to wear ties for those things. Was Married….as you were….
About mid way through the first half of the concert, Glenn Yarborough asked the crowd….”whats the score?” and it was yelled out and he repeated it.
When he and band did intermission, he took someone’s radio and put it on his stool and left his live mike with it. So we listened to the game during his break.
Towards the end of his concert, he did his One BIG HIT….”Baby, the Rain must Fall”. He had asked the crowd, PRIOR to that, what was happening…..State has the ball….and is driving (the Winning TD). Then during his HIT NUMBER, he ad libbed at the end….
Baby, the Rain must Fall….Baby, the Rain must Fall…..and added….
ON HOUSTON…..and the crowd went wild.I have seen MANY concerts over the years and NEVER witnessed a “star” handle a distraction like that. Many would have walked off the stage (as either Dionne Warwick tried to do in that series). He was masterful….
The Student Supply Store sold out of his records on Monday.
And THAT is my 1967 White Shoes story….other than Freddie Combs was seated to my Right for a few classes and we stood up and cheered for him when he would come into class…..talk about a very down to earth and sincere guy being embarrassed too “Death”. He would smile and blush…..and we kept cheering.
What was it the Lone Ranger said….”Return with us to thrilling days of Yesteryear…..”
11/14/2015 at 6:50 PM #92353Heelh8rParticipantSyracuse is gonna be tough. Their record might not show it, but they look good to me.
What a terrible terrible weekend. Cheaters win their division, we lose fb & bb, Louisville wins, absolutely nothing went our way. Luckily, we have one more chance if we can find a way to beat the South Alabama Jaguars. It doesn’t exactly feel like a sure thing.
11/14/2015 at 7:25 PM #92355mak4dpakParticipantI am still not convinced about the tarholes. Wanna see what they do vs. VT, in Blacksburg, and Beamer’s last game. They dominate that game I guess I can say they are legit. But regardless, we need to win out at home. Speaking of the holes, their improvement has come with the hiring of a new DC. Perhaps DD, should relinquish his loyalties, and makes some changes with his assistants.
11/14/2015 at 7:25 PM #92356JohnGalt78ParticipantHorrible sports weekend for Pack fans. Glad the baseball team didn’t play. Geez, we need something good to happen. Keeping it real, sports has been a distraction this weekend….just not a very good one. Go Pack! There’s always tomorrow.
11/14/2015 at 7:29 PM #92357WulfpackParticipantNot a done deal, yet. Pitt’s win over Duke keeps them alive, by a thread. A Pitt loss to Louisville or Miami seals it, or UNC wraps it up with a win against Va Tech or us.
11/14/2015 at 8:59 PM #9236013OTParticipantWe cannot develop a quality QB any more than we can teach somebody how to dunk. Until we get REAL talent at this position, we’ve pretty much reached our ceiling, which is beating only cupcake teams, mediocre ones at that, and beating only the bottom of the barrel ACC teams.
In fact, during our last 2 seasons and this one, all 11 ACC opponent we’ve faced have beaten us at least once. And most of these losses haven’t even been close.
We cannot develop a quality coach, either. A mediocre coach can get by for awhile if he has a Philip Rivers-caliber QB.
But the sad truth is, if you’ve got it, you can’t hide it. We are a mediocre football program and as bad as I want this trend to change, I just don’t see it anytime soon. I hope we don’t have to wait as long as the UVA fans have had to wait if things don’t work out for us.
11/14/2015 at 11:45 PM #92362ryebreadParticipantHmm… The team playing at home is two years removed from a national title and has 4 straight years of top 15 recruiting classes. The team playing on the road has junior and senior classes made up of recruits ranked in the bottom of the ACC. Yet the sky is falling?
I had this one in ink as a loss before the year started. For a quarter it looked like Clemson might beat FSU twice, but Jimbo wisened up, changed QBs, upped the pace, got Cook more involved in the game and that was that.
Do I think this staff is perfect? Nope. I just think what ails us is more than Xs and Os. I also believe that DD will be here 5-6 seasons regardless. We might as well hope for the best.
On to Syracuse. I said after the BC game that Syracuse was must win. I still believe that it is.
11/15/2015 at 6:14 AM #92368WulfpackParticipantWhy is Syracuse a must win? We are going to be relegated to a lower tier bowl regardless. Can finish no higher than fourth in the division no matter how we finish the year. Don’t get the logic.
11/15/2015 at 8:20 AM #92372mak4dpakParticipant8-5 overall, 3-5 ACC in 2014, win out at home and a bowl win 9-4, 4-4 ACC, which is improvement, regardless how small. Our biggest problem with our weekend losses comes from the QB position, and PG with basketball, if they both show up for the entire game, we are looking at wins. Hope they show me more in their next games. Guess one starts tonight vs. S Alabama, and the other next Saturday at home, vs. Syracuse. Sure there may be other issues, but the team leaders have to do their jobs. Coaches are one the sideline, and don’t play.

Not sure why people keep saying this. Its almost like a form of denial to admit that the holes are legit this season and seemed posed to have a top 20ish program under Fedora. Their defense is incredibly improved and their offense is crushing folks. I have to admit I am kindof looking forward to see them against the Tigers. Interesting match up for sure.
11/15/2015 at 12:11 PM #92383choppack1ParticipantMak – IMHO – that’s a sign of the lack of talent around them more than an indictment of their abilities. Brisset and cat are both major conference calibre starters – better than a significant % of those at the same position in the acc. Are there games flawed – yes – but that’s to be expected with college kids who aren’t the clear best in their conference.
Look – we played a decent game vs. FSU – but we don’t have the talent to expect to beat a team as talented as FSU at home unless their coach is really dumb. Unfortunately for us – Jimbo woke up and changed qbs.

Several reasons:
1) Resiliency: A mark of a good program is that they can put a loss behind them, not let a season spiral.2) Momentum: Don’t want to go into a bowl game on a 3 game skid. Sure we’re bowl eligible, but I’d actually like to see us win it.
3) Any shot at beating UNC: I don’t think we’re going to win this one, but I definitely don’t think we win it if we lose to Syracuse.
4) Recruiting: There’s a huge difference in perceived program direction and what it can do for a recruiting class. Football recruiting and basketball recruiting are much different beasts.
5) Continue the trend of beating the teams we’re supposed to beat: That’s the next step for this program. BC, Wake and Syracuse were the three ACC games that we definitely should have won this year. Let’s go get the third one.
11/16/2015 at 5:45 AM #92434WulfpackParticipant^Gotcha. I get it. But the must wins came and went IMHO. Beating Cuse is not going to change the trajectory all that much. Now beating UNC would be a huge lift on many fronts, but that is going to be a very tall order.
11/16/2015 at 1:48 PM #92462tjfoose1Participant^I see it slightly different. While a win vs Syracuse does not change the trajectory, I think a loss does.
Finishing out 1-1 going into a bowl game would mark the end to a disappointing regular season, but it would put the Pack program at just above holding serve with an ever so slight upward curve, IF considering over all program health, recruitment, player development, etc.
Though Syracuse is not a bad team (look beyond the L’s to their performances against LSU, Clemson, and Pitt) it is a ‘must win’ to avoid taking a step backwards. A loss would certainly give legitimate credence to detractors.
But then, I already hold a minority opinion. Though the loss to FSU was disappointing, I see the performance as validation that the program is improving. You gotta look past the trees to see the forest.
Unrelated: Although Cook got the better of him on a crucial play, true freshman LB Nicholson impressed again. We have a potential star in the making. Interested to see what a year in the weight room and a handful of game experience and film equates to next season.
11/16/2015 at 1:55 PM #92464tjfoose1Participant… Plus, as improbable as it appears today, finishing out 3-0 would and 9-3 would be a huge validation stamp for both coaches and program.
Can’t finish out 3-0 without starting rum at 1-0.
Many of the team goals are gone. The game is one of emotion. 3-0 and 9-3 are worthy motivations for the stretch run.

I am no football expert but I think 9-3 would be tough to accomplish given we have lost 4 games already.
11/16/2015 at 3:38 PM #92471tjfoose1ParticipantOops.
3-0 and 9-4.
In my defense, I did write ‘improbable’. 🙂
Forgive the either phone keyboard typo or mental slip. Probably the latter.

No problem. I was just picking
11/16/2015 at 4:50 PM #92481GreywolfParticipantJacoby Brisset was exactly what this young team needed for the first two “real years” of the Dave Doeren era at NC State. He is upbeat, mature, and a very good leader. His “red shirt year” he was a team leader running the scout team. I’m sorry he’s banged up and that we are not having a great senior year for him. IMO he deserves better.
Several people said before this year started that we could be improved and not have as good a record as last year. Looking at our D-line, RBs, and the skill, athleticism and speed being red shirted this could be true even if it’s hard to translate into a numerical value.
Before you go to the bathroom and celebrate how great Carolina’s D is, consider this: NC State is ranked nationally about 20 places higher nationally than the holes and we are higher ranked in rushing defense than the holes. The holes do out rank us in pass defense. Perhaps the holes being so prolific on offense is making the defense look better than it is. Even if they were better than our D, I don’t want Cheesestix on our campus being the poster boy for “We don’t care how we do it, just win, baby.”

I am pretty sure us playing a high school OOC schedule and BC with a walkon as qb skews that a bit. Our dline does look really good at times but the secondary always seems to eff things up at the worst time possible.
11/16/2015 at 6:31 PM #92488WulfpackParticipantGrey, the UNC defense was one of the worst in the nation last year. Almost last among all teams in points against. They are far better this year, and quite opportunistic. We may have the better defense overall, but we haven’t improved at that clip – that’s all Chizik’s influence. And of course, their offense is light years ahead of us right now. It’s a rivalry game, anything can happen. But they have the edge for sure.
11/16/2015 at 9:23 PM #92498TheCOWDOGModeratorWe should all consider an herbal rectal flush going into Syracuse.
Colonics for everyone. My treat. I’m not adminstering them by any means, but …I can set ya up.
