Not enough to warrant a front-page entry, but a couple of articles I found interesting:
There is enough number crunching here to keep any/all geeks happy. With State’s QB situation, there really isn’t any way to predict State’s season, but there is a nugget of SOS that I found interesting: State’s SOS is project to rise 50 spots from #74 in 2015 to #24 in 2016. Of course, we’ll need to check back at the end of the year for a meaningful comparison.
And then from the CO:

This article tries to answer three questions:
1) What’s different on offense?
2) Will the tackling improve?
3) Will every kick be an adventure again?08/01/2016 at 7:34 PM #105243choppack1ParticipantThanks VA Wolf – should be interesting to see how we do defensively. Looking at the 2nd half of the season, you might think we fired the wrong coordinator.
This year should tell us.
08/01/2016 at 8:09 PM #105244TheCOWDOGModeratorThe coordinator that was fired was fired for indiscretions that were beginning to harm instate recruiting.
There…I said it…and no more.
…And no, it was not of the salacious variety.
08/02/2016 at 8:42 AM #105247BJD95KeymasterAnd as good as it was for blog snark…I could live without “every kick an adventure” redux. Please and thank you.

PS for BJD….no mention of kicking game.
08/04/2016 at 3:06 PM #105291GreywolfParticipantLouisville preview of NC State;“Not only does McClendon have to get experience as the full-time starter, but there isn’t really a proven playmaker.”
If Dayes — averaging 6.4 yards per carry — and JaySam aren’t proven playmakers who are? And they ain’t seen Frasier yet.
“The passing game is going to be a question mark in the upcoming season.” I’m reasonably sure if McClendon can’t get it done, we’ll know about it by the L’ville game. Perhaps Ryan Finley who started 3 games for Boise State before he was broke his ankle, or Jacobi Meyer can get it done.
No mention was made of our fumbling the long pass on the 5 yard line or that the 68 yd TD run by their freshman QB was the result of a blotched run blitz. Outside of the one play their QB averaged a little over 2 yards a carry.
I make as many jokes about the kicking game as anybody. Taken as a whole season the kicking game was bad, really bad. But taking an honest look at the second half of the season, while it wasn’t great, it wasn’t the disaster the first half was. We have some competition for the kicker job this year and I’m not worried about it.
Finally, if the homer who wrote that piece wants to give 2 TDs and is willing to put his money where his mouth is, take it. This ain’t Clemson or FSU.
08/04/2016 at 10:07 PM #10529313OTParticipantThe real kicking problem that the Wolfpack is having is that everyone in the ACC is kicking their ass almost every season.

Got up to take a piss I see.
08/10/2016 at 9:05 AM #105348LoCoPackParticipantA friend just sent this article to me about Earl Wolff.

Running Back
7. NC State. Matt Dayes was on-pace for a 1,000-yard campaign before seeing his season cut short due to injury. Johnny Frasier behind him was one of the top running back recruits in the nation before redshirting last season. The potential is there for a big season on the ground in Raleigh.

QB
11. NC State: The Wolfpack brought in Ryan Finley from Boise State, reconnecting new offensive coordinator Eli Drinkwitz with a player he worked with at his previous stop. Finley understands the offense, which could give him a leg up over Jalan McClendon.

SECONDARY
11. NC State: A solid season from the Juston Burris-led secondary last year sets a high bar for this group, but Dravious Wright and Jack Tocho provide a nice start back there.

TE/WR
7. NC State Wolfpack: NC State has dealt with shortcomings at receiver the past few years, and enters this season without Jumichael Ramos (knee), its second-leading receiver in 2015. Redshirt freshman Brian Sessoms also is out. But Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines are special players, headlining a group that needs more out of Bra’Lon Cherry, Maurice Trowell and Stephen Louis.
