12 gauge pump with 18 inch barrel.
09/09/2016 at 8:43 PM #106114AdventurooParticipant.410 Shotgun. They USED to make a combo .22 and .410 (over & under). That works. Howsomever, I have blasted a snake (OK, mistaken identity….it was the common Water Snake, NOT a Cotton Mouth) that was in a creek. I used a 20 Gage (Skeet) with #8’s. Killed quickly….but somehow I blew it up into the air and it had REVERSE momentum.
In other words, it was like a boomerang looping backwards and it landed right on top of me. Scared the feces out of me. I collected the head and had it identified by a serpatologist from NCSU.
I have also used a Ruger Super Black Hawk with custom (#9 I think) snake loads. They worked on some big Cotton Mouths, but I had some 240 Gr loads as a reserve. We were putting up deer stands in a Moore County swamp and the leader of our pack walked up on 6 of them sunning. He yelled back…..Got your snake gun? I said yes and he then added….Nevermind….you can NOT kill them all. I did…..
A Ruger MK (whatever series) with Thumb Grip and bull Barrel and 22 LR HP works well. I killed some CM’s in a North Hampton county swamp. They were hanging from the trees and their bodies were about 4″ (measured). SPOOKY….
BUT, if you are in an area where taking out a snake would cause a ruckus, may I suggest the ultimate snake dispatcher……a LONG handled garden hoe. When I see my wife running towards me carrying a hoe, I know that it is NOT time to weed the corn (if we still had a garden). That works well….

Sorry, didn’t respond to this part before. Ammo in general has become a huge pain in my ass. Regardless of the gun or the caliber. I’ve got some stockpiled, even for weapons I don’t necessarily own yet.
But you’re totally correct on all points there.

That’s what I’ve got. Remington 870, and I’ve got the longer 21″ or 22″ barrel just in case I want it for something useful.
09/10/2016 at 11:11 AM #106126WufpackerParticipantBoth of my “go to” shotguns are Mossberg. Both 18″ currently, but have the longer barrels (and the rifle stocks) for both.
Also have a traditional double barrel that belonged to my racialist granddad, but I’ve never fired it. Haven’t even ever loaded that one.
09/12/2016 at 4:02 PM #106508Fastback68ParticipantSpent 4 days bird hunting out east last week. I got a remington 1100 at the age of 13 and used it for 27 years. Upgraded to a camo 28 inch barrel super black eagle 2 after the 1100 stock split. Less recoil, handles dirt better, after market choke tubes extend turkey loads to 55 yards, shoots steel, which I hate, much better, no barrel shine to spook game and not one jam to date. Hit deer #4 in five years thursday morning, my suv loves the contact. Picked some cotton plants that haven’t popped yet. If you haven’t sat in a drainage ditch in a pre-sunrise cut corn field hunting gray jets, then you haven’t truly lived. Listened to the entire game driving home which detracted from an otherwise great day. My son hit me with “people out east sure are a lot nicer than back home”. I couldn’t disagree on that.
Thanks for the Kubota info WolftownVa81. I guess I need to start with a concrete pad and a butler building first. Any idea on the cost of a 4 bay building?
09/12/2016 at 5:25 PM #106510GowolvesParticipantGot this Beretta Silver Pigeon about two years ago. Love to shoot it. Got a really good deal on it used.
09/12/2016 at 5:45 PM #106511Fastback68Participant^Tried to buy one of those last year with an all black receiver but the guy at CSArms said he couldn’t get it in time for my son’s b-day. I’ve shot trap with silver pigeon rentals. It’s a great over/under.

Thanks09/28/2016 at 12:50 PM #106119YogiNCParticipantI bought my wife a compact 410 by mossberg just for that purpose and she can blow ’em away. She calls it her snake charmer. She can pump out 4 rounds in a hurry. It’s a sweet little gun.
I had a Browning sweet 16 semi auto when I was a teenager. Should have never sold it. Browning has come out with a new and improved version of it and I want one bad.
Wuf, the concealed carry for the DE was a total joke. You’d have to have some mighty big britches to hide that thing. But target practice with that IS mighty expensive. My cousin went through 200 bucks worth when he first bought his. That’s way above my shooting budget.
3 years ago when ammo went through the roof I started stockpiling too. Now that it’s dropped back some I’m not quite as aggressive with it but I’m still putting it away “in case”
