11/01/2015 at 9:11 AM #91289StateFansKeymasterDuke did get hosed on the last play…
… But Miami got hosed on the last drive and Duke would’ve never been ahead if the officials hadn’t royally screwed up that drive with 3 or 4 or even 5 penalties on the Hurricanes.
Hell…I don’t even think Duke actually scored a touchdown with six seconds left. That guy wasn’t in And they didn’t have adequate replay angles to even judge the play correctly. They had no more timeouts. The game would’ve ended with Miami ahead of the officials hadn’t incorrectly given Duke a touchdown.
11/01/2015 at 9:48 AM #91292PrimewolfParticipantThe parts of the game I saw seemed to indicate Duke was the ACC ref favorite.
What was wrong with the last play? ThAt last block was on the shoulder from my perspective.
11/01/2015 at 9:54 AM #91293WulfpackParticipantShould not have been reviewable. And, knee was down.
11/01/2015 at 10:20 AM #91296WulfpackParticipantHere’s a good rundown of why the score should not have counted:
11/01/2015 at 11:58 AM #9130213OTParticipantWhat I still can’t understand about college football replay review is that some things can be changed and others can’t, even when you have the undeniable evidence in front of you on video. Either do all of it or none of it. I’ve had it up to here with reviews; just call the damned play on the field and get on with it. The delays are taking the fun out of the game for the fans, and many times they can’t get it right on the replay review anyway. We’re getting to the point that we don’t need refs anymore.
I agree with StateFans’ assessment that Duke never scored the go-ahead TD with 6 seconds remaining. From every angle I saw, clearly the ball never touched the plane of the end zone. I don’t know if the final play was legit or not, but to me it was clearer that a TD was scored then than on Duke’s final drive.
11/01/2015 at 1:04 PM #91309Alpha WolfKeymasterI’m still trying to figure out how State fans were dragged into Joe Ovies’s “narrative.” SMH.

http://www.wralsportsfan.com/1505142011/01/2015 at 1:15 PM #91311WulfpackParticipantA comedy of errors:
The four-prong list of errors that enunciates what went wrong in the final play of the game is as follows:
1) “The replay official erred in not overturning the ruling on the field that the Miami player had released the ball prior to his knee being down. If called, this would have ended the game.”
2) “The on-field officials erred by failing to penalize Miami for an illegal block in the back at the Miami 16-yard line. If called, the ball would have been placed at the Miami 8-yard line and the game would have been extended for an untimed down.”
3) “A block in the back foul was called at the Duke 26-yard line. After the officials conferred, which is appropriate, they correctly determined that the block was from the side, which resulted in the flag being picked up. The replay official was not involved in the decision to pick up the flag; however, the referee did not effectively manage communication and properly explain why the flag was picked up.”
4) “In addition, the on-field crew failed to penalize a Miami player for leaving the bench area and entering the field prior to the end of the play. This foul would not have negated the touchdown because it would have been enforced as a dead ball foul.”
11/01/2015 at 1:24 PM #91313Alpha WolfKeymasterThose officials deserved suspension long before the last kickoff left the tee. I watched almost all of the game (flipping over to the ND-Temple tilt once in a while) and they were a flag-happy bunch that were both missing calls and making questionable ones.
Truth is, the ACC’s football officiating has been getting worse and worse with each successive year. They reached a new low point in Durham last night, but it seems like they’ll exceed that soon enough…they always seem to.
11/01/2015 at 2:30 PM #91318AdventurooParticipantThe WRAL article sort of restates this….
FWIW…….There were at least 3 flags on Duke’s last drive. If it was on the CF JumboTron, it would look like an airport runway. The Zeb’s literally GAVE Duke the last TD….it was NOT earned.
Box Score stats….
Miami 23 FLAGS and 194 Yards
Duke 5 FLAGS and 41 Yards.
OUCH. It seems rather apropos that Miami HAS the W. Duke should have nailed down the game. They were obviously focused on UNC…..rather than the “U”.
Really feel sorry for Cutt, BUT, he did let the game get away. I tuned in around Q2 and it was already UGLY.
BUT, good old Johnny and Johnny of ACC fame have a problem…..and it is in Durham and NOT Houston. They have a Multi-Million Dollar Video (obviously Audio also) War Room. They monitor every NanoSecond of each contest. They have directly Video feeds from the Stadium Replay Booths…..as well as being in contact (Communication) with the Replay folks. This is also Clougherty’s LAST year as Official Supervisor….what A way to end a career….but there’s more FB and BB to be played….so his swan song may have more Memoriable Moments….
The crew was a mix of Jim Knight (google him if you do NOT know WHO he is…and take points off your Sports Trivia IQ) and Ron Cherry (is Ron reffing this year….there is a Silver Alert out for him) and Karl Hess.
BTW….the pollsters DROPPED Dukie without the benefit of the doubt. UNC entered the polls at #21….
Should be an interesting match-up next weekend. BUT two TOP 25 Teams will NOT be playing….(both were in 1939). SO….I’ll put my $$ on Duke….but nothing would surprise me…..

Beat UNC and they are back in, and control their destiny in the Coastal.

11/01/2015 at 7:42 PM #91332mak4dpakParticipantI don’t believe the holes are as good as their record. Should pan out the next few games. I see some losses, and again the coastal division is weak.
11/01/2015 at 7:45 PM #91333john of spartaParticipantto quote The Big Tuna: you are what your record says you are.
11/01/2015 at 7:58 PM #91334WulfpackParticipantDuke is going to give UNC all they can handle, and more. Cut will galvanize his bunch with an us against the world mentality. With that said, UNC is a much better team than last year’s, especially on D (thanks to Chizik). It will be a fun game.
But I’ll be watching against those pesky Eagles.
11/02/2015 at 5:58 AM #91339JohnGalt78Participant^^^^Aplha, Ovies is a commission-based troll. I hate mentioning this because in doing so, he makes a nickel.
11/02/2015 at 7:59 AM #91341BassPackerParticipantCan Dook appeal the loss? If the ACC agrees the officials made a mistake in allowing the play to stand, then why is not the one play void as would be the W by the U?
11/02/2015 at 8:25 AM #91342redisgoodParticipantI’m still trying to figure out how State fans were dragged into Joe Ovies’s “narrative.” SMH.
Apart from being a pathetic State baiting troll, he knows nothing about sports. He knows music, he knows video games, but he knows absolutely zero about sports. I’d love to be able to listen to a local sports radio talk show, but as long as he’s a part of it, I just can’t do it.
11/02/2015 at 9:25 AM #91344JohnGalt78Participant^ Spot on. Not only does he lack of sports intelligence, he’s extremely condescending and smug about his great wisdom in all areas sport. Add his easily offended Politically Correct sidekick, and you’ve got 3 hours of dead air.
11/02/2015 at 9:28 AM #91345WolfanaticParticipantWufpack said: It was a truly amazing finish, though Duke got HOSED!
Duke wasn’t the only one that got hosed. Those holding an Under ticket (51.5) also took it deep. Final 30-27
11/02/2015 at 11:29 AM #91350Alpha WolfKeymasterI think that sports talk radio is extremely condescending to their audience as a general rule.
That’s why when college seasons starts, I generally avoid the local variety and listen to Sirius-XM College Sports Radio. Granted, it is not with the ACC focus that some may prefer, but there are ex-head coaches and guys like Mark Packer on the air there.
11/02/2015 at 3:07 PM #91362tjfoose1ParticipantOvies is a professional troll, literally. That’s his role on the show, whether by design or evolution. He’s the sole reason I stopped listening.
