Dave Doeren will have a cooler seat and some breathing room in 2015, after beating Carolina and finishing his second regular season 7-5. There were fr

11/29/2014 at 10:04 PM #63463Alpha WolfKeymasterCowdog again with hammer, nail and head. Doeren has shown a lot of progress so far this year, his players have improved and the team has been a threat in all but a couple of games where they were severely outmatched.
11/29/2014 at 10:35 PM #63468NCSU84ParticipantGreat comments by DD. I hope he can accomplish his goal and do what no one since Sheridan has been able to do – establish a winning program. Only time will tell, but let’s enjoy this win for now. Go Pack!
11/29/2014 at 10:51 PM #63469MikeParticipantI have stated (pun intended) for some time I see progress being made. Those who do not like DD – sorry but he has been good for us. TOB did us no favors, but the team is making progress. Now, with his spunk, I like the choice even more.
What sticks out to me is after last years game and the fiasco on midfield afterwards, DD said “our guys will remember this for 364 days” and sure enough they did. DD gets the rivalry, and frankly THAT is a guy I want coaching our team.
Yes W’s and L’s are important, but throw them out the window right now. We got blown out at Klempsun and GT, but all the other L’s were winnable games. That is progress, and I even give a pass on GT because we were in that game except for 3 plays in the 2nd Q which took the wind out of us.
DD, thanks for standing up for our team and speaking the truth and leading our young men.
11/29/2014 at 10:56 PM #63470Alpha WolfKeymasterDave Doeren is an upper midwesterner, and being married to one, I know from her and her family that there is a low amount of tolerance for bullshit in that group collectively. It’s part of what makes them so great — they’re easy to get along with, but you better bring the real deal or you’ll be called out in short order.
Doeren is calling it like he sees it here, and if the truth hurts, Tarheels, it is a truth you created for yourself but are too stupid to believe even though it is right in front of everyone’s eyes.

11/30/2014 at 8:07 AM #63477Avid109ParticipantCoach Doeren is obviously looking at the big picture and doing what it takes to build long-term success. I like his no-BS attitude.

“This is a blue collar school, this is a work ethic hands in the dirt school. It is an agricultural school, it is textile school, it is an engineering school founded by tough people, and that is what this football team will be and that is what we were today…..” DD
11/30/2014 at 11:00 AM #63482BJD95KeymasterI may do a longer form article on Monday, but the “blue collar” theme is marketing genius. As is waiting until he would have maximum credibility to unleash it.
11/30/2014 at 3:21 PM #63533MrPlywoodParticipantPlease do BJD. And note that the uNX faithful are complaining that State “played dirty” and aimed to take out Hole players, even to the point of BountyGate on Quise and Switz. They seem to confuse tough play with dirty play. At least the Holes know what to expect from now on.
11/30/2014 at 3:36 PM #63536ancsu87ParticipantWhat would you expect from that university and fan base? I would not be surprised to see the ACC under Swafford try to address “taming down” tough football play via the refs next year now that DD let his plan out.
11/30/2014 at 5:06 PM #63548tractor57ParticipantTo me Coach D struck the right balance between being gracious to the loser and being an advocate for the Wolfpack program. Yes he was partisan (as I think he should be), combative about winning (and within the rules) with some great props to our fanbase.
The whining about dirty play reminds me on one Greg Little the scum he is. Not that was dirty play.
This might have been a program defining win – that we will know in a few years. What I do know is Coach D knows exactly how to speak to our fanbase.

This is one you want to frame and put on the wall behind your desk. Nothing in the post game comments made me as happy as this. My son and I were having this discussion on Friday. He was talking about embracing the urban nature of U of H and I was telling him how I loved the fact that State was an Ag and Engineering school. Every university has roots that reveal its mission and that form its character. The fact that DD gets who we are and embraces it publicly is a nice bonus. The fact that he was able to get this team to this point is a very encouraging sign.
If he had only said “Pulp & Paper” instead of Textiles it would have been perfect.
