Dies in Kinston. Cause unknown.
He is amphibious even in death.
Definitely sad news.
He was incredibly talented and a fun college player to watch…Part of basketball teams that just overflowed with personality.
Rest in peace original Shack.
So maybe some of the old timers remember this….But there were a few games where Shackleford’s and Chucky’s jerseys looked like dresses.
They asked Coach V about this and he said that they never tucked their shirts in and it annoyed him. So V figured he would get the largest one they had and then they’d tuck it in…But like the prankster / carefree guys they were – they didn’t keep em tucked in and it looked pretty hilarious.
Dying in Kinston > living in Durham
McCallum
FWIW Durham has changed a lot and for the better in the last few years, esp. downtown and west a few miles…
Dying anywhere at age 50 sucks. Period.
Durham is Durham is Durham, I don’t give a damn how many hipster joints that serve a godless brunch on Sunday pop up.
You can’t polish a turd.
McCallum
so if I’m reading correctly….
D’umb is D’umb is D’umb.

Sometime in the next few days…
there will be a story about the funny enigma…
Dying in Kinston > living in Durham
McCallum
The Michael Bolton clone cracks [un]wise at the expense of a deceased Wolfpacker, just so he can hear himself laugh.
I enjoyed watching Shack play. RIP.
just so he can hear himself laugh
How’s that old saying go – “Douchebags gonna douche”.
It’s an urban expression. May have originated in Durham.
RIP to the original Shack.
Foul Play ruled out by Kinston Police…
I was in school when he played and went to every game I could. His laugh and good humor were infectious, and he was more of a quiet leader, pushing the younger guys, than he was ever given credit. V joked and “exaggerated” about them all, but Shack was the one who could never shed the image. He had a tough life, made some bad choices, and died much too young.
RIP.
Confirmation..
and Peace…
May we remember him fondly and his family kindly….
