I turned 44 today and that was the best gift. A win on the road against a top ten team.
Excellent!
02/14/2015 at 7:43 PM #74407xphoenix87ModeratorThat’s two great defensive efforts in a row. If we keep that up, we can hang with anyone.
Had to listen to most of the game before catching the last 10 minutes on TV, so more in-depth thoughts will have to wait till I catch the replay. Just a couple things though.
– The ascension of Cat Barber continues. His decision making and aggressiveness are just at a totally different level than they were early in the season, and he’s maintained his defensive effort as well. He had a play late in the second half that was just awesome, and one he never would’ve made earlier in the season. He got a big switched onto him and attacked, got denied, patiently brought it back out, attacked again on the baseline, drew help, and made a beautiful pass to Anya in the middle of the paint. Just a gorgeous play where he didn’t rush anything and made all the right decisions. If he works hard in the offseason at adding some muscle and improving his finishing around the rim, he has a chance to be crazy good.
– The work by Beejay (as well as the back line help rotations) against the pick and roll was outstanding today. Beejay has often struggled this season when put in P&Rs, getting lost in between showing and getting back to his man (witness the crucial and-1 play down the stretch of the Virginia game). He was great today, repeatedly shutting things down and not letting his guy (often Harrell) get a free run to the rim.
02/14/2015 at 7:43 PM #744081.21 JigawattsKeymasterfrom E$pin….
….(today’s win)… comes on the road. And it’s only the 3rd time since the turn of the century ( jiggs… that’s 2000 not 1900… )that the Wolfpack have picked up a road win vs an AP Top 10 squad. The other two instances came in the 2001-02 season under coach [HWNSNBM].
NC State Road Wins vs AP Top 10 – Last 15 Seasons
Opponent Score
Today 9 Louisville 74-65
2001-02 4 Virginia 81-74
2001-02 9 Syracuse 82-68So the comparisons are against HWSNBN and Lowe, who is arguably the worst coach ever in the history of sports?
Don’t think I’m poo-poo’ing the win. I’m not. I’m happy they won, it beats losing. Lets enjoy it but don’t read more into it than what it is. Its an upset road win against a top notch team by a team that’s struggling to get back to .500 in the conference.

Happy Birthday … a nice gift indeed.
redcanine gets to have victory sex though.
02/14/2015 at 7:49 PM #74410mak4dpakParticipantCoach isn’t failing anything. His players have to man up and do what they are coached to do. They are the ones on the court. And alot of that is due to immaturity, because we are, as every announcer on TV says, a young team. But regardless, it is still a quality win, over a top 10 team on their court.
02/14/2015 at 7:50 PM #74411TheCOWDOGModeratorHappy Birthday, Gowolves.

I’m thinking I got a shot. Just had champagne and streak victory dinner, and hey, it is Valentine’s Day.
02/14/2015 at 8:07 PM #74418bill.onthebeachParticipantLouisville only scored eight baskets from the floor in the second half…
and did not score two in a row without us scoring in between.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!02/14/2015 at 8:09 PM #74419SmaptyWolfParticipantYea, Gott is right on regarding the fan hate. He’s a WAY better coach than some of you deserve, honestly. Some facts that are easy to forget:
1) This was supposed to be a “rebuilding year” loaded with underclassmen.
2) We have the 6th hardest schedule in the COUNTRY!
3) We are now consistently in nail biters or even beating the best teams in the country.I totally get being a State fan desperate for a Final Four team yesterday, but some of you need to consider the possibility that your expectations are insane. This coach and this team deserve way more than fair weather support.
02/14/2015 at 8:10 PM #74420Heelh8rParticipantThis will be the toughest ACC tournament in years for everybody…
We may be playing as well as anyone. For sure, it feels like we can win every game we play. Just got to close the deal like we did today.
02/14/2015 at 8:11 PM #74421tjfoose1ParticipantThe Pack will be favored at home next week against VT. Take out a mortgage and bet on the Hokies to win outright.
Actually… That would be like a dagger to the heart. Too quick and painless. This is all about dragging it out for a long painful exasperating death. Gotta keep the hope alive to maximize the tease and pain.
But wait. There’s still u*nc and ‘cuse to follow, along with the ACC Tourney. With today’s win, this will be just enough. So yes, bank it. Bet the house on a VT victory.

Haha for sure.

and did not score two in a row without us scoring in between.Quite a statement and performance. Louisville is no doubt offensively challenged this season, but that does not discredit what State was able to do today. Blackshear was held to practically nothing in the 2nd half, and they never let Rozier or Harrell get going. Their guard, Jones, had a nice game and was a pest – but State did what they needed to do. And how much difference does rebounding make? Holy cow.
02/14/2015 at 8:19 PM #74423Heelh8rParticipantIf I were to meet meet Coach Gottfried today, the only thing I would be able to say is “Thank you.” Thank you for giving us a team that is fun to follow, for getting us out of the cellar, for getting us back in the dance, for getting us back into the national conversation, for giving us a program we can be proud of, and for giving us a feeling like we have a chance to win every game we play. Don’t take it for granted, we didn’t have any of those things for a long while.
02/14/2015 at 8:22 PM #74424TheCOWDOGModerator‘foose?
You said it…not me.I never…ever bet with friends.
I’d give the probable 8 in a heartbeat, just the same.
02/14/2015 at 8:31 PM #74425bill.onthebeachParticipantPup…
them’s the numbers…. eight…
I was ‘expecting’ Louisville to make a serious run in the second half…
I kept waiting and waiting and it never happened….But then “expectations” and “18-19-20 year old kids” can lead one to be “delusional” can’t it ?
#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!02/14/2015 at 8:34 PM #74426GowolvesParticipantThanks for the BD wishes. Tough being a Pack fan but it’s worth it on days like today.
02/14/2015 at 8:35 PM #74427MrPlywoodParticipantOne aspect I really liked is that once the Pack beat the press, they continued to attack when the opportunity presented itself, and made L’ville pay quite a few times. In previous games they’d get across half court and then take a break to reset, which allowed the opponent to reset as well.
02/14/2015 at 8:37 PM #74428bill.onthebeachParticipantFinal thoughts….
Patino did not have a good game today. He looked pale, tired and sick… and like he’d lost 15 pounds…
… and never was in position to make a strong move from the bench …GOTT on the other hand was on his toes, so to speak, the entire game…
The quick TO with nine to go… was brilliant or instinctively lucky, either way, it was called at exactly the right time. Not all that FB and Tweeter talk was directly at his kids… you know…
I’m sure he heard enough just like some of the rest of us.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!02/14/2015 at 8:38 PM #74429Heelh8rParticipantPup…I got a lot of respect for your leadership and always enjoy your posts, but I’m superstitious at the same time. I’m thinking we got to go with BJD at the controls and definitely stick with the black jerseys and ride this wave out…
02/14/2015 at 8:38 PM #74430VaWolf82KeymasterTurner took unrushed shots.
The Martins behaved themselves.My keys.
Jigs…I turned 61 yesterday. WTF happened to you, that has turned you in to such a crochety old f#ck?
I love engineers. I love pigs.
If I get down in the mud and argue with either of them…pigs and engineers…I always come to the conclusion that Engineers like it.
Just remember this. It ain’t negative if it’s the truth.
CD goes 4 for 4. That’s a good day by any standard.
Though I might have to add “handled the press” to the keys of the game.
02/14/2015 at 8:41 PM #74431RickKeymasterWho decided this was a rebuilding year?
Year for for a new coach should be improving not rebuilding.02/14/2015 at 8:43 PM #74432wufpup76KeymasterPup…I got a lot of respect for your leadership and always enjoy your posts, but I’m superstitious at the same time. ^Haha, I appreciate it – but you don’t have to butter me up! I wants the wins baby! Nobody gives a damn about my shitty commentary anyway 🙂
If Commrade95 is up for it, it’s all his.
02/14/2015 at 9:10 PM #74433tjfoose1ParticipantCD, I’m working the reverse, double negative, Chewbacca defense mojo. It’s worked in the past. Don’t distract my focus.
