Perhaps the first true modern “sports icon” in every since of the word. Arnold Palmer evidently passed away today. I understand he was no choir boy earlier in his life (like most of us) but he had a way with people and a warmth to him that shone through especially in his later days.
He seems like some to me like someone who would have done great if he ran a hot dog stand.
On a personal level, his arc and the photos are a reminder of what awaits most of us males if we are lucky.
as Lee Trevino said: %5 of all PGA should go to Palmer.
Sorry to hear this.
Some of my professional livelihood came from a successful corporate affiliation with the Arnold Palmer brand. He was as great a man as golfer.
No greater ambassador for the game of golf. A class act who never passed up a chance to sign autographs or smile for a picture. My mother had a life-long crush on him, and my dad didn’t mind a bit !
Rest easy, Arnie – you’ve earned it…
Dan Jenkins’s stories never get old…

Palmer was “every man’s golfer”… He was the face, name and person who took golf out of the Country Club and shared it with the common man…
‘of course CBS/NBC/ABC did their part too…. albeit in black and white…
Trevino was right….
RIP
