If the ACC really wants to claim the “Best college basketball in the country†title, they have to fix their officiating. I won’t even go into so
[See the full post at: ACC officials embarrass league, spark (Jamie) ‘Luckie’ comeback]02/08/2009 at 4:23 PM #35219Chaos & DisorderMemberSimply put, this is the worst officiating job I have ever seen, and I am by no means exaggerating. Suspensions are warranted here. With that said, we had to keep our composure and fight through it, and we didn’t.
02/08/2009 at 4:25 PM #35220McLovinMemberI don’t see why whenever I’m about to say something the comments get closed
Anyways I was going to say this on the last post…
Pack Leader
I made a comment about Lowe’s strange (to say the least) subbing patterns.
Javi and CJ haven’t played in like 3 games yet they play most of this game.
Johnny had a good game last game but his warmups stay on.
Tracy was just yanked out of the game even though the announcers praised his play the entire first half.
Why did Mays play little and Degand not even get minutes?
I don’t even know if you can call them “patterns”
02/08/2009 at 4:25 PM #35221StateFansKeymasterHow can you ‘fight through it’ when Ben McCauley stands straight up on defense and is bulldozed down only to be called for a foul that gives the Hokies a key three point play to tie the game?
What are the players supposed to do? Run off the court so that they won’t give the other team fabricated three point plays?
Is that ‘fighting’ through it?
02/08/2009 at 4:25 PM #35222hoopMemberYou missed several phantom calls in your post. One that stands out to me is when Horner was run over and called for a block. He had had that spot for at least a full second.
Another is that after the VT player (don’t remember which) blocked a Wolfpack shot, he double dribbled in front of the whole world.
The officiating in this game was beyond incompetent.
02/08/2009 at 4:28 PM #35223RickKeymasterTHe officiating was almost as bad as our substitutions patterns.
02/08/2009 at 4:28 PM #35224BJD95KeymasterBad officiating doesn’t forgive Sid for his rank mismanagement of the last minutes of the game. Inexcusable stuff.
This is the ACC. Calling the ref a “fucking asshole” may result in a T, but gets you calls for the rest of the game. Kudos to Seth for understanding that and behaving accordingly.
I really hate this team. Get ready for a horrible offseason once we finish playing out the string on another wasted year on the court.
02/08/2009 at 4:28 PM #35225WulfpackParticipantI’ll say it again. When you are up 18 points in the second half, there is ZERO excuse for losing. The officiating was clearly bad. I am not debating that. But we put ourselves in the position to lose the game because we failed to execute on offense. That was it.
02/08/2009 at 4:32 PM #35226BJD95KeymasterThe refs sucked, we choked, and Sidney Lowe is a lousy basketball coach. All three of those things can be – and are – true at the same time.
02/08/2009 at 4:32 PM #35227wufpup76KeymasterI tend to agree with this post … We should have put them away, but there’s no denying the Hokies had a ton of help in the second half
One play that sticks out to me is directly after the intentional foul bullshit and the 3 pointer by Thorns (or whoever) and then Delaney … We’re still up 10, Allen hacks Horner’s arm off and gets a dunk … That was really Allen’s 10th foul, but no call … Capel, in exasperation, screams “That’s A FOUL! … (giggle)” when seeing the replay … Nope, instead it contributes
Then Allen fouls out in OT on a hedgeplay after being allowed to play WWE for the entire 2nd half
Simply pathetic and miserable day
02/08/2009 at 4:34 PM #35228wufpup76KeymasterHere are Sidney’s comments from the postgame:
Postgame comments:
Tony: Gutwrenching loss?
SL: Yes, guys played hard … very frustrating
Tony: What happened to offense in 2nd half?
SL: We didn’t respond/read … Officials let ’em play, which is fine … We lost our composure after a big play
Tony: Intentional foul called – what did the refs say?
SL: We were told “Excessive contact.” (Priceless. Surreal.)
Tony: Got the ball to Ben on last play, what happened?
SL: They got 3 guys on him, blah blah blah
Tony: Was McCauley great today?
SL: Oh yeah.
Overtime – what do you tell the team on the way into OT?
I told them we’ve done it before. Let’s establish defensively … blah blah
WHATEVER … A LOSS TODAY WAS COMPLETE AND UTTER BULLSHIT
Gary Hahn now even b*tching about the refs – especially on the last play …. Then says, Pack makes free throws, they probably win
02/08/2009 at 4:34 PM #35229john of spartaParticipantjust hit one of four foul shots
and all this goes away.at Duke against Miami, the refs
had to stop play at least 4 times
for timing issues..giving Miami
more time for a comeback, but Duke
wins, so the talk is about next game.score more points. period.
02/08/2009 at 4:35 PM #35230GAWolfKeymasterDon’t forget Ben getting raped on our last possession in regulation where there was a no call.
The Refs were terrible in this game on both sides. Terrible. Greenburg’s Tech was completely understandable.
02/08/2009 at 4:35 PM #35231NoahParticipantFrom the previous thread, someone asked “What do you do?”
BURY “Sid.” I mean, bury him. Immediately give releases to the kids he recruited. Apologize to the fans for hiring him in the first place. Fire all of the coaches. Fire everyone associated with him. Burn some sage when he’s gone.
Put together a reasonable financial package and then conduct a professional search. DO NOT go and hide up in your lake house under the table all day. (this is what happened last time.)
There is no reason why such a search would have to end up with Steve Lavin or some scrub assistant from the NBA who STILL thinks that if you call a TO, you get the ball at halfcourt.
And, “Well except Noah, when you’ve got such a sweet set up in Mom’s basement with a stack of vinyl and pictures of Natale Portman than why start going out and meet the world toady.”
I had a very nice walk in the park with my dog. Took my iPod and listened to some old stuff I haven’t heard in awhile. John Mayall and a Duke Ellington show from Stockholm in 1965. Far more enjoyable day than you kooks who actually watch “Sid” wave his hands.
02/08/2009 at 4:36 PM #35232wbnationMemberIs this really a thread on officiating? Really? The officials caused this team to lose an 18 point lead? Who was to blame for the 19 point lead lost against Miami? The officiating was horrible. Its the ACC, its always horrible. But trying to look at outside forces for the lose of this and other leads is just assinine. This team is full of mental midgets and thats all. End of story. The last five minutes of regulation if you go back and look is made up of lazy, stupid turnovers not bad calls. I hate this team. Passionately.
02/08/2009 at 4:36 PM #35233wufpup76KeymasterGreenburg after the game:
“One of the refs comes up to me with about 3 min. to play and says “This is a hell of a game!” … “I say, “Maybe for you guys.” … “Not sure how much fun this was for me and Sidney.”
Whatever Greenburg, your asshattery helped get you the win today … Now you can finally scream out “This is for HWSNBN, b*tches!” … I know you’ve been waiting on that one for a while … a**hole
02/08/2009 at 4:37 PM #35234inhoc…Participantthis is a response to a comment on the previous thread:
afterglow, i think you’re a bit delusional. i still would have felt horrible with a 1 point win when we were up by 18 at one point. an over time victory would have been unacceptable. this program wreaks of idiocy.
if we would have been able to 1/2 way manage this game and get out with an 8 or so point victory, then yes i think we would be impressed with lowes (lack of) ability. he cant coach in the ACC, and its nothing to do with talent.
all you people who justify this atrocity are pathetic. judging someone who wants better leadership in this program is utterly ignorant. this isn’t about swinging back and forth and being fair weather….
02/08/2009 at 4:41 PM #35235NoahParticipantIs this really a thread on officiating? Really? The officials caused this team to lose an 18 point lead? Who was to blame for the 19 point lead lost against Miami?
It was the N&O and the UNC BOGs, I tell ya!
02/08/2009 at 4:42 PM #35236wufpup76Keymaster“THe officiating was almost as bad as our substitutions patterns.”
Agree. Why we played Williams over Smith in the 2nd and in OT is beyond me … I understand splitting time, but the entire time? Smith gets no minutes down the stretch?
Thomas 0 minutes … Fergs 0 minutes
Javi starts and all of a sudden we’re back up to 20 turnovers after being around 10 against Miami and whoever else we lost to before that
Simply not understanding
02/08/2009 at 4:45 PM #35237GreywolfParticipantDegands’s knee is sore again. Smith has a sore knee or ankle. Thomas’s knee has been swelling at practice. It may not have been’s Sid’s call to risk their careers and health by playing them. Remember the Pizza bowl? Wilson was held out due to doctors orders, not Wilson’s or O’Brien’s ideas.
I thought we played surprisingly well on VT’s home court. State was an underdog and gave the Hokies all they wanted and then some. At least we didn’t take it up the ass like Wake and Dook did this week.
Sid got beat by injuries, horrible refereeing and missed free throws at the end. If you have need to blame in on somebody, blame it on the AD. One more thing on LF won’t make any difference.
There are no “easy” games in the ACC even when the rest of the league plays plays us. The loss is disappointing for sure, but hardly a sign that we are a “dog’s dinner” for the rest of the year.
For those who want to quit, there are plenty of other games to watch on the tube. Removing the negative Karma can only help.
02/08/2009 at 4:47 PM #35238WulfpackParticipantLet’s just let the excuses for Sid keep on coming. Maybe in another 6 years he’ll actually learn how to coach. Hell it took him what, 20 years to get a college degree? Maybe he’s just a slow learner. But that’s ok, we like those types in Raleigh. We welcome those folks with open arms and there will always be a place for them in our family.
Sid’s managemnt of the roster, as well as the game today in the 2nd half, was just painful and is why he doesn’t have anything to say on the radio. He knows it. Greenburg abused him today for plain viewing.
02/08/2009 at 4:47 PM #35239whitefangMemberI am with ya Noah. I spent the afternoon fixing my grill, then took my motorcycle for a long ride through the country in short sleeves. What a great day. I sure as hell would not ruin a good weekend watching this team and their over his head so called coach.
02/08/2009 at 4:49 PM #35240ktohMemberRefs did suck but you were up by 18 with 12 minutes left. And in post game he actually blamed ben???????
02/08/2009 at 4:54 PM #35241RickKeymaster“I really hate this team. Get ready for a horrible offseason once we finish playing out the string on another wasted year on the court”
You seem to be implying something bad is going to happen. You want to share?
BTW instead of watching the game I went to the park with my 3 adn 5 yos. We ate a picnic lunch and my wife laid on a blanket while we watched them play on the playground. We then came home and they rode their big wheel and green machine and jumped on the trampoline. I wandered in and turned on the TV with 4 minutes left.
I had a pretty good day over all. If you expect us to lose it does not matter that much.
02/08/2009 at 4:54 PM #35242packnwilmMemberLeft the house and took the dog for a walk while we were up 16 in the 2nd half. Just got back and am not surprised at all. My girlfriend is just glad we werent here to watch so I wouldnt rock back and forth while biting all my nails down to the nub. The walk was awesome. It is gorgeous in downtown Wilm today. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG SEAN MILLERS CONTRACT HAS LEFT?
