At this point… I don’t see how UVA loses this game. But we shall see.
03/16/2014 at 1:34 PM #46866WulfpackParticipantI hope anyone that thinks defense can’t be taught is watching this. A clinic. A rockstar in the making.
03/16/2014 at 1:51 PM #46869pakfanistanParticipantTech on K in the championship game…

I have never seen anyone make the claim that you cannot teach defense. Has someone?

#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!03/16/2014 at 1:57 PM #46875WulfpackParticipantYea, it’s been said on here by some a few times.
03/16/2014 at 1:59 PM #46876pakfanistanParticipantI’m still looking for the people who said we have to play perfectly or we can’t complain about a loss.
03/16/2014 at 2:09 PM #46879MPParticipantYou’re right, their defense is outstanding. And also right that it has been suggested that it is hard to teach ‘kids these days’ defense.
03/16/2014 at 2:15 PM #46881RickKeymasterYea, it’s been said on here by some a few times.
Then they know nothing. Who on their right mind makes that statement.
Packfanostan,
Quit trolling03/16/2014 at 2:17 PM #46882RickKeymasterit is hard to teach ‘kids these days’ defense.
That is a different statement than ‘defense can’t be taught’.
03/16/2014 at 2:17 PM #46883WulfpackParticipantI can’t remember the specifics of the posts but it had something to do with kids coming in already set in their ways, and they really can’t be taught how to play D. And how it takes a bunch of time for them to learn. Granted, Bennett recruits the right kind of kid. But something tells me he could go into Harlem today and take a team a long way.

The announcers said someone else called it but Luckie went over to explain it to K.
03/16/2014 at 2:20 PM #46885MPParticipant^^^ true.
But at least watching UVA reminds us that it is achievable.03/16/2014 at 2:21 PM #46886RickKeymasterI can’t remember the specifics of the posts but it had something to do with kids coming in already set in their ways, and they really can’t be taught how to play D. Gotcha, I thought someone was saying defense was not able to be taught.
Agree about Bennett, he insists on good defense. I always questioned his ability to teach offense03/16/2014 at 2:24 PM #46888RickKeymasterMy guess is that defense comment was made trying to excuse our sorry defense. Honestly it is inexcusable.
03/16/2014 at 2:25 PM #46889pakfanistanParticipantVirginia isn’t slow, they’re just ridiculously patient.
03/16/2014 at 2:30 PM #46891pakfanistanParticipantI wonder if K will do the fainting goat thing if Virginia wins.
03/16/2014 at 2:32 PM #46892TheCOWDOGModeratorI made it, and it was no excuse for the team. Just reality.
No. You can’t teach a WBS or a BSW, size and or quick feet, and make them efficient Man to Man defenders.
IMO..they did learn a pretty good zone. I don’t recall anyone saying you can’t teach defense.

When you compare it to what you see today, we are playing in a different universe. Duke was wide open all day long. Not so today.

Good technique can cover a lot of liabilities but those two certainly have ceilings. I would certainly argue they can be better than they are now.

We don’t even get into a stance or slide our feet. I don’t know how man times I’ve watched our guys get their feet crossed up trying to guard the a ball handler, or a cutting player, which is usually followed by a lay up.
03/16/2014 at 2:40 PM #46899WulfpackParticipantI think it toom Duke the first ten minutes to find an open three today. Duke.
They were open from the opening tip yesterday. And it remained so. All game long. And Gott knew it. He said at the half we would have to play better D if we were going to win.

I hope he’s watching this game.
03/16/2014 at 2:51 PM #46902pakfanistanParticipantA four point lead for VA seems like 10.
