24/7 Sports doesn’t have a dedicated NC State site but they are paying attention to the Wolfpack. Writer Steve Wiltfong dropped a little article this

Very happy that Dave Doeren and his staff and program are getting a little recognition for all the hard work their putting in on and off the field.

Pop another Red Bull Larry and hit the gym while DD hits the NC recruiting trail.
To seem, rather than to be. You and Geno make a GREAT pair of douche bags.
Go Pack!

Please, no need to insult douche bags. Besides, they need douche bags at EweNC with all the pussies they have on defense.
Does 24/7 seriously think Doeren is building a Playoff Contender? I don’t think I will consider staying home from Carter this fall because we aren’t playing Alabama. It’s a good thing we have an agreement pending with the SEC because not many good teams will want to play NC State.
Wanna see what’s possible for State? Look up the Wolfpack teams under Earl Edwards in the 60’s. We were one damn yard away from being #1 in the nation when we were stopped on 4th down at the 1 by Penn State at “Happy Valley.” I only bring this up to counter the “it can’t be done” crowd.
Go Pack!!
01/25/2015 at 11:35 AM #7108013OTParticipantThe 1967 team was a big and bruising team that was built on defense. It’s now looking like our running game is about to get better, especially if our O-line improves some.
I still think we need a passing QB instead of trying to plug in a running back at this position, especially since we’re getting a 4-star RB in McClendon. I think Brissett has done as well as he can at QB, but I certainly hope Doeren will look for a good HS prospect for our next QB instead of us taking yet another transfer.
There are still some possibilities out there, as Michigan just yesterday grabbed a 6-7 pocket-passer who had been committed to Texas but will now go to UM instead.
01/25/2015 at 12:07 PM #71081WufpackerParticipantOur next QB is already on campus.

I only brought up the ’67 Pack to point to what’s possible to the younger folk who can’t see NC State ever competing for the NC.
We haven’t had a QB like Brissett at State — one who could beat you with his arm and feet. 13OT, look again at McClendon. The word leaking out of the practices at State is this young man can really throw it. I’m glad to hear he’s an RB type QB as well.
That little QB at Clemson who can both run and throw — was the number one dual threat QB in his class. He can hurt you either way. DD wisely protected Brissett from injury. We should have enough talent at RB, FB and SB to take the heat off our QB — keep him from taking a pounding running the ball. Jacobi was smart while running the ball, taking the 10 to 20 yards the defense gave him before stepping out of bounds or hitting the ground before he was hit.
I hate to bring it up but we are likely to see the Wildcat again this fall. Too many really good RB’s not to. The average fan like myself has a limited imagination as to how to use all those backs but Matt Canada, Des Kitchings and George McDonald don’t. I’m trusting Coach U will have the OLine blocking and clearing the way for this stable of thoroughbreds we have at RB to all have opportunities to show why they are highly rated.
Not only does our coaching staff know recruiting, they know the details of coaching our boys up as well. And they will not be out worked.

While I agree with your point, there was this guy named Russell Wilson who was pretty good with both his feet and his arm. Just saying.

(blush) Of course. It’s too bad he had to play with an Old Testament OC. Can you imagine RW playing for this coaching staff?
01/25/2015 at 12:59 PM #71089coach13ParticipantNeed to pick one off from Ohio State. Sit out Brissett’s last season and take over following year…
01/25/2015 at 3:09 PM #71105PackFamilyParticipant??? McClendon is built like a QB, not a RB. He also apparently throws like one. Dude is likely the future for us at QB. I don’t understand this discussion at all.
01/25/2015 at 3:37 PM #71111GowolvesParticipantYeah PackFam I heard McClendon is like 6’5″. A big dude.

OT13 had a “senior moment” and was maybe thinking about TA McC from the past.
01/26/2015 at 12:24 AM #71520ryebreadParticipantI’m very happy with recruiting this year. Finishing strong down the stretch, bowling down and winning our bowl game has given us a huge amount of momentum coming into the season. The narrative of 8-5, having won the last 3 is a lot stronger than 7-6 coming off of getting crushed in a bowl (like what happened to Louisville).
I’ll withhold all “Wildcat” comments at this point. It was thankfully ditched this past year and I hope we don’t see it return, unless one of these RBs can actually throw it.
01/26/2015 at 1:48 PM #71588Pack78ParticipantMore national ink for CDD’s recruiting efforts:
01/26/2015 at 4:14 PM #71599D WolfParticipantJalen McClendon was described by the recruiting services as a Pro Style QB/pocket passer. What’s nice is that he can run when he needs to. If you’re still unsure go back and look at the film from his senior year in high school.
01/26/2015 at 7:10 PM #71613jrcox4ParticipantI’m not sure why so many people are peeved about our use of the wildcat last year. It allowed our OL to get used to blocking designed QB runs (which we called later in the season to great success) in noncon games without risking our QB to injury early in the season. Personally, I hope we use it again early in the season if it means Jacoby is at 100% come November.
Is it time for spring ball yet?
01/28/2015 at 4:58 AM #71724ncsu_kappaParticipantWith Jacobi running from day one this year and that stable of running backs we will certainly see a ton of the read option.
01/28/2015 at 9:02 AM #71732packbackr04Participant…and we picked up Jakobi Meyers (dual threat QB) for this class. Although FLorida is trying to take him away from us right now.
01/28/2015 at 5:29 PM #71759PackFamilyParticipantI’m not sure why so many people are peeved about our use of the wildcat last year.
My complaint was that our RB’s ran it themselves almost every single time, so it was easily read by the opposing D. I guess that is expected.
However, if they handed off more it may worked better over the long run.

Holy crap has the stock gotten ahead of itself here. I am optimistic, but we have never handled high expectations well.
01/28/2015 at 5:34 PM #71762WulfpackParticipantPlayoff contender? As in top 4 nationally? Wow. Ok. Might want to try finishing ahead of FSU, Clemson and Louisville first before we go there. All signs point to optimism but we have to trump those guys first.
01/30/2015 at 6:11 PM #72241GowolvesParticipantTyrone Riley, DE from GA, flipped from KY and has verbaled to the Pack!
