The final ‘all-sports’ intercollegiate Directors Cup for 2007-2008 has been released and is accessible by clicking here. (Looks like Lee Fowler’s second embarrassment in one day.) NC State didn’t obtain extra credit for our great ‘fuhcilities’ or our fantastic fans and therefore finished the year ranked 56th in the country and next to last in […]

The State of State Part Four – AD Battle Royale
In previous entries, several commenters had expressed an interest in some historical statistics for comparison purposes. Below are some conference title and winning percentage stats over the last 22 years for the past five Athletic Directors at NC State.
Mid June Football Check
After yesterday’s entry on Markus Kuhn and last week’s little entry about the best players in the ACC we are starting to grind some attention towards football season. Can you believe that football practice starts in just a month and a half? To get yourself off on the right foot you can click here to […]
TSN: Ranking the ACC’s Best FBall Players
It’s always interesting to look at lists like these. NC State only has two players – Anthony Hill and Willie Young – on the entire list. I think that is representative of what we all recognized a few years ago and expected to be the case as Chuck Amato’s recruiting was starting to suffer and […]
Tudor’s Take on Next Year’s ACC Basketball
While we all admit that it is ridiculously early to start talking 2008-2008 Basketball…but, this is Tobacco Road and that is what we do! Caulton Tudor has provided his pre-summer prognostication for the entire conference and it can be seen here. The Wolfpack is picked 9th: 9. N.C. STATE (15-16, 4-12) PROJECTED STARTERS: Brandon Costner, […]
The State of State Part Three–Meet The Standards
“My goals have always been to be in the top three in the conference. If you’re in the top three you always have a chance to win the championship. That’s an obvious goal as well. Minimum goals, we don’t want to be in the bottom-half of anything.. the bottom-half in any sport.†–Lee Fowler, PackPride.com, […]
The State of State Part One — Overall ACC Records
Disclaimer: Only facts and statistics will be stated below, you the reader can draw your own conclusions and opinions.
Listed below are the overall ACC records for NC State’s team sports (teams that have a won-loss record) for the eight year time span Lee Fowler has been AD (2000-01 to 2007-08).
Revenue Sports
• Football: 28-36 (.438)
• M Basketball: 60-68 (.469)
• W Basketball: 63-57 (.525)
• Baseball: 109-104 (.512)
Postseason Drought
Seems like it wasn’t so long ago that State’s football team punched America’s sweetheart in the mouth in the Gator Bowl (thanks Sean Berton), or that men’s basketball beat UConn at the buzzer to make the Sweet 16 or that Kay Yow led the Wolfpack Women to the Final Four.
But much like Falls Lake, State’s postseason appearances dried up this school year. While baseball is still in progress (and should make the NCAA tournament), the other three revenue programs failed to make a bowl game or the NCAA Tournament. That puts State in a category as one of five BCS schools to have that distinction.
NCAA & ACC Championships since 2000
The table below that can be seen in larger a format by clicking here ranks Atlantic Coast Conference institutions by the number of ACC Championships claimed since 2000 (the year that Lee Fowler came to NC State). Additionally, the italicized numbers in parantheses is the rank for each school in the designated column. For example, […]
BJD95’s ACC Honors
While we wait for Miami to put us out of our collective misery, I present you with my picks for ACC hoops honors, 2008 edition. You may recall that I did this last year. Generally speaking, the ACC was not as interesting this year. But some folks deserve recognition anyway. Coach of the Year: Oliver […]
