Raleigh, N.C. — A large portrait of North Carolina State University women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, who died one week ago from breast cancer, was defaced by blue graffiti and profanity Saturday night. N.C. State sophomore Forbes Starling, 19, said he heard from other students that Yow’s mural had been defaced after the N.C. State […]

Media Watch: The Pulse Of The Wolfpack Fanbase; CNNSi Cheerleader of the Week
A couple of interesting things in the media for you: Dessert before dinner: we don’t often talk about the cheerleading or dance squad teams here at SFN, but these folks work hard to represent NC State well, and in the case of the cheerleading team, are former national champions. In short, there’s a lot more […]
Great Wolfpack fans help save another bowl
So sorry for the lack of activity on the blog over the last week or so. In addition to the holidays I went down to Birmingham for the game and my laptop is having some issues; I am just now getting back to something that resembles a normal life. I’ll have more from Birmingham later, but […]

State’s ticket office has sold about 5,500 of its allotment of 10,000 seats for the Papajohns.com Bowl, State assistant athletics director Brian Kelly said Thursday. Remember that these are only tickets sold officially through the Wolfpack Club. I usually suggest obtaining tickets from the WPC for bowl games; […]
Laugh. Think. Cry.
V himself had said that team wasn’t very good. After a 6-8 conference record, State was seeded sixth for the 1987 ACC Tournament in Landover. But somehow – not unlike a few years earlier on an even bigger stage – Jim Valvano’s Cardiac Pack had survived and advanced to the title game, where they would […]

Jimmy V Week is underway on ESPN, and while my wife and I were out at dinner, we saw V’s incredible speech at the ESPY Awards in 1993 replayed on the World Wide Leader. It was moving, as always, but the farewell speech I remember the best from Jim Valvano was one far more direct […]
A Season to Remember
NC State closed out the 2008 regular season with a convincing 38-28 win over Miami. The team that (for September and most of October) looked as if it could be one of the all-time worst Wolfpack squads turned out to be one of the most memorable. Clemson’s thumping of South Carolina means that 10 ACC […]
