With the Spring Football game approaching this weekend and with NC State’s football recruiting evolving into a very different dynamic under Tom O’Brien than we had under Chuck Amato, we thought that we would share some interesting insight from a former college football coach. (Tip of the hat to Dave Sez for linking this up […]

College Football Recruiting Map
We’re spending a little time on football tonight, so it is a good time to highlight a really, really neat website that we ran across a couple of weeks ago when football recruiting was hot. Amongst a lot of other things, this hotlink to “MapGameDay.com” maps the geographical location of every high school commitment throughout […]
SFN Garners #2
StateFansNation experienced quite a year of growth and popularity in 2006. Included in our growth was a significant amount of public recognition, most recently evidenced by our #2 finish in the ACC category in the College Football Bloggers Awards. Link to story State Fans Nation is one of the most vibrant, interactive communities on the […]
Fanblogs On Fire
Fanblogs isn’t the only blog with multiple entries that might interest you. ACCNow continues to refine their craft and share great stuff. They’ve been following Engin Atsur‘s injury very closely and today provide us some optimistic news (linked here). I don’t know if you check 0ut Fanblogs.com very often, but most of their most recent […]
A View from the Cheap Seats
But let’s be honest, there’s not a conceivable playoff system out there that will both determine a true national champion while simultaneously filling the coffers of every BCS school (and, of course, Notre Dame).
The NCAA basketball tournament is a billion-dollar three-weekend event that crowns a true national champion with unrivaled elegance and unscripted suspense. Unfortunately, there’s just no way college football could ever replicate it.
But that’s ok, because the three-month regular season is college football’s billion-dollar event. Almost every Saturday along the way during these three months we the fans get a big game or two (or more, on those rare Saturdays) that means something to the standings. I’m good with that.
Bowl Giving and Fun Stuff
Tip of the hat to 850TheBuzz for highlighting this article at Rivals about the loot raked in by players at collegiate bowl games. Football Stat Relevance
VaWolf will love this! Awesome statistical information for football junkies. Thanks to SMQ for the work. First counterintuitive result: the most penalized teams were slightly better as a whole than the least penalized teams. Penalty yardage, over the course of an entire season, had no discernible effects on winning and losing. You can probably think […]
Deadspin: Fun Stuff
We thought that we would start the week off with some fun items of non-NC State interest. All of the following links are from Deadspin in recent days. And all are pretty good in their own way. Riot: UMass Students find reason to riot Oregon Ducks new football helmets: It might save some money just […]
BCS Playoffs: Where you Lose Me EVERY time
It is that time of year again!! Time to whine about college football’s bowl system and lack of playoffs! I have engaged in dozens of fantastic conversations with friends in recent years regarding the topic of a hypothetical playoff system in college football. You may be surprised to learn that in the past I have […]
Bill Simmons Back Tracks on Bush v Mario Williams
Bill Simmons is probably one of SFN’s favorite writers. We are about the same age, grew up at the same time etc. His “13 Levels of Losing” is a MUST read for all NC State fans. That said, he jumped the gun on the Mario Williams/Reggie Bush debate like many of his friends in the […]
