Last year I did a series of entries with summaries of ACC records and titles(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5). This year I will be posting entries by sport and at the end of the school year I am planning on doing some overall summaries for the athletic department. I will […]
And You Thought NC State Celebrated Mediocrity
Apparently this ad was published in Columbia’s newspaper, The State, and it celebrates the mediocrity of the South Carolina Gamecocks. Not even NC State revels in mediocrity like this (and we all know that is saying something). The plan is for their football team to be one game under .500 at the end of the […]
Carolina Hurricanes Are To Thank For Golfer Matt Hill
Faceoff for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Hurricanes and Penguins is only hours away. And I’m sure State golfer Matt Hill will be watching. CBS Sports makes mention of Matt Hill on their golf page in a column by Steve Elling (thanks to ruffles31 for sending me the link). Different game […]
Wolfpack Wins Three Championships In One Day
Despite NC State’s absence from the NCAA Tournament, Saturday was a good day for the Wolfpack athletics program, winning individual national championships in wrestling and diving and a conference championship in gymnastics. Wrestler Darrion Caldwell won the NCAA title in the 149 pound class, defeating Iowa’s Brent Metcalf, the defending national champion, by a score […]
NCAA Tournament Teams That Get All The Calls – Carolina, Connecticut and Chattanooga?
During our ACC Tournament viewing party, the subject came up of how much more North Carolina goes to the free throw line than their opponents. One of the excuses we had always heard was that their talent level discrepancy leads to the free throw discrepancy (and absolutely nothing to do with biased officiating…) This led us to wonder about a team like Memphis that utterly dominates Conference USA and is head and shoulders above the rest of the league, what sort of free throw advantage do they have?
Worst. Tailgate. Ever.
Just a little something to prepare you for the impressive pre-game atmosphere in Chapel Hill, this was taken with my phone from a parking deck (surprise, surprise) before the 06 game. But they’ve got those pine trees going for them. Which is nice.
Non-Revenue Sports Update; Kerrigan steps down(updated)
Here is an update on how State’s non-revenue sports are doing so far this school year plus a few other tidbits at the bottom. Men’s Cross Country • Finished 2nd in the ACC Championships • State has finished at least 3rd in the ACC for the past 20 years, including finishing 1st or 2nd in […]
Volleyball ACC Losing Streak Comes To An End!
Tonight in Reynolds Coliseum, the NC State volleyball team snapped a 56 game ACC losing streak with a 3-1 win over Boston College. Witnessed in person by myself and good friend and fellow stat major ruffles31, the Pack now stands 1-0 for the season in the ACC and 7-9 overall. Congrats to Coach Stubbs and […]
Carter-Finley Karaoke
NC State’s athletic department is currently taking votes for a sing-along anthem to be played between the third and fourth quarters at Carter-Finley Stadium. You can find the article and vote here. Let’s take a look at the 3 songs mentioned in the first paragraph of the gopack.com article. First, “Sweet Caroline†was played at […]
The State of State Part Five – ACC Rankings (Bar Graphs Galore)
How do NC State’s ACC winning percentages and conference finishes compare to the other schools in the conference during Lee Fowler’s tenure as AD from 2000-01 to 2007-08? Below are winning percentage statistics in ACC play for the 13 sports that have win/loss records and average finish for the 8 sports that do not have […]
