There is a lot of momentum amongst Wolfpackers’ current interest in football…so, we are going to ride this train a little more.
On the heels of VaWolf’s statistical entry, I thought that the community would be very interested in this recent find. Good stuff.
It would be particularly interesting to analyze the performance of the different schools more directly against each other.
Remember, its performance, not achievement, so years with the highest win totals may not actually be a certain team’s best season. And its also only conference play, so any non-conference action, championship games, and bowl game are excluded
^So, State’s analysis would generally improve based on our generally solid OOC & bowl performance, even in the MOC years.
Included in the NC State commentary is this jewel:
Chuck Amato without Phillip Rivers is like Wham! without George Michael. NC State’s average SDPI with Amato and Rivers: 0.385. NC State’s average SDPI with Amato and without Rivers: -0.83.
But, I don’t quite understand the author’s comments regarding the Mike O’Cain situation. Maybe the comments would make some sense if Mike O’Cain only coached those two years included in the analysis…but those two years were year six and seven that were coming not too far behind two consecutive EMBARASSING 3-8 seasons and included losing records to both UNC and ECU. The author should have just left that one alone.
Since Tom O’Brien now coaches NC State…it is worth checking out the Boston College section.
Tom O’Brien is responsible for all of these seasons having been the head man at BC since 1997. If O’Brien has been anything, its steady. He’s never had a bad season nor a tremendous season. Since 2001, the Eagles have been above average every year save 2003, peaking in their last season in the watered-down Big East (2004) and again in O’Brien’s final season this past year.
Best SDPI Finish: 3rd Big East (2001 and 2004), 4th ACC (2006)
