Meh.

Hey, Didya See This?????

Road win in ATL. Not bad. So what if we turned a 14 pt lead into a shot for them to win it at the end. Baby Steps. They missed.

NC State edges GT, ends 7-game losing streak (SalisburyPost.com)

ATLANTA (AP) — North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried finally got the win he’s been looking for.

It came too late to save his job going into next season, but Gottfried was proud of the team’s effort.

“I think what’s happened is our guys have just continued to hang in there,” Gottfried said. “Our practices have been phenomenal. We’ve had great enthusiasm, great energy.”

Terry Henderson scored 21 points, Dennis Smith Jr. added 18 points and N.C. State dealt a blow to Georgia Tech’s slim NCAA Tournament hopes with a 71-69 victory on Tuesday night.

It was the second game for the Wolfpack (15-14, 4-12 Atlantic Coast Conference) since the school announced Gottfried won’t return for a seventh season as coach. N.C. State snapped a seven-game losing streak.

“We want to send him out on a good note,” Smith said. “He deserves it.”

Pack Withstands Georgia Tech Rally to Secure Road Win (GoPack.com)

With the win, NC State improved to 15-14 on the season, 4-12 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech fell to 16-12, 7-8 in the ACC.

NC State led 63-50 with 2:20 to play and still led by nine, 68-59, with 36 seconds to go, but the Yellow Jackets mounted one final rally, closing to within 70-69 on a three-pointer with four seconds to play. Dennis Smith, Jr., connected on one free throw to put the Pack up two and NC State secured the win as Georgia Tech’s last second three-pointer bounced off the rim.

NC State did not trail after the first five minutes of the game. The Pack was down 6-4 before going on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. Georgia Tech would close within one, 19-18, with 7:47 left in the first half, but NC State responded with a 10-2 run to take a 29-20 lead with 5:21 to go in the first half. Terry Henderson scored eight consecutive points for the Pack during the run.

The Pack entered the halftime locker room with the momentum as NC State scored the final four points of the opening 20 minutes courtesy of a lob to Ted Kapita from Markell Johnson and a heads-up steal and lay-up from Maverick Rowan to go into the break with a 39-30 lead.

Pack’s energy key in UVa matchup (TechnicianOnline.com)

The NC State men’s basketball team is set to face the Virginia Cavaliers Saturday at noon in PNC Arena after defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, 71-69.

The Wolfpack (15-14, 4-12 ACC) snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Yellow Jackets. NC State dominated two surprising categories in the matchup: rebounds and second-chance points. The Pack won the glass battle 40-28 and second chances 14-5.

State led for the majority of the game, as the Jackets only lead was by two just 30 seconds in. The Pack had some shaky moments but controlled the game until the last couple of minutes. NC State’s largest lead was 14 with 3:09 left in the game, then Tech cooked a furious comeback that fell just short with a 3-pointer bouncing off the rim as the clock expired, yielding a Pack victory.

NC State mustered its second road victory of the season and its first win since Jan. 23.

Furthermore, the Cavaliers (18-9, 8-7 ACC) are searching for their first win in quite some time. Virginia is currently on a four-game losing streak, dropping games to Virginia Tech, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill and Miami.

The Cavs have struggled over the past four games, as well as the entire season with offense. Over the past four games, Virginia has scored a combined 222 points, an average of 55.5 per game. In UVa’s loss to Miami, the Cavaliers managed just 48 points, and that’s including a five-minute overtime period.

The Cavaliers are ranked 301st nationally in scoring offense. To put that mark into perspective, schools like Prairie View A&M University, California Polytechnic State University and Morgan State University rank higher in scoring offense.

For what the Cavaliers lack in offense, they make up for in lockdown defense. Virginia is ranked No. 1 and No. 20 nationally in scoring defense and opponent field-goal percentage, respectively. Head coach Tony Bennett’s team, while not flashy or high-scoring, gets the job done, year in, year out.

holy shit, during the WVU/TCU game Chris Washburn gets a mention that didn’t have anything to do with law enforcement or court dates.

    Nice.

Regarding the NIT, last year they took FSU, VT and GT.

    VT was 10-8 in conference.

FSU and GT were each 8-10.

My guess is this year NIT bids will be reserved for the likes of Wake, GT and Clemson, assuming they miss out on the NCAA Tourney.

They keep saying he wants to keep coaching. I seriously doubt a high major takes him. I could see him at a place like ECU or Tulane or some directional Florida school.

    Comments from game.

Crowd was a little larger than expected.

    Gottfried did not play Y7.

Maverick was afraid to shoot at end.

Brickhouse in game. Crowd yelling for BJ. He stands up a little and looks towards Gottfried. Gott turns head and ignores him.

Really won’t miss that @$$ hole side of him. Presser was all teams fault.

Erratic substitution. No creativity in defense first half. Love Maverick, but when you’re OFF, you should be OUT. Favoritism at work.

Count Clemson in the NIT, even before we beat them. They miss a wide open 8-footer and lose close again, now 4-12 in conference.

Not a fan of Doris Burke and you know you have reached a new low when she is in town. BUT, she did say during the 2nd half – “I was excited to see Smith and knew I had these two games in a row to see him play. Frankly I am underwhelmed.”

    Spot on, nailed it!

GUY with the bun repeatedly burned DSJ for a career high. I would be interested in seeing a +/- stat like they have in hockey for DSJ and the man he is guarding (and I use that term very loosely).

If Clemson goes in a new direction, Brownell’s GPS will let him down….Big Time.

I hope you weren’t think somehow we would be in that mix…. we were 12-3 and now we’re 15-15. Would you hire someone with such a stellar resume?.

Chain, my point was precisely that we are not in the NIT mix. Not even close.

And it doesn’t help to have a lame duck coach even IF we were closer. They like to hand out bids to programs that are on the rise. And that ain’t us this year.

Heard a tidbit on the post game show that in home acc games our opponents shot 51% from the 3 point line.

    Impressive.
