Pack Heads to ‘Ville…Upset Special?

Hello again my Wolven friends.  I’ve been away, but now I’m back (everyone groans).

In all seriousness, my apologies for being absent since baseball ended.  Life has a way of inserting itself into….well, life.

I’m kinda doing this on short notice today because our good friend, BJD95 is on loan to the gods of Best Buy.  Or maybe Lowe’s.  Or maybe Home Depot.  WhoTF knows with that guy?  Either way, he’s otherwise engaged with appliance delivery, so you’re stuck with me for this week.

The Pack rolls into Louisville today at 12noon EDT to see if they can run with the horses.  Last week, we managed to stay with the Tiggs pretty well.  My kingdom for a kicking game.  I was in the mountains of NC/VA with only spotty cell coverage to keep up with the score.  So I was spared most of the heartache.  Mostly.  I knew we’d tied it at 17, and lost coverage to keep up with the score.  At a roadside store, a very kind hearted VT fan was listening to their game.  I asked if he knew anything about ours.  He didn’t.

But he did call his buddy to find out for me.  He told me we were driving for the winning FG.  “No…no, we aren’t” I told him.  A few minutes later he came to the back of the store to find me and tell me we’d missed.

Nonetheless, this guy was aces to have gone out of his way to help me keep up, in spite of the result.  Hat’s off to you mountainous VT fan.

‘Ville is a nearly 3 TD fav currently.  -20.5 is the last line I saw.

Lamar Jackson is probably the Heisman front runner currently.  It’s time to dash his hopes IMHO.  Hit him hard, hit him often.  Give him the Teddy Bridgewater special…

Here’s some links….

How to watch Louisville vs. NC State online: Live stream, TV channel (SI.com)

The Cardinals (5–1, 3–1 ACC) came away with a 24–14 victory over Duke in its last outing. Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson continues to solidify his status as Heisman frontrunner, throwing for 1,806 yards and 15 touchdowns, and also running for 960 yards and another 11 scores so far this season.

The Wolfpack had a chance to pull off an upset over Clemson and put a serious dent in the Tigers’ bid to return to the national championship game. But NC State Kyle Bambard missed a 33-yard field goal at end of regulation that would have won the game and Clemson eventually prevailed in overtime, winning 24–17.

Game Day: Louisville vs. NC State (CardChronicle.com)

DEFENSE

NC State has never been known as a defensive powerhouse school but the 2016 defense has shown to be much improved. The Wolfpack has a front seven that has really gotten after the quarterback and they have a back end that has been serviceable at stopping the pass. The Wolfpack has a good amount of speed but they will be tested with trying to contain Lamar Jackson in the run game.

Never say never, jerkweed.  It hasn’t been that long ago that our D-line dominated the NFL draft.  You’ve really pissed me off now.  Now I want us to not only beat you and ruin your boy’s Heisman hopes, but I want us to hurt him.

Obviously, the good folks at the ‘Ville can’t tell time.

OK, I’m out of time.

These Game Day guys have all picked against us as I type.  Can’t blame ’em.  But it’s time to SHOCK THE WORLD!!!!!!!

White on Red unis today guys.

Maybe the experts will pump the brakes on the great State defense.

Today was ugly, at least the first half. Only game we haven’t been in, with no chance to win. Just have to put it behind us, and show up the rest of the season, forgetting what the media says about us. One game at a time, and not forgetting, we are undefeated at home. Go Pack!

I’m sick of getting thumped by ranked teams. We’ve had ONE close game against a real good team in four years. Last week. And we show up today same ole same ole. I’m ready to move on. I’ll be waiting for you guys in a year or two.

two glasses of red (what else). Our differential compared to FSU was a few points less. FSU was nationally ranked when Petrino and the Birds kicked their fannies. YES, there was a little dissatisfaction in Tallawhatever land….but NO HANGING IN EFFIGY.

SO, next week, we will play again. I, and many of you, will be there and will yell out criticisms and also advice to the coaches….and the Zebs.

We beat ND in conditions that were miserable….my rain pants just finally dried out. We played Clemson nose to nose and lost on an errant FB. I did NOT call for the castration or the “casting off the island” of Bambard.

That is about it. Do we have someone in Coach D that is a Saban under all the layers? Probably not. We DON’T have the best reputation for recognizing or keeping talent. Lest ye forget, WE chased off The Lone Ranger….Monte Kiffin.

We will survive. We need to win as many of the remaining games as we can and we MUST, absolutely, positively, unequivally….without reproach or concession, BEAT UNC.

Dr. Woodson is NOT going to jump in here and fire Debbie…and I would be more upset if he did. She has restored a lot of “spirit” at NCSU. Is she perfect….far from it.

BUT, we are better off. NOW, would we be better off if Bobby Purcell had been offered the job….probably not….but he was the only one that was on the slate that I backed.

Watching the PSU vs. OSU. OSU has their hands full….and PSU is unranked. Sort of like what happened last week in Death Valley….the locals won. PSU is down by 9, but they are at home….

We shall see….what we shall see….

Again, I’ll say the BIG difference is both Jimbo Fisher and Urban Meyer both have National Championship rings. Comparatively, Dave D. has a 7-20 conference record as our head coach. In that respect, he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.. at least not from me.

Holding those guys up next to Dave and cherry picking a couple outcomes doesn’t hold weight for me.

Did anyone actually expect us to cover today? Louisville with the points had to be the easiest bet of the year. No way DD was going to have that team ready to play today after last week. Even if he did, Petrino is the best coach in the league and it was away.

Sadly, at 4-3 (1-2), we are right where I expected we’d be right now. ND and ECU are flipped, but we’re well on our way to my 6-6 (3-5) prediction.

What will be interesting is what happens in the offseason. Will Yow give DD another extension? Hux will clearly be the sacrificial lamb. I suspect it comes down to how badly UNC beats us….

We play 1 good-but-not-great (FSU), 2 average (Holes, Da U), and 2 mediocre (Cuse, BC) sides the rest of the way.

The final record will speak to what kind of program we have, and what kind of coach DD is.

So under Doeren we are 22-23 (48.8%) overall and are 7-20 (25.9%) for the conference – and all the players are his recruits.

    OUCH.

I’m just saying.. We were down 44-0 at halftime.. that’s not promising, regardless of who we are playing.

I guess Bluto was wrong, it was over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Urban Myers ain’t real happy this AM. Unranked PSU took down #2 OSU. Petrino REALLY happy.

This pretty much eliminates the “2 B1G” scenario, methinks. Petrino still needs a Washington loss.

One of the worst things about the last two games is that both were televised nationally, not regionally, on ABC. Our program looks disorganized and lost, and it’s doubtful that any decent potential recruits would look at us as one they’d like to be a part of.

I drove through Louisville and Kentucky early Saturday afternoon on my way back home from Kansas (a level we’re headed for fast), and listened to most of the game on WHAS (Louisville network). It was awful. They pretty much dismissed us as just another game that mattered little. The papers there had little to say about football; the focus was on basketball and possible sanctions.

The BC game, which we will probably win, will prove little if we do, regardless of by how much we win. The real possibility of going go oh-for-November gives Wolfpack fans little to look forward to. This program isn’t even holding steady anymore; it’s moving, slowly but surely, downhill. I know we don’t have top-shelf talent, but if we are good enough to throw one away at Clemson, then we shouldn’t be pounded the following week. This is like Texas and Baylor back in the day, except that we’re now losing both games instead of winning when we shouldn’t and being blown out when we should win.

At best I see 5-7, and that’s only because of a hurricane. And then what will the AD say? More importantly, what will the fan base, the ticket-buying portion, say? MUST we retain not only a mediocre coaching staff, but a mediocre AD as well, for another season? Or two? Or three? This pattern of HOPING for improvement, with absolutely no other reason than blind faith to support this hope, is taking this program into the toilet.

If we don’t soon flush the responsible parties, this program, which is already circling the bowl, will be flushed. If a change doesn’t come next season, I plan to flush my LTR football tickets. It’s like Einstein said, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is blah blah blah………

Oh, I feel so much better after reading the N&O article today…

“The good news is it has been worse for the Wolfpack. Georgia Tech smothered N.C. State 128-0 in 1918”.

    Some F-ing consolation. Sad.

9-3 is possible for us, though not probable. But to accomplish that tall order, we have to show up for every game from here on out, from beginning to the end. We, as the coach stated, are better than what we showed vs the ville. Just gotta get back on track, and I honestly believe we will. Here’s hoping my optimism pays off.

I was out of town for the weekend and recorded the game but came in 5 minutes into the second quarter and my worst fears were happening. I KNEW that was a possibility this week though. That team hung 63 on FSU and gave them one of their worst losses in history (A LOT OF STORIED HISTORY). And now a great many has their hair on fire again. the ville hung 63 on FSU. What part of that makes them hanging 54 on us surprising.

After their poor showing over the previous two weeks, especially with Duke, and our showing against Clemson I was afraid Petrino would read them the riot act EVERYDAY this week. I wonder how many times he showed them that missed field goal. After them losing to Clemson AND seeing how well we did last week against Clemson at home the stage was set. They HAD to make an example, from my perspective we made a few mistakes early on that cost us the chance to be respectable. And in case you haven’t noticed that QB is as good as anybody in college football if not the best, and they have another back that does the 8 yds/rush thing and not all of that against push over competition. The reality here is that team is DAMNED good and should be undefeated with some power wins over really good competition and should be ranked in the top 3. We didn’t have our A game but there are lots of factors in that. If you can’t understand that then you don’t know squat about football.

Louisville is the best team in the ACC. Clemson played their best game of the year in beating them, rode the home crowd and caught a couple of breaks. I think if that game is played 10 times, Louisville wins 6-7.

Clemson played a bad game against us and did about everything possible to gift wrap it. Had they been clicking, they’d have scored 40. People wanted to believe we’d turned some corner, but the outcome yesterday was not surprising.

I am not one to blow smoke up somebody’s whatever and sure as hell don’t cater to couched intellectualism…but this might be one of the most profound statements I’ve read on here.

If the ville is clicking they could easily hang 50 on Bama.

That is a sadness. It must have gone straight to the bit bucket.

It was a masterpiece of logic and prose and I feel physical anguish at knowing the world has been deprived of my genius.
