Eight. Keep that number on file. It doesn’t refer to Yogi, Cal, or anyone on the gridiron as Wake Forest comes to C-F on Saturday. I’ll not say anymore, just put it in your wallet.
State opens its ACC schedule coming off a bye week against an improved 4-0 Deacon squad. That week’s worth of competitive shutdown is normally considered a good thing. In fact, with Wake fresh off a road victory over a Big Ten opponent, it most assuredly is a good thing.
So…With no Pack action from this past weekend, why does it feel like the boys still had their fannies kicked? Human nature. With Duke’s win in South Bend, UNX burning Pitt in the last seconds, ECU being “exposed” for the second straight week and to an extent Wake’s win over a P5 team, it sort’a left the Wolfpack faithful feeling like they were standing on the jetty watching, and waving at all the pretty sailing ships pass by.
Fortunately, college football players don’t have a habit of getting all melancholy and stuff. Nope. They, instead, are chomping at the bit for a game, antsy to get to Saturday. Hopefully, y’all are too, as this one v. Wake Forest is not a match up that earlier could have been a perceived as, “Another game that is not really gonna tell us much.” Quite the contrary, no? This is the game that is going to speak volumes. I didn’t anticipate the reveal coming before the Notre Dame slate, but here we are, and so too, here is the team.
The beginning of ACC play, to include ND, couldn’t come any sooner. Will this be a springboard to a competitive league schedule? Or will it be a jump in the ocean, with all those pretty ships sailing out there.
I enjoy viewing games with something specific in mind. I will be looking for an intangible Saturday…A chip on the shoulder.
