As of yesterday, Cat Barber has declared for the NBA draft. It’s not a huge surprise to the see the ACC leading scorer leave early, and we recognized this possibility earlier in the month. This season Barber averaged 23.5 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. Despite these numbers, he is expected to be a mid-to-late second round pick.

However, Barber is not signing with an agent and will be going through the NCAA new draft process, but it just seems unlikely for him to come back. Under this new rule underclassman can declare for the draft, work out for NBA teams and attend the NBA combine before withdrawing, but will also retain their eligibility. This year, the deadline to withdraw is May 25th, which is more than a month later than last year’s April 16th.
This year may have been a tough one for State fans, but they always remember and appreciate how Cat Barber gave it 100% every game for the Wolfpack and, in the words of the great Jimmy V, never gave up. We wish him luck on his future endeavors, and we will miss number 12 next year in PNC.
Despite losing Cat, the Pack can still look forward to having the No. 1 point guard in the nation, Dennis Smith, for next year to hopefully fill his shoes.
