Game Thread: Pack Heads North to BC

It’s November and there’s a chill in the air.  OK, no chill.  But it is November…seriously.  I double checked.  And the chill is supposed to be here in the next day or two.  Allegedly.

But either way, the home stretch of the ’15 College Football campaign is upon us.  And with only four games left on the schedule, the Pack has some work to do as they try to become bowl eligible for a second straight week after dropping a hard fought Halloween contest at home to Clemson.

Wolfpack Football (5-3, 1-3 ACC) will try to bounce back today as they hit the road the Chestnut Hill to take on the Eagles of Boston College (3-6, 0-6 ACC).

Despite being winless in league play, and also currently on a five game losing streak, BC is no pushover.  Their defense is tops in the nation yielding a mere 64.2 yards on the ground, 159.6 yards in the air, and only 13.3 points per game.  If they could score with any regularity whatsoever, they’d be downright dangerous.

Offensively, the Pack will have to find a way to get the job done in spite of being down yet another running back, as it was announced earlier in the week that Matt Dayes is out for the year after having had surgery to repair the toe he injured vs Clemson.  Reggie Gallaspy, Dakwa Nichols and (probably) Jaylen Samuels, will have to committee the hell out of the backfield from here on out.

Kickoff is 12:30pm, ACCN/ESPN3, locally on the Big 5.

November Stretch Drive Begins at Boston College (GoPack.com)

B.C. ranks first in the nation in total defense (223.8), first in rushing defense (64.2) and No. 1 in tackles for loss (88). In their last two games against Louisville and Virginia Tech, the Eagles dropped ball carriers on the other side of the line of scrimmage 27 times.

“We know it’s going to be a physical game and they’re a good defense,” said NC State tight end Cole Cook. “We prepare each week the same way for every team, so if we keep preparing the way we need to, I think we’ll be ok.”

Given the fact that Boston College also features the ACC’s least prolific offense, another quick start would be the perfect tonic for an NC State victory on Saturday. Over its last two games against Wake Forest and Clemson, the Wolfpack has put 41 points on the board in the first quarter. State has also gotten points on its opening drive in six out of eight games.

“We’ve just been focusing on starting fast,” Cook said. “Not only starting fast, but continuing that throughout the whole game. We focus on trying to play four quarters of football.”

TD! I think the announcers expected that to be incomplete. Welcome to the game guys.

I think from now on, Trowell doing a good should be referred to as Tbagging….as in, he just Tbagged the top ranked BC defense.

    Just a thought.

Hey now, he was fine on deep balls last year (I thought). And the Alston drop was all on Alston.

No, he wasn’t. Most of the time he would overthrow his receivers by 5-10 yards on deep passes.

Easy pease. How about the airing it out and the play calling?

Getting Samuels into the open field is just always a good thing.

Actually I think JB is back to playing like he did last year. And I have a feeling that the reason he looked bad earlier, especially Louisville & VT, had more to do with play calling and no receivers getting separation than it did with anything wrong with him.

Heel, I have to respectfully disagree. Last year JB was great at running and staying on his feet when taking hits but throwing the ball accurately down the field was not one of them. Through this season he’s continued to be inaccurate and frankly a lot of times he either does not see the open man down the field or refuses to throw to him and chooses the RB on the flats.

Once Burris walked the tightrope and stayed inbounds, it looked like he wasn’t sure what to do. LOL

Duke getting spanked by the Cheats. Hate to say it but they look pretty good this year. We better hope Gene is using these turds as a stepping stone to a head coach position somewhere else.
