    Going to Blacksburg and Winston-Salem EARLY in the slate is a HUGE break, schedule-wise. We don’t want to play them when maybe they have started to round into form a little bit. They should still suck in early-mid January. 4-0 ACC start would be a very nice shot across the bow.

    Looks like 12-13 OOC wins and 11-13 ACC wins IMO. Call it 25 wins and 12-6 in conference. Should be good enough for at least 4th in the ACC and a top 5 NCAA seed.

    I am cautiously optimistic this will be State’s best year since 1988-89.

    We should play the other Big Four teams twice EVERY season! Playing Duke twice probably won’t improve our win-loss record, but it’ll make us a better team by season’s end. And it sure beats playing VT, Miami and BC twice!

    One thing that needs to be restored is the WF game as the season finale. With the ACCT moving farther away from Tobacco Road, a long road trip only a few days before the tourney starts doesn’t help us. If we have to do this from now on, Duke and UNC should also have to give up their travel-free weekend that always comes just before the ACCT. Treat us all the same.

    Equal treatment by the ACC, there’s a thought. I do like the idea of State-Wake closing the season every year. This is another challenging schedule which should make us better at the end of the season. Of course it not only about who you play, but who you beat. I think this team can beat everyone listed. I think there are 7 NCAA teams and we are one of them. Someone will be a surprise, maybe Cuse or Wake. The league should be good, really hyped and competitive. Not sure a FF team is present. It should be fun though.

    This is a team with the potential to be really, really good. Plenty of ACC caliber talent and enough experience. (you just don’t see many of those senior laden teams anymore)
    But having said that, there’s still the question marks. BeeJay??? Abu could be dominant, will he? The twins could be our secret weapons at both end of the court, will they? Is Terry the upgrade on defense over TL and RT, and the strong scorer we think? Is Cat going to have the all world season we think he should? Can Nard give us some more offense? And will Mav and Kirk fit in and give us quality minutes this year? (I don’t even want to think about Mav possibly being the scoring machine out of the gate some people are hinting he may)
    If all or even most of these questions are answered positively, this could be a really fun year.

    The first questions I want to hear answered when practice starts are:
    1) Is BeeJay in playing condition?
    2) Is Nard recovering as scheduled? We really need him because question #1 makes me nervous.
    3) Is Mav showing signs of living up to his press clippings?

    Only thing I would like to see differently is for us to play unc-g @ Greensboro…. It would make a huge difference rpi wise.

    But when it comes to scheduling gott is a proven master.

    Only thing I would like to see differently is for us to play unc-g @ Greensboro…. It would make a huge difference rpi wise.

    It would make a big difference when the game was played in Dec, but it won’t be that significant by the end of the year.

    Assumptions:
    2-2 neutral + 15-4 home + 7-4 road

    Adjust Winning Percentage:
    Those assumed results would give an adjusted winning % of 0.6820
    Moving UNC-G win to neutral site improves adjusted winning % to 0.6848
    If it counts as a road game, winning % to 0.6886

    RPI Formula:
    RPI = (WP * 0.25) + (OWP * 0.50) + (OOWP * 0.25)
    WP = Adjusted winning percentage
    OWP = Opponents’ winning percentage
    OOWP = Opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage

    If I’ve done the math correctly, that difference might mean a spot or two in RPI rankings. That’s probably not enough difference to get Debbie to give up the lost revenue.

    A lot of question going into the year (fewer than the last two but still some significant ones).
    1) Backup PG.
    2) Handling the press. We struggled last year, including Cat at times.
    3) Big men. We only have three. One has only been able to play limited minutes in the past and one has had a stress problem. I assume we will see some significant small ball Offensively it should be fine but how will it work on the defensive side? Foul trouble to Abu will be bad.
    4) Outside shooting. We hear Cat has improved, Henderson is an improvement over BSW and Maverick is great. We need at least two of these to be correct (or the twins become consistent shooters).
    5) Abu and Cat, do they break out this year? Someone needs to replace the scoring and leadership that left.
    6) Do we continue to have more of a focus on defense?

    Gott has been remarkably consistent and I would guess this will be a year similar to what we have had in the past under Gott. I had hoped for a jump this year but the early departures squashed most of those expectations for me.

    I’m probably being Naive, but with a JR heavy team I think we could run the NonCon table and enter the ACC regular season with a solid ranking. 1 loss would be acceptable. 2 is ok. 3 and we’re in our typical bubble talk. Let’s just not be a bubble team this year.

    Go State!

    1) My biggest concern. Supposedly Cody has been practicing there. I can’t decide if that’s a good or a bad thing. Maybe he can be the basketball team’s Jaylen Samuels.

    2) I rewatched the game at Louisville last year. I’m not particularly concerned.

    3) If TAFKAKH maintains his weight loss, I think he could break out this year. Lenard will be Lenard, no worries there. Abu is going to be a handful. You’ll see two of those three in the game 90% of the time.

    4) Cat is better and more confident. Henderson, I think is about the same as Turner, but isn’t injured so he should be an upgrade, if slight. Rowan I think might be a better shooter than both of them. The twins we don’t need to shoot 3s at all. It would be nice if they’ve improved, but with the guys around them, they’d be most valuable being their hyper aggressive selves out there wreaking havoc. I need to see Caleb murder someone with one of those full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes, tomahawk dunks he kept trying last year.

    5) Cat already broke out, he’ll be better this year. Abu sort of also broke out, but it was for like the last 5 or so games. He’ll be better also.

    6) We’ll be better on defense this year.

    6) We’ll be better on defense this year.

    1) It will be interesting to see how this works
    2) Who was breaking the press? Was it Cat? I honestly do not remember
    3) I think he brings Lenard along slowly. No reason to aggrevate the injury. It might be a good opportunity to see how small ball works as there will be times when we need it (foul trouble)
    4) Right now, only Henderson is really proven. We have a lot of possibilities. I hope/think a couple work out but we definitely need a couple of players to step up.
    5) Cat did take a big step forward but needs to do it all year. Also, it is a little different considering he is the “man” now and does not have Lacey to rely on. I disagree on Abu having already done it. I hope he does but, again, it is a big transition to being the “man”.
    6) I was not sure I would ever see it but we definitly played better D last year and I hope you are right about improving even further.
