If you were exhausted from Selection Sunday, or deep into bracketology research, you might have missed a striking exposé on the NCAA that aired on “Last Week Tonight.” The host, John Oliver, reminded us of the history and hipocrisy of the organization.
He discusses the immense about of advertising dollars spent during this time, and building lucrative college athletic programs, which the players never see a dime of.
The late-night host continued to torch the NCAA by delving into the small likelihood of athletes going pro, former Rutgers coach Mike Rice harassing his players, the Ed O’Bannon case hefty salaries of coaches, and more.
Of course, you can’t go on a full on rant about the NCAA shenanigans without at least mentioning UNC-Chapel Hill’s infamous academic scandal. It’s hard not to agree with Oliver’s logic on this one:
“Let’s not pretend that there isn’t something offensive about an African-American studies course being an easy major at that school,” said the quick-witted HBO host.
If you’d like a solid laugh at UNC’s expense, tune in to the 7:10 mark; but honestly the whole thing is worth a watch.
