Football recruiting is somewhat quiet right now but will pick up next weekend. Recruiting is currently in a dead period and next week is the first weekend that recruits can officially visit schools again. I will break down each position and player NC State is currently evaluating for #Pack15.
Jakobi Meyers is the lone target for The Pack at quarterback now as Kendall Hinton signed with Wake Forest yesterday and other target Daniel Jones from Charlotte, NC will grey-shirt at Duke. Meyers is a 6’0″ and 175 pound quarterback from Lithonia, Georgia. He is currently committed to Kent State as he had offers from Air Force, Marshall and Navy as well. Meyers thinks of himself as a throwing quarterback but has the ability to get out of the pocket and run when needed. NC State is still in the evaluating stage with Meyers as the coaching staff will go down after the dead period and talk with him. If The Pack offered Meyers, I would like State’s chance of landing him.
Running back is still highlighted by Johnny Frasier. Frasier is the big time remaining target for The Pack. Frasier is scheduled to officially visit Alabama next weekend and NC State the 23rd. Florida State or Duke could receive his last official visit on the 30th. There is no big news besides this on him but State is still in a good position with him. Adam Friedman from rivals feels good about State’s shot of flipping Frasier from Florida State. The Pack is trending for Frasier on 24/7 as well but 24/7 has been shown to be the kiss of death for NC State fans. 24/7 has been a let down for The Pack with Mike Hughes as well as Brian Chaffin were heavily projected to State from the crystal ball 24/7 uses. Please avoid 24/7 if you are a State fan. Former #Pack15 target Bryce Love from Wake Forest, NC will decide on January 30th from either Tennessee or Stanford. Look for Love to head out west to The Cardinal.
Wide receiver a couple of weeks ago was a done deal for #Pack15 but this has significantly changed. Wide Receiver coach Frisman Jackson is no longer on the coaching staff as George McDonald from Syracuse is the new coach at that position. McDonald is a very good recruiter as he is well known in South Florida more specifically in The Miami area. With Bo Hines and Marquez Valdes-Scantling transferring, The Pack will need to replace them in some kind of way. Brian Sessoms and Nyheim Hines to some degree are considered the wide receiver commitments for #Pack15 so far. Justin Smith is a 6’7″ wide receiver from Dublin Georgia who will visit officially visit NC State on January 30th. He currently has offers from Missouri and The Pack. Dominque Taylor is another wide receiver from Georgia Military College who is expected to officially visit next weekend. Vernon Grier who is currently committed to Charleston Southern is from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte and will officially next weekend as well. Grier has mentioned if State offers he will accept on the spot. Mallard Creek puts out players just like freshman Jaylen Samuels. Denzel Johnson from Columbia, SC is the last target at wide receiver as he is suppose to officially visit NC State on the 30th but Clemson might put a stop to this. He is expected to visit Clemson next weekend and a Clemson offer would most likely end any hope of getting Johnson.
Offensive line is mostly a done deal for The Pack with Emanuel McGirt, Aaron Wiltz, Philip Walton, T.J. McCoy and Daris Workman already on board. McGirt is the prize of the Oline class. McGirt is already easily one of my favorite players since he flipped from UNC. It gets even better since his parents and sisters went to Chapel Hill. Rob Dowdy has mentioned about visiting NC State later this month but there isn’t room for him most likely.
Defensive tackle is the last area of concern. Rumor is there is a defensive tackle that will be transferring to The Pack. Jason Strowbridge is currently committed to Kentucky but NC State is trying to get him on campus for a visit. He visited The Tarheels back in December but I think he stays with Kentucky. The other names are Javier Edwards and junior college player Darnell Thompson.
Parting Shots:
Supposedly Mike Hughes has not enrolled early at North Carolina. The coaching staff was still recruiting him after he picked The Tarheels. Hughes’ decision still surprised me as I felt like NC State was in a great position with him. If he indeed is not enrolled at Chapel Hill I can still see The Pack trying to flip him. Hughes will end up in light blue unless something drastically happened.
The first junior day for NC State will be January 31st.
Two late members from #Pack14 have enrolled this week alongside six members from #Pack15. Kicker Kyle Bambard and Punter A.J. Cole represent #Pack14. Riley Nicholson, T.J. McCoy, Freddie Phillips, Reggie Gallaspy, James Smith-Williams and Darian Roseboro represent #Pack15. The biggest news from this is Darian Roseboro enrolling after Michigan hired John Harbaugh. Once Harbaugh got the job at Michigan he immediately recruited Roseboro as Roseboro told him he was solid for State.
