N.C. State Wolfpack (11-5, 2-1) vs. Duke Blue Devils (14-0, 2-0) – 1:30 pm @ PNC Arena | TV: CBS

N.C. State gets another opportunity at a signature win today as they face Big Four rival Duke this afternoon. The Blue Devils are rated #2 in the AP & Coaches’ polls, and #6 in the RPI. A win today would greatly bolster the Pack’s NCAA Tournament resume and provide a huge boost to their RPI ranking, which currently sits at #48. The Pack gave a solid effort their last time out at Virginia, having opportunities late to steal a road win before ultimately falling short in their bid to garner a signature win.

Duke enters today contest with an impressive 14-0 record that includes wins over Michigan St., Temple, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Connecticut. Bolstered by a stellar freshman class, Duke has been every bit the match of #1 Kentucky this season. The Blue Devils’ ACC victories have come against Boston College and Wake Forest, with the Deacons giving a spirited effort before falling short. Wake was effective in slowing down Duke frosh Jahlil Okafor and shot well in the 2nd half, but Duke was still able to gut out a road victory. Duke may be in the middle of yet another special season in the Hall of Fame career of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. It will take a tremendous effort from the Pack and the home crowd  at the PNC in order to pull out a victory today.

As for the stripes, we know one ref who won’t be calling the game today … we’ll have to see what kind of response Karl’s cohorts have in store today 🙂

    FINALLY make some free throws down the stretch and we pull it out!

    Oddly enough, this was a better win than last years UNC game. We had control of that game up by like 24, but somehow let them get it back to 4 with 4 minutes left. TJ was unstoppable, though.

    I am completely drained. Need some coffee for my Broncos. A little pyrrhic, given that they have maybe a 1% chance in Foxboro, but I owe PeyPey my respectful attention.

    Love the swagger we had for this game. You would have thought WE were the #2 team in the country.

    Agreed, Bill. The real question isn’t this win, but what our energy and play will be like against the Asterisk on Wednesday. Gott again won the post-game interview by saying we have to maintain that level of play throughout the season. Wednesday to me, and I hope to the team, is a MUST-WIN!

    Especially the swagger by the bigs. When they start to play consistently the same as they did today then we are a much much better team and we can even understand what offense we are trying to run.

    I like this comparison. Fantastic court game today from Cody Martin – he was all over the court and just great out there. Really helped the team D today.

    Gonna be tough for them to not be at least somewhat flat on Wednesday night – let’s hope it doesn’t happen at all, but if it does hopefully they can snap out of it quickly. Another win on Wednesday would be ginormous.

    now coach is telling them… remember what this feels like and remember what it felt like to get to this point…

    Our bigs were giant today. They were not in Hooville.

    It’s almost like MG uses bad games as a learning/teaching experience. I really am starting to like him. No coincidence that Cat was the guy he singled out to embrace after the final whistle.

    I hope we double the post against the Cheaters. Our bigs are more aware of what’s going on when we do that. I can’t stop with Cody Martin. Fantastic floor awareness. knows when to go and when to hold up. He’s not afraid either

    Given the overall situation (ie, the time factor) in the game, I’ll have to disagree. It was time to kick it back out, reset, and bleed some clock; not force a shot in the paint against a bigger defender. And he wouldn’t have been fouled had the lane been open.

    But that’s how we learn.

    .. Beej && 87 … there’s no “almost” about it…

    Prior to this game Dook had only been behind 11 minutes in all their games and the biggest deficit they faced was just 6 points….

    Coach Rat sat on his hands for most of the second half, did not go to his bag of tricks, and left his young kids out on the floor to figure this one out for themselves…

    (what it takes, how far you have to reach deep inside yourself, to win a game when you’re down by 15-18 with 10 minutes left…)

    Because from the kids perspective “you can’t win this game… if you haven’t first lost this game…”
    and it’s much better to lose it now and to State than to xNC or sometime in March…

    First and foremost, this is a “player development and team building business” and that means sometimes you let them lose…
    Coach Rat does it, Uncle Roy does it, Gott does it… all the successful coaches do it… regularly…

    That’s what he thinking here…
    Some fans will find this hard to understand.
