Ordinarily I attempt to construct a game thread entry with a brief and fairly objective look at State’s upcoming opponent … A simple frame of reference for those who may wish to invest some time into an upcoming game and/or invest some time here at the site during a game. Usually, I’ll utilize a photo of an opponent’s mascot or some other fun-type photo as the featured image. The tone is, hopefully, light. Yay … Fun.
Please forgive my indulgence, but I’m not doing any of that today.
You see, in my opinion the program State is facing tonight deserves no photos, deserves no pomp or celebration, no part of a fun, yet fierce, friendly rivalry. Hell, as evidenced by the title of this post you can see that I don’t even believe they should be referenced by their proper title. Over the past few decades, that program State is facing tonight just up and threw all of that away. Their reasons are their own, but I’m sure you can guess.
It’s important to note that the team coming to Raleigh tonight has some good kids – and they are kids. Marcus Paige in particular comes across as a really swell guy. For my part, there is certainly no hate for anyone – least of all the kids on that team. After all, they were brought into a program by adults who made certain promises to them. Adults that have – as we now see – turned that program into something ugly. All that said, those kids and that team represent ‘that program’.
And what ‘that program’ deserves is a beating.
They so richly deserve it, especially from our long suffering group in Raleigh. Sure, it’s just one game – and State could very well lose. ‘Deserve’s got nothing to do with it’. True that. As we see though with recent news and happenings surrounding ‘that University’ – eventually in one way or another, one form or another, people will get what they deserve.
Speaking only for myself, I typically hope most involved directly with State athletics avoid online forums and message boards because hey – let’s face it: us fans can get a little wacky at times. That said, if someone from our program does happen to come across these words – here is a message from me to you:
Kick that ass.
