Assuming the SI report is true and George McDonald is leaving Syracuse to take the same position at NC State, I did a little researched to help us get better acquainted with our new WR coach.
– Syracuse insiders say that McDonald was one of their better recruiters. Most are confident that if he leaves they will lose some recruits as well. Recruits might not follow him but they won’t stick around if he’s not there either.
– McDonald was rumored (and some Gator sites “confirmed”it) to be heading to join McElwain’s staff at UF but apparently that report was a little premature.
Jeff Bertani, North Miami Beach HS coach and best friend of George McDonald, said "no truth" to Florida rumor. Spoke w/ George at 9 a.m.

Coach McDonald is a young, yet experienced coach, who has been an assistant for fourteen years. McDonald played his college ball at the University of Illinois from 1994-1998 as a wide receiver and kickoff return specialist.
Coach McDonald will add another young and hungry coach on the recruiting trail and as we’ve seen you can never have too many of those.
Here is a timeline of McDonald’s coaching career.
2013-Present Off. Coord. (Interim) Syracuse
2011-2012 Wide Receivers Coach Miami
2009-2010 Wide Receivers Coach Cleveland Browns
2007-2008 Wide Receivers Coach Minnesota
2005-2006 Off. Coord. & WR Coach Western Michigan

McDonald was widely regarded as the team’s top recruiter with deep ties to South Florida could be even more damaging to the program’s effort to climb out of the cellar of the ACC’s Atlantic Division. NC State is in the same division.

McDonald’s arrival signaled a desire to run an uptempo offensive system that he hoped matched some of the top offenses in the country, like Texas A&M or Oregon.
