Update on #Pack15 Target Nyheim Hines

Coach Doeren, Coach Kitchings and Coach Canada with Nyheim and Nyah Hines last night during NC State’s in-home visit.

Last night NC State’s coaching staff had a in-home visit with major 4 star NC State running back target Nyheim Hines. For the most part head coaches don’t go on in-home visits but Coach Doeren made it a point to go in-home with Nyheim. That speaks volumes of how much NC State wants Nyheim Hines to join Pack15. Hines as mentioned before is a highly talented in-state prospect from Garner who is now ranked the 99th overall player in the country by rivals.com.

Hines’ season and impressive prep career ended last weekend against Wake Forest. He rushed for 6,242 career rushing yards and 126 touchdowns which are both school records. NC State was Hines’ fourth in-home visit this week as West Virginia, UNC and Wake Forest were in earlier to see him. He is planning to take a official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend. Hines has already visited NC State officially during The Boston College game and has had numerous unofficial visits to State. He recently took a official visit to Wake Forest during their upset win against Virginia Tech. Look for Hines to take a official visit to West Virginia in January as it could potentially come down to signing day for Hines’ decision. A critical part of Hines’ recruitment is his twin sister, Nyah as NC State plus Wake Forest have offered her a scholarship in track. NC State has done all it can with Hines and looks to be in a good position with him at the moment. If NC State could land Hines plus Johnny Frasier alongside Pack15 commit Reggie Gallaspy, there might not be a better running back class in the country.

I hope some of those RB’s can play D or catch really well or they will be getting a lot of bench time.

I had a thought similar to this then I looked at it from a different point of view.

Thornton is rumored to be joining the draft which leaves Dayes and 4th stringer, Nichols. We have one RB commit — Reggie Gallaspy. IMO Hines is a slot receiver who will be used in the jet sweep and other plays designed to use his speed. Frazier, if he elects to commit, is RB competition for Gallaspy. Yes it would be an embarrassment of riches but what a great problem to have.

What a problem! For the next 4 years to have Frazier and Gallaspy competing for RB time.

I had a weird thought. Is Love waiting to see if Hines commits? If Hines does commit, Love wouldn’t want his second choices knowing they were second choices and he commits wherever.

The guy I want is Hughes. Let him play both ways — corner and whatever. His Soph year he could be the running QB Doeren likes to have. I also could see him being the Reggie Bush of NC State without being on the take.

Forgot to mention Samuels. He’s our H back. Now let those O coaches design some stuff that puts the ball in his hands more often.

You’re right that Hines is the slot guy and would be used a lot like Dayes was used this year. Fraiser by all accounts is raw and not ready for RB snaps as a freshman as Gallaspy would be.

Pack16 is loaded with running backs in this state as well. Robert Washington & Kennedy Mckoy are guys that are high on State and highly rated 4 & 3 stars respectively. Then you add a guy like Moe Neal who just came out and said he loved everything about NC State and WOW. loaded. Neal is more of a WR in college FWIW.

We’ll have more on Love soon.

Hughes has recently said he wants to play both ways. So let him. He certainly wouldn’t be the first. Another poster on another thread (so it must be true, right?) commented that Hughes looked comfortable running the read option and could be the Wildcat that Canada would like to have. Yeah, yeah, I know. You never want to see the Wildcat again. Stop and think a moment: a legit passing threat, the extra blocker and Hughes’s speed and the Wildcat could be very interesting.

To answer the question, isn’t Jacoby (or whoever) a wasted player? No, absolutely not. Split him out and if the opp doesn’t honor him, throw to him. He can run, you know. His specialty seems to be faking LBs and DBs out of their supporters.

Hughes is a solid punter too. That could be a huge threat! He and Samuels back there on 4th down would drive teams crazy.

When we ran the fake punt, the punter and two blockers went one way and Samuels went the other with the ball. It’s entirely different threat with Hughes back there than Baumann or another punter.

And redcanine, thanks for speaking up. Football season ain’t over just yet. 😉
