NC State fans have been highly anticipating 4-Star Athlete recruit Mike Hughes’ college decision and tomorrow at 11am the wait will finally be over. Hughes will choose from NC State, Florida and UNC at a ceremony from New Bern High School and StateFansNation.com has the latest.
A source close to the situation in Eastern, NC was able to share with us a few tidbits that #WPN will love to read.
Hughes has generally kept to himself during the recruiting process and hasn’t tipped his hand one way or another as to which school he was leaning towards. Never was this more evident than in a recent Rivals video interview when asked about how likely it was that he would commit to NC State and he calmly responded “Pretty Likely.” The interviewer then followed up with the same question about UNC and Florida and the answers again were both “Pretty Likely.” Needless to say we’ve heard speculation over the last few weeks but it was exactly that, speculation. Only now were we able to get a little insight into the Mike Hughes recruiting process.
Once again, Coach Des Kitchings has done a magnificent job recruiting the state’s high-end talent. Des and Hughes have developed a wonderful relationship that folks close to the situation see as extremely important for this recruitment and it has been the difference maker separating NC State from Florida and UNC. Not only has Coach Kitchings bonded with Hughes but Coach Doeren and the rest of the staff have Hughes’s family pulling for NC State. It isn’t the first time we’ve heard it but the “family environment” that Coach Doeren has created around the program is really hitting home with recruits and recruit’s families. Hughes’ family is no exception.
[Update] Another factor playing into Hughes’ recruitment is the New Bern players already playing for State (Braylon Cherry, Josh Taylor) and a recent preferred walk-on addition, OL Duncan Musselwhite. Hughes’ undersized but uber-productive LB teammate Shamond Squires is also deciding tomorrow with NC State and UNC being considered for preferred walk-on position.
In the end, what happens in the mind of an 18-year old’s mind is anyone’s guess but we strongly believe that come 11am tomorrow morning, State fans everywhere will have a great start to their Mondays.
We will have a story when Hughes makes his decision but you can keep up with us on the Twitter @StateFansNation or say Hi to me @NCStateFootball.
