The 78th shrine bowl will be hosted this Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina as many NC State commits plus targets are participating in the game. NC State commits in this game consist of: Jarius Morehead, Reggie Gallaspy, Darian Roseboro, Emanuel McGirt and preferred walk-on Duncan Musselwhite. The remaining targets for The Pack in The Shrine Bowl are 4 star athlete Mike Hughes and 4 star running back Johnny Frasier. All of these players are from North Carolina.
Johnny Frasier has stood out as one of the premier players at The Shrine Bowl. #Pack15 commit Reggie Gallaspy is trying to bring Frasier with him to Raleigh. Gallaspy is a major talent at running back but is willing to take less caries if Frasier decides to run with The Pack. Gallaspy has been telling Frasier in practice how they will form a dynamic duo backfield at NC State if Frasier were to come. Frasier is looking to stay close to home as he is committed to Florida State at the moment but most likely that won’t be the case on signing day. He plans to take a official visit to NC State in January and maybe Duke or Alabama as well. Look for Frasier to decide sometime in January or potentially drag it out to signing day.
Mike Hughes announced yesterday that he will make his decision on Monday. Hughes is down to Florida, UNC and NC State as his last official visit was to The Tar Heels as he watched them get thrashed by The Pack, 35-7. If Hughes does commit to State, which seems likely, he would play cornerback for NC State. Hughes’ teammate from New Bern, Duncan Musselwhite will be enrolling next semester at NC State as a preferred walk-on as another teammate from New Bern could be doing the same. Sha’mond Squires has a preferred walk-on offer from NC State and UNC as well. If he commits and so does Hughes, that could be 5 players from New Bern on NC State’s football roster next year alongside Josh Taylor and Bra’Lon Cherry.
Nyheim Hines is not at The Shrine Bowl but NC State fans are anxiously waiting for his decision tomorrow at 3. Hines has been long considered a NC State lean as commit Darian Roseboro feels good about State’s position with him. Hines has been a kid the staff has recruited for awhile and has done everything they can with him. If Hines were to pick State, that would give The Pack two commits in The Top 100. NC State Football fans should be planning on enjoying their Friday afternoon as I am confident Hines will pick NC State.
Three names to keep in mind also with NC State are: Kendall Hinton, Mark Fields II and Rob Dowdy. Kendall Hinton was the main quarterback target for NC State for a long time. Hinton is currently committed to Wake Forest but don’t be surprised if NC State makes a run at him since former quarterback commit Austin King flipped to Indiana the other day. Hinton is also good friends with NC State commit, Emanuel McGirt. It is still unlikely Hinton ends up in Raleigh but something to keep an eye on. Mark Fields II recently decommited from South Carolina as he is top recruit in North Carolina out of Charlotte. Fields II is looking hard at Clemson and Texas but if NC State somehow doesn’t end up with Hughes, I could see the coaching staff making a run at him. I still think NC State gets Hughes but you never know in recruiting. Rob Dowdy has been on the radar for awhile now but might be hard to take since Aaron Wiltz jumped on the scholarship before Dowdy did for the potential last offensive line spot. Dowdy announced his decommitment from Pittsburgh last night. With scholarships being so limited right now, I don’t think NC State could take him but he is considering The Pack and West Virginia at the moment.
