Q: What happens at NC State when a group of players anonymously destroy property with BB guns?
A: They get suspended for a huge ACC football game.
Q: What happens at UNC-CHeats when a group of players deface the property of a fellow ACC member institution while wearing UNC uniforms and while in the capacity of representing the University?
Exuberant over its first win over Duke since 2011, North Carolina left significant damage to Duke’s facilities that will likely exceed $25,000, causing the school to apologize and foot the bill for repairs.
According to sources at both schools, light blue spray paint caused “significant” damage to the visiting team locker room in Duke’s Brooks Practice Facility as well as the adjacent Field Turf practice field. Both are adjacent to Wallace Wade Stadium, which also had some areas spray painted following UNC’s 45-20 win on Thursday night.
Interior and exterior walls in the locker room as well as the carpet were painted. The letters “UNC” were also painted on a wall next to a door entering the facility and elsewhere in the locker room.
The Tar Heels agreed to pay for the damages. No players will face discipline for the incident, Fedora said Monday. Cunningham and Fedora also released a joint statement through Best.
None of this represents any kind of surprise to anyone who has followed the double standard under which the folks who criminally perpetuated “The Carolina Way” for the last 50 years. Most of SFN’s readers are old enough to remember the days before social media where, if we were lucky enough to learn of transgressions, we all knew that the ‘discipline’ doled out was going to be ‘dealt with internally’ and that was going to be the end of the story because God forbid that the media would criticize or report about it.
Could you imagine if King Rice beat up a woman on Franklin Street in the politically correct age of 2014? Even Saint Dean Smith might receive a little criticism for never sitting Rice for a single play of a single game.
This topic was originally posted in this thread on our message boards that is definitely worth reading since it contains some language and comments that I don’t want to include here.
On-topic: They just don’t even care. They’re above everything and everyone. Tends to happen when there’s zero consequences to your words and actions.
And Red Bull (Fedora) apologized? I’d actually be shocked if he didn’t instigate the whole ordeal. The guy just screams “I AM A HUGE F***ING DOUCHE.”
Too bad that Evil is likely to win again this coming weekend … that’s ok though, they certainly “earned” it with all that cheating and all.
Also, for possibly the first time ever the comments following an internet article are pretty funny:
“After spray painting the Duke locker room, will the UNC football players receive 3 credits for art?”
“Surprised that the UNC players could read the instructions on the spray paint cans.”
– “They had a tutor travel with them in case this emergency arose.”
– “Doesn’t the special African American Studies curriculum at UNC cover graffiti and graffiti removal?”“UNC staying classless as usual.”
God I wish I had a video or picture of the incident from ~20 years ago when UNC players destroyed Duke’s inflatable helmet at Wallace-Wade Stadium. The characters may change; but the (lack of) character remains the same.
