If you missed it live on SFN then you can click here to see Coach Gottfried at the ACC’s Operation Basketball. He does a great job, as usual.
Gottfried appeared on Adam Gold and Joe Ovies’ radio show on 99.9 FM just before taking the podium in Charlotte. He again did a great job talking about this year’s team as well as talking about NC State being a great job. During the interview, Gold and Ovies gave Coach the opportunity to discuss this (suddenly new) idea of coaches separating themselves from the lives and academics of their players. You can tell what I think of that topic in the following tweet from this afternoon…
Where the HELL did this 'separation of academics & athletics' come from?INSANE. 100% OPPOSITE of what UNC BOG & NCAA always stood for.

…so, you can imagine how happy I was when Coach Gottfried knocked the conversation out of the ballpark by not accepting such insanity and turning the situation to his advantage when he said the following:
Gottfried: When I go into a home [to recruit], I make a commitment to make him better academically, athletically and socially. Coaches care.

I loved it so much I tweeted the following in real time:
@Mark_Gottfried NAILING the question about being involved as a coach and removing coaches from academics on 99.9! GREAT WORK!

Juxtapose this with the philosophy of John Swofford, and UNC-Cesspool and Larry Fedora’s view on coaching and you’ve got the makings of something beautiful.
