For those of you who may not have been stalking the GoPack.com football roster if you click on over you’ll see a boatload of changes. Some expected, some not.
Who’s Out:
WR – Charlie Hegedus
DB – Marchez Coates
OL – Cam Fordham
FB – Logan Winkles
DT – Carlos Gray
RB – Josh Mercer
QB – Manny Stocker
While Hegedus, Stocker and Coates were already widely known to be leaving the program, the additions of Fordham, Gray & Mercer to that list might sting a little. Gray was in the DL rotation this year showed some promise for Coach Nielsen’s group delivering 2.5 sacks and 23 tackles. Fordham was the offensive lineman who transferred to Raleigh from LSU. And, we only heard positive things about Mercer and his speed from the scout team reports during his redshirt season. Lastly, Winkles missed the season with an injury.
There are also some notable inclusions to the roster which is mostly related to the #Pack14 early enrollees.
Who’s In:
WR – Bo Hines (#Pack14)
DL – BJ Hill (#Pack14)
C – Tony Adams (#Pack14)
WR – Stephen Louis (#Pack14)
LB – Germaine Pratt (#Pack14)
RB – DJ Hunt (Transferf from WVA)
OL – Terrone Prescod (#Pack14)
Former minor league baseball player / UNC commit turned NC State LB commit Ty Linton previously appeared on the roster but is currently unlisted for whatever reason.
DJ Hunt is an interesting addition as redshirt sophomore. He’s a Raleigh kid and Leesville Road’s all-time leading rusher. He transferred in from West Virgina this fall and should be able to play this season. He’s a big back with a bit of speed who had a great fall with the scout team and could serve to help cushion any depth issues in the backfield if (God forbid) Shadrach Thornton makes more mistakes that gets him into more trouble.
Also of note, Shad Thornton and Rob Crisp are still listed on the roster but that doesn’t define their futures. Thornton is still involved in a criminal investigation and Crisp is hoping to receive a medical redshirt for a 6th year of eligibility which would be huge for our offensive line.
