Wolfpack/Credit Union Game Thread

You may remember Florida Gulf Coast University from last year’s NCAAT run. Well, you at least remember their uptempo, innovative coach…and of course his smoking hot model/actress wife. Yeah, the move to Southern Cal was probably fine and dandy with her. Coach Andy and Coach Andy’s wife won’t be in Raleigh tonight, but they live in our hearts forever, along with the SFN “Credit Union” meme. TV is only ESPN3. Que lastima.

Let’s hope it’s at least a little better than 11/20’s unpleasantness.

^ That’s second only to the buttfumble.

Vandy helps by letting Washington play the 4. Much better flow with Cat running things.

The DoubleDouble commercials were outstanding as well.

^AW….Might watch your choice of words in front of the football bitches… you might give them ideas…..

^That Kevin Love commercial is funny … Stan Verett nails the ending.

“Staats Battle is the most Cardinal Gibbons’ish looking person ever.”

Well, he went to Ravenscroft, so you’re not far off.

    Speaking of stereotypes….

TeufelWolf, “Lighten up Francis.” Man, you fit the stereotype perfectly…nuff said…

Nahhh, Teufel has his opinion and it’s a good one to a certain point. We shouldn’t be outright insulting our own players (and I have been guilty of that) but at the same time, you can bet that the banter among team-mates is rougher than WBS and King Hippo.

Tonight JV was the difference maker. Anya look good but still a bit short on conditioning – I see good things ahead. Cat was very good minus a few freshman gaffes. Lewis, as much as I like him, was physically out classed by credit unions starting PG. I think Gott’s choice for the starting lineup was a good move.

A bit less stressful when your opponent doesn’t score 41 points from the foul line.

I don’t mind that, and actually agree about degrading players or giving them unwanted nicknames.

I just don’t care for the “tough guy Marine” and “I’ll have my Marine knock you out if you don’t think like I do” mentality.

And I’ve known alot of ’em…

^This. My friends and I call each other ‘nicknames’ all the time … That said, I deplore booing and/or disparaging college athletes. I can only say for my part that calling the players by fan site nicknames means nothing hateful or disparaging from me. I’m sure it’s the same for just about everyone else who posts here. When I’m watching a game, these are ‘my guys’ (not the best way to put it, but whatevs).

    Anyway, non-starter.

In an email snit with some lackey at ESPN over the crappy video.

The answer – cpu load, bandwidth issues, blab, blab.

As for me I have broadband via FIOS and a “fat pipe”, CPU load less than 50% and all other internet using stuff turned off. Plus I watch a lot of streaming video from many sources and only have issues with ESPN. Here’s your sign.

And hey, none of us threatened to shit in anyone’s mouth. 😀

tractor57, I would say that the problem is not on your end…the only issue could be Flash but that’s really reaching. I think it is ESPN’s problem.

Staats Battle did not go to Ravenscroft, he went to Broughton High School as did Chris Brickhouse

Teufel, chill man. Real players don’t give a rat’s ass about you or anybody else in the fan community. Trust me on this.

I’m gonna stick with the Patrick Wallace Braveheart (Bravethree) theme til it catches on.

Patrick Wallace consumes opponents with fireballs from his eyes and scores threes by shooting them out of his arse.

Don’t look now, but he Fighten’ Archies of Dayton taking it to 18th ranked Baylor in Maui thus far.

  19. tractor57 11/26/2013 at 10:18 PM #

Alpha since I have no issues watching the football mess via ESPN3 I do think you are right. I would have switched to radio tonight but the local outlet is AM and they cut power at dusk – no streaming of the feed either.

They be the Dayton Flyers, young man.

When I was in high school I told Cedric Simmons he looked like a caveman, and called him Unfrozen Caveman Baller (ala Phil Hartman). Then he dunked two balls at one time on me in a game of 21. I don’t know where that story is going, but then I found five dollars.

  23. MrPlywood 11/26/2013 at 10:44 PM #

Probably already said earlier, but I was impressed that the Archies took down the Zags last night. They’re Flyin’ in Dayton.

And good for Jordan, I’ve been on the Vandwagon for a while.

Comments from the game…..got home and got the GK’s nestled in bed for their short nap….and they will be up at the crack of dawn.

There was a bit of “uneasiness” in the first few minutes. Then things settled down. From a fans’ perspective, there was probably less than 25% there. Dismal….even during Turkey week.

The pace of the game was very ragged. YES, there were moments of excitement. But, it was almost “Ho Hum” for a while. You would watch a while and next thing you knew, between foul shots, we kept gaining points or the Delta kept getting larger.

Vandy was almost in total control the entire night. He made a few moves that we have not seen….ever….in him.

He also was a little slow. The radio guys talked about him running like a deer…..but I envisioned my Green Deere as he did not make it back down the court on several possessions.

NOW, with that little criticism….he was otherwise AWESOME. His just being in the paint caused the FGCU guys to stop or get of sync or just “alter” their shots.

Fouls were horrible. Kersey seems to know that they had not called their quota and slowed things down.

TJ was every superlative you could come up with. Hitting 6 of his last 7. He was a force in the beginning and every time he was on the floor, FGCU seemed to be addled.

Cat looked good. NOW, he is a freshman. BUT, I think that has been taking “assist” lessons from Whitt. He seems to say….”OK”, how can I score and then if it is not there, he looks to distribute. Now THAT is a bit harsh. He is QUICK. He did get his pocket picked a few times. BUT, he was good and he will get better.

Don’t know anything about Lewis and PT. Gott talked last night about “competition” at the PG….I guess that Lewis failed a few tests…..Lewis was not very effective in the first half….but what can you do with about 3 minutes.

He was more of a handler and distributor in the second, but again, his PT was down.

Finally…..BJ, AKA….the BEAST. Our section will yell BEEF or BEAST. NOW, having watched him since the first exhibition where Vandy went down. He has dropped, NOTICEABLY, a lot of weight. He is STILL massive, but he has a LOT less fat jiggling around. He actually did run some tonight. I realize that your feeds were crappy….but BJ did show flashes of being a really good Vandy send in.

Vandy also did NOT attract whistles….which is something he has been prone to.

All in all, after hearing the ESPN guys jawjack last night and doing a little personal research on FGCU, I thought it would be very close and that we look a bit “disoriented”. I would not have surprised me if we were down 10 at the half….but I thought we could pull it out.

So much for my BB prognostication. There was NEVER, EVER any doubt about WHO was the dominant team…

Maybe it was the BIG Man and the QUICK Man that caused Joe Dooley’s game plan to die after 4 minutes….

We were up by 7 points, but the way the game tempo was, you never had any sense of a RUN or Domination….you had to keep looking at the score of the delta to understand what was happening.

NOW, that is MY opinion….and I know that no one paid or will pay for my comments….

Really feel good…..but we have had great nights before and then looked like Battle’s JV team…..

I really wish that Patrick Wallace could get a little more rotation. That boy shoots with Wood’s confidence and seems to understand that D is essential.

    DEATH TO THE TWERKS….

NOW, Low and Behold, the “CAN DO NO WRONG” Flyers are starting to lose altitude…..

Down 1 with 12.8 to go….but they got the ball…..OPPS….There goes the Key to the city of Dayton….Baylor just kept working on it….and they played better D at the end….

However, Dayton WILL be a force to be reckoned with….
