Sometimes, You Just Have To Laugh: A Wolfpacker’s Recap of BC-NCSU In Animated GIFs

They say a picture is worth one thousand words, but sometimes a picture is worth a good laugh.  When someone posted a link to the “Air-Balled Free Throw’s” recap of yesterday’s NC State at Boston College game, I got the latter: a great laugh.  You have to see it for yourself, and maybe it will give you too a nice chuckle.  Below are the first couple of panels, and it gets progressively better and better as the author tells the story of the action from a fan’s perspective, all in pictures:

@WXMoose always a has some giftastic recaps and this season has been particularly hilarious. And you’re right, sometimes you just gotta laugh.

We had lotsa laughs here yesterday, and I still feel all jovial today. Like I said, we Wolfpackers are all in the “acceptance” phase of suck grief by now.

Much easier to watch games with no expectation of a win. I hate that I was a prophet but when we lost to Wake I made the comment we could most certainly lose out. Yep. We were that bad and we remain so.

Amid all the hilarity of a season to forget, what we haven’t had here on SFN is a lot of stirring the pot: you know, wolfpack brethren sharing their honest opinions about a football season that is hard to accept, & other wolfpack brethren calling them ‘idiots’ (or worse). Well, I will step up & hazard this abuse – but not in the way you might expect…

While NCSU is experiencing 1 of the worst gridiron seasons in perhaps half a century, we of the Red & White allegiance are also in the midst of 1 of the most astonishing college football seasons in probably the same time span being produced by our redneck brethren to the south. Florida State is not-so-quietly having a mammoth season; even by their lofty standards, & when I say mammoth I’m talking for the record books. For starters, let’s look at their results in conference games only:

    Pitt W 41 – 13
    B.C. W 48 – 34
    (25) UMD W 63 – 0
    (3)Clem W 51 – 14
    NCSU W 49 – 17
    (7)Miami W 41 – 14
    Wake W 59 – 3
    ‘scuse W 59 – 3
    Total 411 – 98

And no, the last 2 entries are NOT a typo – FSU scalped their last 2 conference opponents by an identical fifty-six point margin (or, a combined 112 points); their total points scored in conference games is more than 4 times what their ACC opponents mustered – an average of over 50 points/conference game to only 13.5 for their victims. And if you throw out the B.C. game (I don’t know why, it just looks like an outlier), that avg. climbs to 52 points to NINE… A difference of 43 points a game.. Folks, that just isn’t fair – that’s like the adults beating up on the special needs kids.

What’s that you say? “We’ve seen all this before.. remember Bobby Bowden? The 90’s? When FSU joined the ACC & beat us all like red-headed step-children??” Well, yes, & no. I remember some Seminole beat-downs handed out, but isn’t the ACC better now? (Our commissioner would tell you it is). Someone remind me, did FSU of the roaring 90’s ever beat TWO top ten ACC teams in the SAME season? Did Bobby go into Death Valley & hang 51 on the #3 tiggers while only giving up 2 scores? That might be the most remarkable game in a historically remarkable year. And this FSU isn’t doing it only w/ offense. They aren’t doing it because of a probable Heisman Trophy candidate sexual assailant – as the media would have you believe – they are doing it w/’D’. Their high-powered offense is only (ONLY) 9th in the nation while their defense ranks 4th, & they lead all BCS teams in turnover ratio.

Don’t get me wrong – I still love my Wolfpack; I live and die as the teams I follow live and die (mostly dying these days, @ least on the football field). But I’d like to think I know an exceptional team when I see 1 – & I believe this FSU squad may be historically exceptional. The Pack, for their part, did score the 2nd-most on them in conference, while holding them to a point under their avg. But this FSU team may be “1 for the ages”. The Seminoles are likely 3 victories away from locking up a spot in the BCS championship game – & I know miracles happen (don’t they, Buster Douglas?) – but I just don’t see it. I think FSU is the only team in the nation that can beat Alabama – that includes you, Auburn. Not that they WILL if they get the opportunity, but they are the only team that CAN. Everyone else lacks the substance to go with their style.

The refs didn’t get the memo that we suck. During our first score, the ref said he stepped out then the replay showed his feet were about a foot or more high off the ground then we have to review a catch in the redzone that was “close” to the ground then that replay showed the ball was a foot or more off the ground.

The refs are terrible… The one that really gets me is the touchdown where the ref is RIGHT ON THE LINE a few feet away and he said he stepped out. Tell me that ref wasn’t trying to screw us over on that one. Of course, we do a great job screwing ourselves but that call never should have been made by that one ref. Tendencies I guess

  7. Wulfpack 11/17/2013 at 6:36 PM #

I agree, and do think FSU will give Bama fits, and could definitely win. I knew when I saw Jameis for the first time this year that he was already special.

As for your points about us, I think most fans understand the state of the program that Doeren inherited, and that is why we are able to accept this year’s horrendously historically bad results. It doesn’t excuse the poor play and some poor coaching decisions, it’s just that we all knew we were in trouble from the get go. We should have still been able to win a conference game ot two, but do we really care at this point? It really means squat in the grand scheme of things.

Nkw go another season with these type results and yea, DD is going to hear it. And Yow will be the first one in his office. Not saying he doesn’t make it to a third season but he will be feeling the heat big time.

Didn’t mean to hijack your post, brother Alpha – just thought I needed to point out an obvious fact.. We’re in the midst of some mean mojo pigskin comin’ outta Florida..

I needed the laugh, & I had 1. Thanks for sharing!

  9. MrPlywood 11/17/2013 at 7:58 PM #

It’s good to be able to poke fun at yourself. It’s also good to be able to laugh at the Holes who dropped a game to Belmont today. Hilarity all around!

  10. Alpha Wolf 11/17/2013 at 8:04 PM #

Don’t worry about any hijack, DC. I agree, the Noles are having an incredibly special season, and could well win it all.

Alabama still has to get past Auburn, which in my mind will determine whether Ohio State can once again scam their way into a title game they have no business playing in. Either one will face a tall order against FSU. If it is Alabama I give the nod to Saban’s team because he is a better coach than Fisher, but if it is Ohio State, I see the Seminoles rolling them up and smoking them like they are a fat doobie at a Dead show.

    ok///Belmont Beat Heels today.
in November. so what. if we
    continue to cite TarHoles
    then we continue to be
    in their shadow.

  12. Alpha Wolf 11/17/2013 at 8:31 PM #

^ Their fans certainly mention and track us, so your logic fails.

That’s the nature of a rivalry…you want your team to win and you want to enjoy any misery from the other side. Do you think that Auburn doesn’t care about or mention Alabama? Do you think Michigan fans never mention Ohio State? Think that Manchester United fans don’t ever think about Liverpool and/or Chelsea?

  13. WolfBlood86 11/17/2013 at 8:53 PM #

Notre Dame loses to Indiana State by freaking 13 points.

  14. Alpha Wolf 11/17/2013 at 9:05 PM #

AP poll moves up Baylor, Ohio stays third in the BCS, but tOSU fans are predictably butthurt.

    Speaking of laughing:

I wonder if Roy had her tossed out.

  16. MrPlywood 11/17/2013 at 9:49 PM #

Haha – that’s right, the Holes lost in November. Any month is a good month for a Holes defeat. Any week. Any day. And when I see my local TarHole fan this Wednesday, I’ll cite it then, because I know it gets under his skin. Ahhhh, schadenfreude, the gift that keeps on giving.

  17. vtpackfan 11/17/2013 at 11:16 PM #

Not able to “cite” the reference but an ACC team shot 48 free throws and still lost to an Ohio Valley Conference team.

    Forty-eight.

  18. bamawolfpacker 11/18/2013 at 2:30 AM #

As a graduate of the Class of 88, currently living in Alabama, I just want to say that I think FSU will not have a chance against the Saban machine. They (Alabama) could probably beat the New Orleans Saints right about now. Actually becoming a big fan of SEC football, since the ACC has been in the toilet for so long.

  19. wufpup76 11/18/2013 at 2:49 AM #

^^vtpackfan beat me to it … 50 free throws and they lost. Unimaginable.

    Also sweet, sweet ecstasy.

  20. YogiNC 11/18/2013 at 9:20 AM #

I know this has probably been said here lately but… Can you imagine how much we would have sucked had we not had two NFL STAR quality QBs over the last 5 years? Maybe TOB would have been the first coach fired under Yow.

  21. rtpack24 11/18/2013 at 10:51 AM #

Ala weakness is against the pass. Tx A&M hung 42 on them. FSU has as good or better passing attack than A&M so I believe FSU can and will beat Bama. As far as how many points we scored on FSU is bogus since they were up 35-0 after the first qtr and were pulling starters before half time. We are not a good football team no matter how you screw with the numbers. Figures lie and liars figure.

  22. DC_wolf 11/18/2013 at 11:35 AM #

    Wake W 59 – 3
    ‘scuse W 59 – 3

“As far as how many points we scored on FSU is bogus since they were up 35-0 after the first qtr and were pulling starters before half time. We are not a good football team no matter how you screw with the numbers.”

Same is true for Wake & ‘scuse.. Jameis may as well have come out in street clothes after halftime because all he did was watch. Not screwin’ w/their #s.. Wake & ‘scuse handled our bacon pretty well. I figure.

  23. Wulfpack 11/18/2013 at 12:10 PM #

FSU could have beaten us by 80. They called off the dogs early as others have stated.

Bama is obviously very good. So is FSU. It will be interesting to see how/if the Noles handle Florida. Florida stinks I know but still some talent. If I had to guess of an opening line, i’d think Bama would open up about a 3 point favorite. This one has the makings of a classic.

  24. rtpack24 11/18/2013 at 12:10 PM #

DC good points. Was not accusing anyone of lying just using an old saying about numbers.

  25. tuckerdorm1983 11/18/2013 at 7:29 PM #

I like DD and support him. I look forward to good things from him. His attitude is good and I like his energy. Ok this year is messed up with TOB taking a big dump on the program. Now DD is having to shovel sh$t and is up to his neck in it. A couple of good years recruiting will make us competitive again. Go pack.
