Potential Panic Button Thread (NC Central Leads at the Half)

Yeah, yeah, the announcers keep saying this is a “veteran Central team” – losing this game would be completely unacceptable, even in an unpredictable year.

Let’s hope we come out on fire and quell my nerves.

Ouch. Working late, got buzzed on the final score via text message. All due respect to the Eagles, you can’t lose to NC Central at home. Going to be a long season.

Not one, but TWO new episodes of The League tonight! South Park has gotten a bit uneven, but when it’s good, it’s still amazing.

Need to remember to dvr the Mr. Hankey episode to watch with the kids again this year.

  5. TheAliasTroll 11/20/2013 at 10:35 PM #

I used to like the league but it just got to the point where it was just kinda gross, so haven’t watched it this year

I’m a CHASS grad and in the process of getting my teaching license at NCCU. I have a couple classes tomorrow that I’m not looking forward to. I see the PG Pookie Chapman each day. There are a really solid squad and they would have put Cincy down earlier if Ingram hadn’t fouled out.

Oh well. Nothing good came from this except the knowledge that we are not going to beat up on anyone on our schedule this year. I say give the ball to Cat sooner than later so he can be as ready as possible come conference season. Lewis is an amazing back up point guard at this point in his career and maybe the possibility of having to play off the ball will get the notion out of his head that he is Bob Cousy.

So what will be the first change? Gott or DY for the revenue dumpster fires?

  8. Wufpacker 11/20/2013 at 11:20 PM #

^ I think it’s a bit too soon to be headed down that road just yet.

Having said that, should Gott turn out to not be ‘the guy’, I suspect it won’t take DY long to pull the trigger when it becomes appropriate to do so.

  9. wolf71 11/20/2013 at 11:22 PM #

Why would/should she get another shot?

  10. Wufpacker 11/20/2013 at 11:53 PM #

Well again, this is going from the angle that Gott has been an abject failure and should be replaced now. I don’t agree with that, thus I can’t really reason my way around to defending Yow on a poor hire, because I don’t yet think it was a poor hire necessarily.

But, IF he needs to be replaced, I’d say that I’d trust her based upon her total body of work since arriving in Raleigh.

Ruxins choir was amazing! Best show on tv.

Early over reactions are to be expected, calling for DYs head was not. I must be getting old, you people sound ridiculous.

Was at the game. If you want some things to complain about…then here they are…

Crowd behind (the PRIME sections where I would have had to coughed up $100K in 2006 to get 2 LTR’s) was maybe 75% full. The opposite side was only 50%. Fortunately, the cameras were over there.

The calls were TOTALLY inconsistent. The officiating team was confused on WHO fouled…..and WHOSE ball it was. They looked like the geniuses that designed the ObamaCare site. 45 trips for NCCU and 33 for NCSU…..total of 78. Better bring PJ’s & Toiletries when King Karl calls a game. FT’s will top 100 and the Drummer from the Pep Band will be on the court.

Most folks by mid first half were pecking away on their phones and complaining about coverage and signal strength….Students were the ONLY ones “consistently” into the game.

I have been busy catching up on some projects….NOW it is ALMOST a full moon…..so that be the problem….

Fire Gott? Fire Debbie? Even the mentally disabled board monkeys on the IC board were not (I am told), calling for Roy and Bubba’s heads……after the Belmont loss. No one in Dookie-Doo-Ville was calling for Mikey’s $7,000,000 HEAD when ECU almost did them in at Cameron….again, so I was told.

NCCU ALMOST beat Cincy……and they beat us. The 3 Pt by a WALK-ON almost started a comeback not seen in over 30 years (remember Pepperdine?)

CHILL or whatever the Tweet equivalent…..

The sun WILL come up tomorrow. Gott wll be UNHAPPY and the team will improve.

Coach D probably got a small reprieve…but unless he has some magic (PED’s is NOT magic), it will be a LONG Saturday…..and Fischel says the BOTTOM will fall out about the time the game is over…

Not happy about tonight….but NOT out with Pitch Forks. NCCU ran a good plan. We were inconsistent….calls were even MORE inconsistent….

    Good Night….

    UPDATE…..

Just re-read the stats…..Jamie Luckie was calling it…didn’t recognize any of the OTHER Z’s, but JL is a “make sure I am seen” Ref…..right up there with TV Teddy Valentine and KK and his lackies….NO WONDER….

Is it me or was that a free throw shooting contest with some up and down the court in between tries?

This kind of basketball with the referees calling every touch is just about unwatchable. NC Central is a very good, very veteran team. They certainly looked superior to Cincinnatti.

Ralston Turner was so out of sorts the whole game. He clanged just about every shot he took. After we lost Warren and Lee, there was almost nobody left to score except Barber and Lewis. NCC played great defense.

For you guys who think we stink and should fire somebody, back away from the edge. State has to be one of the youngest teams in the NCAA and Ralston Turner plays like a freshman. We will get better. The chemistry will come.

  14. Wulfpack 11/21/2013 at 6:03 AM #

We were outrebounded 37-30, and shot 3 of 20 from three. Central was 41 of 45 from the stripe. Only 9,754 saw the game.

Quote of the night from Gott:

“I think we’re going to get good, we’re not there obviously right now.”

  15. wolf71 11/21/2013 at 7:07 AM #

Tired of hearing about being young in basketball. In today’s game, teams are winning with freshman and sophomores if they are good. Either they can play or not, either the coach can coach or not. Same issues with Gott today as others have questioned since he arrived. Rebounding, in game adjustments, defense, etc.

    Dear NCSU athletics:

I think it’s time we start seeing other people. It’s not you, its me. OK, not really. It’s you and all your broken promises. I can kinda forgive you for a lousy football season, but going 0-7 in conference has never been done EVER by any NCSU football team and we’ve been playing that sport for over 100 years. Tonight was the last straw. Losing to NC Central at home with multiple McDonald’s All Americans on the floor playing for you is beyond embarassing. It’s program defining bad. No team that has 2 national title banners and 10 ACC conference banners should EVER lose at home to NC Central, but you managed to do just that. I’ve made excuses for you and supported you through all your multiple rebuilding phases over the last 20+ years, but there’s only so much I can tolerate.

Maybe one day when you grow up and figure out what you want to do in life our paths will cross again. But for now, I gotta find a less $#!tty program to be a fan of for a while. I just can’t take it any more.

  17. coach13 11/21/2013 at 7:19 AM #

Excuses. Assuming we are stuck on the 3 recruits commited, we will not make the NCAA this year, next year or likely the year after. Please, mention attendance for NCCU in an oversized arean again. And Duke came close but did NOT lose to ECU. The only ACC team with that dubious honor is still….well, take a guess.

  18. Pack1997 11/21/2013 at 7:37 AM #

I find it funny, the majority of you knew this year was going to be tough in basketball and football, yet you complain. I have seen nothing that makes me call for one of the coaches heads. For bball, big man just do not develop well when they are Freshman. Unless they are a freak talent, it takes at least a year to adjust the college game. We don’t have solid bigs yet which means rebounding and defense are going to be terrible. The key is to see if they develop throughout the season to be solid for us next year. There are very few teams that can replace what we lost last year right away. We are not nor have we ever been one of those teams.

  19. Rick 11/21/2013 at 7:52 AM #

I agree, how can we possibly expect to beat the basketball powerhouse that is NCCU when our team is so young. I mean we only have THREE McD AAs. We need to be patient and let Gott get the talent that he needs. I say give him 7 more years and then we can see what kind of coach he is.

I am not sure what is more funny. The “fire everyone” or the “everything is great, nothing to see here” folks. There are obviously problems with boht our athletic department and our basketball team. To deny that is head in the sand stupid.

  20. Wulfpack 11/21/2013 at 8:00 AM #

Gott didn’t do much of anything with what he had last year anyways, so what makes anyone think he can when the horses get here? How is it all going to mesh? What’s the plan?

  21. Pack1997 11/21/2013 at 8:25 AM #

I am not denying there are problems, however we are replacing seniors and juniors with freshman. These guys have not had an opportunity to learn to play together. So what we lost to NCCU. For all we know they are a top 100 team this year. We have all been State fans long enough to be use to this.

  22. TLeo 11/21/2013 at 8:36 AM #

Come on folks…step away from the ledge. A group of freshman and sophomores had a bad game against a good team with more experience. Ga. Tech also lost last night….to Dayton . It’s not the end of the world!

  23. TheAliasTroll 11/21/2013 at 8:39 AM #

Good and even great teams get upset in college basketball. It’s the nature of the game. Not too worried about it except when I have to be at the water cooler the rest of this week.

  24. MattN 11/21/2013 at 8:54 AM #

Dayton is actually a good team. No, really, they’re quite solid. Look at their record against major Div-1 schools the last 7 years. They’ve won their last 5 games vs. ACC teams. We can’t say that.
