November 9 Non-Dumpster Fire Football Thread

We have to wait until 4:00 EST (ESPNU) for our weekly ass beating. Duke is a 9-10 point favourite. Duke football! The 3:30 window is loaded with sh-t games, so you won’t miss much wallowing in black humour with your SFN buddies.

Speaking of football, I promised my (mostly British) cohorts on my regular Everton message board that I would use extra “u”s in my words all week, as penance for apparently saying “the most American thing ever” in last weeks EFC/Tottenham game thread. NBC Extra Time has you (ok, just me) covered for today’s hopefully drama-free fixture with bottom feeder Crystal Palace (10:00am).

Early on, I will mostly follow two potential SEC trap games – Mizzou at Kentucky (noon, ESPNU) and Aubie at Tennessee (noon, ESPN). Hopefully, something unexpected crops up in the likely event they both crap out.

To be honest, the late window is not much better, at least volume-wise. I will probably watch Texas at West By God Virginia (7:00, Fox). This would be a nice spot for a Mack Brown team to implode, as a media-fluffed program that somehow has managed to stay unranked despite leading the Big 12ish at 5-0. But today is really all about LSU at Alabama (8:00, CBS), regularly one of my favourite games of the year. People really hit hard in this one. Pulling hard for Bama, as FSU and Roll Damn Tide is easily the best possible title matchup. And f-ck Ohio State, with their dogshit conference and even weaker schedule.

Insomniacs can enjoy UCLA at Arizona (10:00, ESPN), which will be very important in deciding who Stanford gets to pound like a veal in the Pac-12 championship game.

Clutch drive by LSU. Good football game, and pressure back on Bama.

Patton Oswalt also was great in a minor role (gun/Army surplus store owner) on Bored to Death.

Nice statement drive by Bama to go back up 24-17. Good football from these two. WVU and TX going back and forth.

    40-40, OT in Morgantown.

‘Bama has put the game away in Tuscaloosa. It looks inevitable that the national title game will be between FSU and ‘Bama, and some people think that ‘Bama will be the underdog.

No Nick Saban-coached team is the underdog in the national title, especially against a freshman QB and a coach who’s never been there.

If they somehow are an underdog, I will scrape together all the $$ I can gather to bet on Nick Saban.

I don’t think Mizzou or the Chickens can hang with ’em, so the Iron Bowl is the last hurdle for either team.

yep… the Iron Bowl is the next big game on the BCS countdown….

    Good night gentlemen.

Last week I thought I saw the worst call ever in college football when we tried a fake punt on 4th and 9 deep in our own territory hiking it to a linebacker early in the first half with the lead. So I am watching last night’s game and we are on our own twenty-five down only 7-0 with our defense playing well and we go for a first down on 4th and a long 1. This play was not the worst call which is above however it is in the same category. I believe there are 120 division 1 football teams and we have the only coach in the country that would call either one of these plays much less both of them.
