Happy Thanksgiving – All Weekend Sports Feast Open Thread

Screen Shot 2013-11-27 at 10.25.51 PMHappy Thanksgiving to you and yours from all of us here at Statefans Nation!  Hope you are enjoying the holiday weekend, that you get to spend time with loved ones and friends and of course get to watch some of the great sports action.  Chat about it here!

If you are driving long distance this weekend, here’s a recommendation for a smartphone application you might want to employ: Waze.  It’s a combination GPS mapping application, but comes with the added bonus of a social media component that can alert you about heavy traffic, wrecks ahead, and yes…patrolmen too.  The alerts about traffics and accidents are worth their weight in gold.

Here’s today’s sports major sports action:

Friday 11/29

Via The News and Observer. Games of special interest are highlighted in red.  The NFL is on hiatus for a couple of days, but we’ve got the chance to take a good look at some future hoops opponents, a good SEC tilt in football and two of our three regional pro teams are in action.  That, and the Pack’s Women’s Hoops team looks to continue their high-flying start this afternoon against Wright State in the Gulf Coast Showcase.  In toto, there’s plenty to keep us busy while our better halves go about their Black Friday shopping while we eat turkey sandwiches and sit in front of the television.

As much as I literally HATE Kelly Green, I am pleased to report that thing in Huntington seem to be under control. There will be NO follow-up “ARRRGH” purple graffiti billboards in NC (or WV for that matter).

Around 1:15 or so, when a Marshall player ran back a Punt and scored, the monitors recorded seismic activity. When it was called back, there was an aftershock greater than the eruption….the Marshall coach exploded….ala Herbie and the microphone….

They just flashed up the beginning of Q4. Thought maybe the time would be 10:00 rather than 15:00.

Lady Wuffies are ahead of Wright State, but the Ref’s are getting paid by the fouls.

24 – 16…..up by 8. about 12 min to go in half….and BOTH teams are in the bonus…..the OAT is worried about catching their plane home as the tempo, due to the tweeting, is really slow.

Still watching Marshall massacre with audio muted. UGLY

FOOTNOTE….Wes’ record is now 6 & 1. Got out of hand a bit, but they still kept fighting….

Herd is up 52-20 on ECTC early in the 4th…congrats (so far) to one of our former assistants Doc Holiday.

Doc Holliday is good people…one of my favorite assistants Amato ever had.

  4. Wufpacker 11/29/2013 at 9:57 PM #

Wow, FSU almost hits the miracle shot at the buzzer. Fifty footer as time expired was unfortunately about fifty feet two inches.

    Gators survive by 1.

    Arizona 72 – Duke 66.

The Blue Devils are not as good as advertised, at least right now.

Mike Glennon has completed nearly 63 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and four interceptions in eight starts, becoming the first QB in NFL history to throw a scoring pass in his first eight games. Dang.

    Today’s first turtle joke….

A man enters his local bar holding a frog and an turtle. He sets them down on the bar and says to the bartender, “I bet you $1000 that my frog here can sing any song you can think of.” “Ok,” says the bartender. “How ’bout ‘Blue Moon’?” The man whispers something to the frog, and the frog starts singing blue moon. “That’s amazing,” says the bartender as he slaps down $1000.

“I’ll bet ya another $1000 that my turtle here can do that to.” “Ok, I can believe a frog, but not an turtle. You’re on. Have him sing the Star Spangled Banner.” The man whispers something to the turtle and it sings the Star Spangled Banner. As the bartender hands over another $1000, a businessman comes up and says, “I just saw that and I was amazed. I want to buy your turtle for $100,000.”

The man said ok, and he exchanged the turtle for the money and the businessman left. The bartender said “What are you nuts?! You could have made millions with that turtle!”

The man said “Oh, the turtle can’t sing. The frog’s a ventriloquist.” HAHAHA!!!

Anyone know where a pro nc state sports bar is located here in Wilmington?

For pre-live sports entertainment, I highly recommend Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth. One man show, and you can see all facets come out live (childlike vulnerability, self-depricating humor, and being scary as f-ck).

    Go Noles
    Go Blue Devils
    Go Buckeyes
    War Damn Eagle

    Go Pack

Well, the sun came up….maybe it will be a better day.

Do not want to speculate about MD….except I don’t feel as apprehensive….which is what JFK said about his Dallas trip….

KU tried to breathe a WHEW-U….but Mr. Wright and company from Vandy land prevailed.

Total of about 45 fouls called by Mr. Luckie’s crew…..this crew has reffed 34 games….not necessary as a crew and tweeted 17 Tech’s.

It is really discouraging when you see the ref’s telling the bench that the TO is over….and you say….”I KNOW that Zebra….”

SO Mr. Luckie was there….he looks like a slightly, to me, younger KH Twin…..I will not comment on a woman’s right to choose….BUT….

Tickets are being offered like alcohol to potential voters. Even the Vaughn Tower seats are being passed around….but at least we will have a few fans there. N&O says StubHub has them for $7…..and that is what you have to PAY someone to take them….Just KIDDING….

It is NOT raining and the temps will not be in the 30’s…..

GO PACK….Please, PLEASE…..if there is a God, do NOT send Ron Cherry, for either team’s sake, to this one….as well as to the Dookie…..UNC bash.

I predict that the Duke players will be huffing aerosol fumes after the game….as they paint the BELL dark BLUE….or maybe that will only happen in my dreams.

Suck it holes. You are what you are -a .500 team at best.

  13. BJD95 11/30/2013 at 4:38 PM #

    Come on, Roll Damn Tide!!!

Cheering against a tOSU title game appearance, more than anything.

  14. BJD95 11/30/2013 at 4:52 PM #

Sending this one back to the top, especially with some unfortunate nonsense in the game thread. Feel free to discuss tonight’s cupcake hoops contest here as well.

Announcers were right, Bama came out tight as a snare drum. But they have adjusted. They are one helluva program.

  15. redcanine 11/30/2013 at 5:18 PM #

That guy has one crazy-ass b for a wife.

  16. BJD95 11/30/2013 at 5:51 PM #

Saban is up 7 at the half, on the road against the #4 team in the nation. And he’s PISSED. That’s a program with expectations for ya.

  17. Wulfpack 11/30/2013 at 6:33 PM #

Looks like this one is going down to the wire. I like Aubie. And Columbus will be on fire tonight as a result.

  18. Wulfpack 11/30/2013 at 6:34 PM #

First Wake. Now Duke. And where are we? In the dumpster. Get it together, Pack. Most embarrassed I’ve been.

  19. Wulfpack 11/30/2013 at 6:41 PM #

How did we ever get THIS bad where we aren’t even competitive against bad teams in a bad conference? Don’t tell Gus he can’t turn it around in one year.

  20. Wulfpack 11/30/2013 at 6:44 PM #

And the lore of McCarron lives on. What a call, too. Huge play.

  21. redcanine 11/30/2013 at 6:47 PM #

We would have found a way to step out of bounds at the 45 yard line.

  22. Wulfpack 11/30/2013 at 6:53 PM #

And Gus summons his inner Doeren and throws the game away. Tough call, I know. But this is now over. Tide vs Noles. Book it.

  23. redcanine 11/30/2013 at 6:54 PM #

    Nole Tide!

  24. Wufpacker 11/30/2013 at 6:59 PM #

    Not so fast, my friend.

  25. Wulfpack 11/30/2013 at 7:00 PM #

Not so fast is right. Should have known better.
