Stanford is who would deserve most to go ahead of tOSU…but I agree that probably wouldn’t happen. They won’t get enough love in the media vote.

  2. Wulfpack 11/08/2013 at 8:50 PM #

I definitely agree on that. Baylor has a tough road as well with Texas Tech, TCU, Texas and Okie State.

    KING HIPPO!!!

  4. bill.onthebeach 11/08/2013 at 8:51 PM #

FSU v. Stanford would be like watching the old Midway Monsters v. the CheeseHeads or the Vikings….

Two half-ton lines meeting at close range for sixty minutes.
Three yards and a cloud of dust or frost.

Final score of that one… 17-14…. you pick the winner.

  5. Wulfpack 11/08/2013 at 8:53 PM #

FSU has jugernauts Wake, Cuse, Idaho and then a bad Florida team. Then likely Miami again or maybe Duke. Not a great schedule. Look for Noles to rip Wake by 8 scores tomorrow.

  6. Wulfpack 11/08/2013 at 8:54 PM #

Duke with 108 points and still 2 minutes to play. They got players all over the joint.

  7. Wulfpack 11/08/2013 at 8:58 PM #

Ohio State closes with illinois, Indiana and meechigan, and then probably michigan state.

  8. wufpup76 11/08/2013 at 8:59 PM #

Anya went straight into the little mix-up there … the enforcer.

  9. bill.onthebeach 11/08/2013 at 9:00 PM #

Wufpack…. all things considered… I’m sure you can find a better way to say…. ‘all over the joint’…

Without an clear jpeg… that could be misunderstood by some tarholes….

  10. wufpup76 11/08/2013 at 9:01 PM #

    Good job Pack 🙂

Look forward to seeing how we look against Cincy

  11. bill.onthebeach 11/08/2013 at 9:04 PM #

Well… that was fun… we shoulda GOTT a hundred.

The biggest difference in the second half was that we stepped up the defensive pressure, got out on fast break
and had some fun with the ball.

This is Tyler’s team. He is going to be the guy that keeps everybody happy.
My “player of game award” goes to the Coaches… for getting these kids to come together this quickly.

As long as they play like this…. win or lose…. only the SFN lunatic fringe will bitch and moan. Considering the traffic here lately… nobody will hear them either.

And for those who might be interested…. Tarhole basketball starts in about 5 minutes without their homeboys… PJ and Leslie….

and Uncle Roy could give a sh&t about that.
    Just ask him…. off camera.

Are we playing football tomorrow ???

By the end of the season I think it will be Cat’s team but the thing I really liked is I saw no signs of entitlement. I think I’m gonna enjoy this ride. I’m sure there will be ups and downs but it the attitude shown tonight remains I think we will be happy.

    Investigate THAT Mrs. Capel!!

  14. Wulfpack 11/08/2013 at 9:12 PM #

Yep, the 6-2 Blue Devils. I don’t ever want to be a dog to Duke on the gridiron ever again.

    …..

Good win. App is terrible. Not sure we learned much. Gott looked like he wanted to eat Capel. Lee can play. Not sold on the starting lineup. Could be reminiscent of Jay Wright’s better small lineup teams at Nova if we can consistently knock down some threes and rebound. Could also be a rough year, lots of ups and downs.

We saw a lot of lineup combinations out there. IMO, the best wasn’t the starting five. I love moving Cuz between the 3 and 4. I’m not convinced that playing Lewis and Barber together for extended minutes, especially when the frontcourt consists of Cuz at the 4, is a good idea. That makes us really small, with one guard who doesn’t defend too well on the perimeter, and some really suspect rebounding. Given our defensive deficiencies, I think it’s a mistake. Against better offensive teams, we’ll be forced to play more in the halfcourt, and we won’t put up 97. I predict as the season goes on, we see less and less of the extended time for those two together.

Not just a dog…a TWO SCORE dog.

I would like to pretend tomorrow’s beating didn’t really happen.

  19. vtpackfan 11/08/2013 at 9:41 PM #

Team rebounding, hustling for loose balls, 19 team assists to 11 rebounds (only three by Lewis/Barber), and most importantly not playing down to the opponent. App may have quality SoCon players, but when you’re coached by a epic bum ex Tar Hole, it’s suffice to say you suck.

^Pack will surprise some folks at Wallace Wade tomorrow afternoon.

Coach GOTT sounded pleased with his team during the radio postgame interview.

Among other things, he said “This was going to be a fun team to watch…”… which translates “This IS a fun group of kids to coach… because they listen, work their butts off, do what you ask and don’t cause trouble… “.

After last season…. all I can say is (mimicking my teenager) …. “Duh ??”.

    Two observations…

The CROWD, especially the students, were LOUD. I think the attendance was well under 8,000…..just based on my guestimates of the empty seats and sections. However, the end zones were rocking. Really glad to see the students into the game.

NOW, back to the crowd…..SHAME on the big donors that did NOT show up. We are in the Lenovo Club and when we bought our Club Level seats, I really wanted to be in the side court area (Section 101-107 and the equivalent across the way. The WPC guy said that if I would cough up $100K….and that was in 2006….that he could find me some. It appears that a LOT of these seats were the “early” LTR’s which were much cheaper and were gobbled up by a lot of Corporate donors….or that was what I was told.

Tonight, section 101 – 107 was only about 50 – 60% full. LARGE blocks of open seats. FORTUNATELY the cameras were over there, so it did not look that bad. The OTHER side was OK….not full.

So, I sound like Coach D, but the team played GREAT tonight. They started slow, but gained momentum. As they got better, the crowd responded. IT is a PITY to see the empty seats from folks that purport to be LOYAL WP Fans.

Thanks for letting me RANT…..I enjoyed every minute of the game, except for Cat and Lewis ending up on the deck and seeing the tweetie birds flying around for a few minutes.

I was able to get to the game tonight, which was a real treat given that I live out of state. You see so many more things being in attendance than you do watching it on TV.

    Quick thoughts:
    – Lewis is the engine of this team. I like Cat and think he’s got a lot to offer, but Lewis sets everyone up well and sets the tone by being scrappy. He reminds me so much of Corch that it’s not funny.
    – Des Lee is going to be a crowd favorite. He is what we thought we were getting with Purvis last year. He showed me more (skills, effort, strength, toughness and shooting) than Purvis did all last season. This is a huge upgrade.
    – Warren can score pretty much any time he wants. He’s highly efficient. We need him to play better defense.
    – The freshman big men all gave good effort, played within themselves, made some nice plays, but also made some mistakes too. We’re thin in the middle and need Vandy back.
    – There were a couple of scary moments when Cat and Lewis hit the deck. It was nice to see them come back and it was nice that the fans booed the guy who hacked Cat.
    – The overall effort looks much, much better, particularly on defense.
    – I was really glad to see us win by 20+. It wasn’t the margin itself that I cared about, but instead the mental toughness. Once we made the push to get it up over 20, I was glad we didn’t just shut it down and let the game get uncomfortably close. App got it down to about 15 a couple of times, but we immediately pushed it back out. That’s the kind of killer instinct that has been missing from our basketball team for some time.
    – There were some fairly vocal App fans sitting near me. It seemed like they actually expected to come out with a victory. I think the App team itself did as well. App brought their best effort.
    – We’re much better than #9 in the ACC.

Gott had very kind and appreciative words for the students after the game. They sounded mighty raucous indeed. Keeping them surrounding the court this year should give this young team a lift.

“SHAME on the big donors that did NOT show up”

Adventuroo, with all due respectful, I gotta call “bullsh!t” on that sentiment.

SHAME on the those who scheduled the game on football Friday, the last night of regular season high school football.

But after tonight, I’m with you.

  25. SqlWolf 11/08/2013 at 11:16 PM #

Adventuroo, I’m with you. I made the same sort of comments after a couple of early games last year. I even suggested an alternative to allowing empty seats.Boy did I get it from some of the guys in here. Well, tonight, I’m sitting in section 216 with the wife plus kids and feeling a bit pissed at those people who support the team with their money but not their asses in the seats that they paid for. Go ahead light up the flamethrowers. Why not make your tix available for others to be there if you can’t/won’t?
