Brain Bleaching – Non-Dumpster Fire Football Open Thread

Thank God that catastrophe was the early game of the day, and very few people outside of NC saw it. Enjoy the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party as your bleach-y appetizer course.

Holy sh*t at Tampa/Seattle. 21-0 Bucs. Glennon one incompletion away from perfect with two scores, and a JUMP SHOT TD pass by the running back?!

Aside from the first five minutes of yesterday’s game, and the short skirts, the most fun I had was watching my pops, an old Pack olineman, go after a young yuppie UNC fan brazenly insulting everything NC State in the parking lot as we exited the stadium. It’s the only game he gets fired up about. The “old man” comment about threw him over the edge. I stepped in, reassured him the asshat would soon be eating asphalt, just leave it to the young folks to handle. I hope somebody put this punk in his place.

I got RW as a BYE week sub. 3 of 7 for 12 yds and an INT ain’t helping my cause.

  4. tjfoose1 11/03/2013 at 5:14 PM #

    Whiteshoes,

Even some in the u*nc coaching entourage coming down from the press box were being asses.

  5. tjfoose1 11/03/2013 at 5:17 PM #

And right on cue, Greg Little draws a flag for being a punk.

  6. packpowerfan 11/03/2013 at 5:22 PM #

TJ, Alex Smith was my BYE sub. He did f**k all today. Good chance I’m gonna drop this week because of that, despite the Chiefs’ D going aggro.

    Russell rallies…

    At the half:

    Glennon’s Bucs — 21
    Russell’s Seahawks — 7

    Really.

At the very least, should DD be on a short leash, it’s good to know that there are plenty of suitable coaching candidates right here in this thread.

  9. Alpha Wolf 11/03/2013 at 6:16 PM #

LOL, I picked up Tom Brady this week and started him after sitting Matt Ryan. Whoever cut Brady is an idiot, given Gronkowski is back and also because he’s Tom…freaking….Brady.

In the last year, when just about everybody was saying

    1. The ACC would split up and that Va Tech was gone, I said it would never happen.

    2. In June when I said Brandon Mitchell could not throw a football, most people on here were saying not to pre-judge.

    3. Last year I campaigned on here all fall with stats and figures to show why TOB had to go.

    4. Please mark this down and rub it in my face if I am wrong, Dave Doeren will be one of the great coaches in NC State history if he is not snatched away by a bigger school before that happens.

  11. Wufpacker 11/03/2013 at 6:40 PM #

Yeah, but did you add Jericho Cotchery to your fantasy roster today? Huh?

  12. eas 11/03/2013 at 7:03 PM #

I hope your #4 prediction is correct phillypacker. Looks like 1-3 were.

  13. bill.onthebeach 11/03/2013 at 7:29 PM #

Russell brings the Seahawks back and escapes with an OT field goal victory over Glennon’s Bucs…. 27-24

No question about it…. Glennon proved his mettle today.

Most interesting comment during the game….

Glennon has already put his name in the NFL record books…. for the most passes EVER thrown by ANYBODY in their first four games.

    Really.

Which just goes to show he plays for one of the worst franchises in the NFL. There will be major changes in Tampa so just hold your horses.

After some time to reflect, the game yesterday was awful, but some of you need to back off the ledge.

The fake punt was a bad call. We had just given up a TD pretty quickly to let them within 10-7, and a 3 and out would have put our D back on the field quickly, and I think he thought the surprise would help keep big Mo on our side. As it was, we were losing the Mo (or “loosing” if you are a Miami coed) and he wanted to keep it. As it turned is, that shot all the Mo we had.

We have no talent, especially on the O-line. Let me point out 2 instances I noticed – on one play we had 1, yes 1 receiver out in the pattern and 3 U*NX DB’s on the receiver. Mitchell forced it into coverage and fortunately it was incomplete. Early in the 4th, once again, we sent out only 2 receivers into the pattern, and this was the one that was INT. Now the question – WHY do we only send 1 or 2 receivers into the pattern? I have seen this several times all year. We have to keep the backs in to help block – THAT is how bad our O-line is.

Mitchell had a bad game and made some bad decisions. Thomas has had to run for his life, not because he wants to run, but because he has no time to throw, and when/if he does have time, he still has to run becasue 4-5 DB’s can cover 1-2 receivers.

Give DD some time – I know we have been saying that for years. We have 2 star talent and it is showing. I give DD some credit for what he has done so far – in spite of one ill timed fake.

    ^^Indubitably.

At least I have the Panthers!

  18. Wulfpack 11/03/2013 at 8:14 PM #

Panthers are kicking it into high gear. A game back of the Saints and in line for a playoff spot. Newton is a different guy this year and the D is top 3.

  19. BJD95 11/03/2013 at 8:38 PM #

I finally had enough and benched Tom Brady this week (for Jake Locker), ugh. Also started McFadden over either of the Bills runners. Double ugh.

Fortunately, Keenan Allen (all 3 of my Bronco wideouts on bye) and the Panthers’ D did enough for me to win. c

My God, phillypacker, you’re like Barack Obama. You’re just never wrong are ya, bud?

  21. Greywolf 11/03/2013 at 9:11 PM #

” … until he chided the fans in his first ever game. ”

I know it’s game day and we just lost a game we all very much wanted to win… I was there and couldn’t ‘change channels.’ But DD didn’t chide the us, he told us he needed us in our seats, etc. That’s very different from what he has been accused of doing.

Our O-Line is something we just can’t hide. We are playing boys against men. Our OL should be acknowledged for going out there every Saturday and getting their asses handed to them, taking a physical beating and yet not quitting.

Our problem isn’t just at QB or DB or LB.

  22. Prowling Woofie 11/03/2013 at 9:21 PM #

Agreed, Greywolf – we have one 5-star OL, and his career is over due to a concussion…

Long road, I’m afraid, folks !

  23. Adventuroo 11/03/2013 at 9:42 PM #

I always DVR the DD show and often will watch the SD version that is on TWC 106. We have been out of town since Sept 20 on a MH trip. We left right after the FSU game.

I have NOT watched a lot of the DD shows this year.

Tonight, there was probably less than 2 minutes of actual comments about the game. The “spearing” rule was discussed as well as the usual.

There was a LOT of fill or fluff that could have been “in the can” for many weeks.

I would ask those that regularly have watched the show this season if tonight’s show was typical or was there a pervasive attitude of NOT discussing what happened and what went wrong.

I am a DD fan from day one, but even TOB would talk about what worked and what didn’t and what would be done. It is almost, as a casual observance, like he is still TOO MAD to talk and decided that no comment was better than what was really on his mind.

    Just curious…..

Let’s hope the kid from Florida is a workable QB next year and that we can get some good play from the recruits coming in. While I hardly expect to vie for a division championship, it would be nice to see some improvement and maybe a Tire Bowl if things pan out the right way.

As for Deoren, well, he’s learning too. He certainly got a good object lesson in what asses the team and coaches from Chapel Hill are. He got a good object lesson in the game referees’ deference to them — the head-to-head call on Price being overturned is a perfect example of it.

If there was one good thing to come from yesterday it was the gift of a motivating tool for the coaches in terms of the logo stomping.

Due to John Fox’s heart condition, Peyton Manning will continue to be the Broncos’ head coach
