At Least There’s Basketball

The anti-climactic finish to the 2013 Football season is mercifully over.

At least for us.

Time to reload those fragile emotions for basketball.

The Pack is at home tonight facing the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky.

ESPN3 game, already underway (Pack currently trailing…don’t say it)

A Link to a non-ESPN3 stream for those who need it.

Talk about it here….

Des Lee is one cool cat.

If I am dead, and this is all I dream…have to say I am underwhelmed by my brain.

And where is King Hippo? All the fat guys in the stands (and behind our keyboards) want to see our idol.

    Wow way to go guys

Up fourteen at the 4-minute TO (3:35 left.) Some real hustle by Vandenberg, Barber and Warren have turned the game around in the second half.

WOOOOO – just tuned in to see Vandy’s jam, then stuff followed by Turner’s jam. Sweet.

    I’m on the Vandwagon!

For those stuck with no viewing options….

65-51 Pack, under 4 to play.
Pack has an 11-0 run going in the past 2-ish minutes.

As previously stated, Vandy is the key to the zone puzzle.

I like that Coach ran Vandy’s play (the dunk) after the no call at half court…

Yeah it would’ve been nice to see some KH action

Gott is prejudiced. Just because he’s all in shape and gets to have carnal relations without paying for it.

    Lolll

Some great execution in the second half. Started on the defensive end, and we’re nearing 50 points in this half after looking sh*t awful in the first.

    Good job

    Feedin’ the ‘Berg…

  12. BJD95 11/30/2013 at 9:44 PM #

The other players think Vandy slams are just as much fun as we do. Huzzah.

    Go Vberg go

So Buckets broke out the peoples elbow in the second half and Barber broke the zone by pushing tempo.

God help us if we didn’t have either of those 2.

Tony Warren is best scorer the Pack has had in 20+ years. #tjbuckets

Nice win. EKU is a quality team. Glad they showed zone as goni9ng forward the Pack has to understand how to attack the zone.

This game will go far (in a lot of ways) toward getting us where we hope to be I think.

    Vandy line…

7-9 from the floor– 0-0 from the line for 14pts.
    8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 turnover, 3 fouls….

and TJ stole another 3-5 rebs from him…

The big man is the key that makes the other guys run.

Look for Vandy’s game to step up fast as his confidence grows.

and Alpha F ESPN and their streaming. Tried both a Wndows machine and a Linux machine (where I can control everything absolutely). I have brodband (not the fattest pipe like you but quite enough). I queried ESNP CS on the issue and have gotten the usual BS. I will be responding point by point tomorrow as tonight my response would be simply “you suck”.

I think a few people need to reconsider their comments from this article I wrote:

    http://www.statefansnation.com/2013/10/is-jordan-vandenberg-the-wolfpacks-x-factor-this-season/

  21. PoppaJohn 11/30/2013 at 10:25 PM #

Me! I need to reconsider my comments.
I apologize Vandy. I never imagined you’d be a player. I’m right there with everyone else, loving every minute of it.

However, to dampen MY OWN enthusiasm for his play – in the post game interview even Vandy said (paraphrasing), “let’s wait for league play to see if it is real.”

  22. Alpha Wolf 11/30/2013 at 10:49 PM #

^ Agreed. The league will be a lot tougher…BUT…Vandy’s mere presence puts players like TJ in their proper place on the floor and it makes the defense take account of him and therefore not focus as much on other players.

  23. Wufpacker 11/30/2013 at 11:12 PM #

Vandy certainly seems to be aspiring to surpass any and all expectations. I’ll happily eat some crow, and I hope there’s more to eat once league play gets here.

To repost what I put on Facebook (and a term I’ve stolen from Plywood, unless otherwise used first elsewhere):

This guy is on the Vandwagon. I have been bashing him for years for being overweight, slow, and just bad at athletic pursuits in general. Finally, his Aussie instincts (the ones that allow him to survive how badly his motherland wants to kill all its inhabitants) have taken over, and he can take the reins from Dennis Horner as the “Kinda-okay-at-basketball-but-most-definitely-insane” guy on the squad.

I know it isn’t an ACC quality slate, but after his first two games of the season I have to say: Jordan Vandenberg…I’m sorry.

    Alpha,

I re-read your article. I also remember so many NEGATIVE comments about Vandy here last year and before, that if I had a nickel for each one, I could upgrade my LTR’s to the Vaughn Towers and have some pocket change left over.

From the arena, we were just “out of it”. It seems like we need to play for a while to size up the team and then figure out HOW to handle it.

Mikey K, as MUCH as I despise him, NEVER lets that happen and Roy (as well as Dean) would platoon in the Blue Team.

We need to learn HOW to come out strong and finish strong.

As to Tyler, did ANYONE notice, other than half the arena and the broadcasters (the radio was on when I pottied at half) that Tyler was the ONLY spark in the first half. We had 12 on the board and Tyler had 6.

Cat is great……but he made some poor (Freshman?) decisions at PG and also turned over the ball. Once he was getting “loved” by Gott and Lutz, and watching what Tyler was doing, he came back in with a little more maturity.

If Tyler had NOT come in and Gott had not gone zone, then the second half would NOT have been as enjoyable.

Vandy was the HIT of the show. His stats belie his impact. He was also EXCITED (never seen THAT before) and the fans cheered and made him feel “LOVED” and he fed on it.

Warren looked at his numbers during the half….and decided that he needed to improve his average and that as the season went on, it would be tougher to get 30 points against REAL competition.

Gott also decided that ONCE the guys were playing as a team, they needed to keep it up. He did NOT clear the bench…..he kept them in and focused….something that they have issues with when we get a double digit lead and there is more than 5 minutes left.

It was a MISERABLE 15 minutes….THEN we woke up….and the rest of the game was very enjoyable. Gott said that this would be a good RPI win as the Colonels and Bellmont would be NCAA Cinderella teams.

    I HOPE he is right.

Our test will come next week.
