The Rivers Resurgence

Our boy Phil isn’t quite getting the attention he deserves thanks to Peyton Manning’s ridiculous performances so far this season, but Phil will always be one of my All-time favorite State players. There is no coincidence that Phil’s play is related to San Diego finally getting rid of Norv Turner who single handedly brought a 14-win playoff team down to .500.  It couldn’t have happened soon enough.

There are a couple of great articles out today that our worth Checking out.  First is the Yahoo Sports article that leads with:

Were it not for the unprecedented silliness that Peyton Manning and the Broncos have unleashed in the opening weeks, then Philip Rivers’ rebirth would probably be the dominant story in the NFL. Rivers isn’t merely having a bounce-back year. Instead, he’s playing at a level few quarterbacks have ever sustained.

And one from Peter King at SI who talks about Phil’s bond with his new coaches and the added talent in San Diego:

Rivers is on his way to one of the best years of his NFL life—the best, if he keeps playing like he did in September. Through four weeks, Rivers is by far the most accurate he’s been in his career (his 73.9 completion rate is 8 percent better than his previous career best), and though he’s concentrating on making the safer throws this year, he’s also on pace for the most prolific passing season of his life: 4,796 yards, 44 touchdowns.

I find it quite blasphemous to call him Phil rather than the proper Philip, or more appropriate, Football Jesus.

He’s straight dealin’ this season. Surgical.

I could not be happier for my all-time favorite Wolfpack player. My first State game was the Gator bowl in 2003 when we crushed ND and after that, I was hooked for life.

It was so sad watching Rivers struggle mightily under Norv and Smith, who refused to change the offensive philosophy and consistently let the top talent leave for greener pastures, respectively.

While it will be tough competing with the Broncos and Chiefs in the AFC West this season, Philip is finally getting the attention he deserves (again).

“one of my all-time favorite State players”
    Understatement?

Imagine that. PR gets a good (but still not GREAT) O-Line in front of him and puts up some redonkulous numbers.

    Oh yeah – I forgot – he’s washed up.

    NOT

His play has been great so far. Too bad Denver and KC are in the same division.

Phil is having a nice season so far. No fumbled snaps that I can recall. But ever since he endorsed Rick Santorum, the best I can muster is a courteous golf clap.

Philip Rivers is one of my all time favorites. Both as a FB player and as a person.
Payton Manning is also a favorite – for his skill and his dedication.
Between them and those NFC west ‘Hawks I’m really tempted to return to DirecTV.

Love Phillip, but afraid he will run a foul of my Broncos. Love Russell better. He and Peyton might duel in the SB. Here’s to Mike Glennon! I hope he has a Rivers-like career.

Glennon has his work cut out for him with that bad team. He was decent last week. But when Schiano is fired it is up for grabs. Hope he can impress enough.
