October 12 Open College Football Thread

It’s not a great slate by any means, but we do get to enjoy Mack Brown Schadenfreude and a potentially interesting Mizzou/Jawja game in the noon window (ABC and ESPN, respectively). Later tonight, I’m interested in TAMU at Ole Miss (8:30, ESPN). Hopefully something will be unexpectedly interesting in between. We shall see.

The raging semi will be back for Pack/Orange at 3:30, what with it being Cowdog Appreciation Day and all…

Longhorns opening up a can. Mrs. Texpack is pleased.

We got us a game in Athens again. 2pt conversion fails, but no matter. Plenty of time.

  3. Wufpacker 10/12/2013 at 2:51 PM #

Indeed Tex. Ol’ Mack must have given motivational pre-game speech #4.

They’re acting like MNC contenders today.

Agree with Mr. P – I am wearing dual-purpose red today!

Dawgs roaring back, but that dropped 2 pointer may come back to haunt.

I’m curious why EVERY StL/LA game is on TBS…while EVERY Bos/Det game is on Fox. Seems odd.

VT trying to hold on in Blacksburg vs the other new kid on the block.

Mizzou trickeration for 6, but botched extra point keeps UGA very much alive.

Fox has ALCS and WS only rights, because they only care about the Yankees and Red Sox (see their regular season coverage). I am happy not to get the awful Fox announcers.

Dual purpose red – I like it!

I’d be a very happy camper to get two wins out of the day. Beating Greinke (or rather a Greinke start since he was long gone) was huge for StL. I was impressed with Kelly hanging tough despite some early control trouble . Yadi is such a great on field manager for the young staff.

    And Ellis was out!

Mizzou puts the nail in the coffin. 🙁

Bob “Big Game” Stoops chokes away another one.
How that guy makes what he does is beyond me but then again it IS the Big 12.

I have felt that the SEC East is overrated, and it is looking more and more like that is the case. Georgia now with two losses and the great escape against Tennessee last week. Cocks have been a disappointment as their D is not the stout unit it once was. Florida has no offense. So Mizzou controls its own destiny there in the East. I think any of Bama, LSU and TAMU would win the East.

Oregon and Washington could be very interesting.

Clemson pulling a Clemson against BC, though it is early. BC is not a bad team from what i have seen.

UVA will kick a long FG to win at MD. Curious clock management by Mike London.

  13. BJD95 10/12/2013 at 7:07 PM #

And he pushes it, Turtles will win. That’s the kind of thing that gets you fired.

  14. BJD95 10/12/2013 at 7:09 PM #

I should add – it was the Hoos’ backup kicker. Oregon pounding Washington, only Penn State/Meeeechegan is competitive.

London (and TOB) will be hitting the road in December.

    Utah up on Stanford.

This has not been a great college football season thus far. Very predicable. No big upsets. The way I see it, we have three big games to decide who plays the SEC West winner in the big one: Clemson/FSU, Stanford/Oregon, and maybe Ohio State/Michigan. Lville will not have a chance.

No Forums so I have to plug it in here, but here is proof that some were concerned about the viability of the ACC after maryland bolted for the Big 10:

There have been some good weeks, but this is not one of them. Very up and down.

I do feel like there’s a very big dropoff after the top handful of teams this year, which takes away some of the excitement.

Team Bad Touch has hit the wall, it seems. Utah is a very pesky squad. Bama is meh early. Right now, I think Oregon would beat them.

OT in PA. Because Brady Hoke’s defense is turr’ble.

Stanford’s loss is a biggie for Clemson, FSU and Ohio State.

Not sure if anyone’s still around, but a classic Game 1 in the ALCS. Sanchez (Tiger) has given up no hits through six, and got out of a bases loaded two out jam in that inning.

It’s been a really good pitchers’ duel … Lester just left the game in the top of the seventh for the Red Sox with a runner on.

A record 8 SEC teams are ranked in the top 25.

Three ACC teams are ranked in the top 10 as Miami is in at 10th. VT is ranked 19th and looks like they could compete to win the Coastal.

Ohio State moves up to 4th and FSU 5th with the Cardinal loss.

So the ACC game of the year Saturday features third ranked Clemson and fifth ranked FSU. Wow. This is must see tv for the college football fan.
