Sept. 28 Open College Football Thread

Here is where we discuss all games other than the captivating State/Central Michigan tilt (be still my beating heart).

My record last week identifying watchable games was wretched, to put it mildly. Let’s hope this week shakes out better.

For those of you that, like me, don’t expect the Chickens and UCF to be a sleeper matchup, eyes should focus on Okie State at West Virginia (noon, ESPN). The ‘eers have been awful early on, but will be playing at home with their backs squarely against the wall. Needless to say, we will all hope for the earth to open and swallow both sides in Chapel Hill. Just pray for a quick game, so it doesn’t bleed into the SEC time window that much. I hate you, Raycom and WRAL.

The bad news is that State’s game is opposite the clear Game of the Day. The good news is that you only need to flip over to that one game – LSU at Georgia (3:30, CBS). Some people will watch Oklahoma/ND, but I have no earthly idea why. The new, cool Pope says it’s OK not to give a shit about this one.

A cornucopia of SEC options late – Bama’s trap game against Ole Miss (6:30, ESPN), TAMU at Arky (7:00, ESPN2), and the train wreck that is Florida at Kentucky (7:00, ESPNU). Plus the first of several possibly interesting Pac 12 matchups, Arizona at Washington (7:00, Fox). Certainly 2 of those 4 will be watchable. I consider Wiscy at OSU to be dull and unwatchable, unless the other four flame out.

Stanford at the Fighting Mike Leaches (10:00, ESPN) might be the under the radar game of the day, for you insominiacs. And you can flip to Southern Cal at Arizona State (10:30, ESPN2) and look out for HWSNBM sightings. Plus, you know, the Sun Devil cheerleaders.

    No flipping here.

    ESPN3 on one screen.

    Dawgs on the other.

“Plus, you know, the Sun Devil cheerleaders.”

It’s not just the cheerleaders my friend. Why do you think I bike thru campus regularly? One of the few things I’m gonna miss around here.

I too, would go back and change everything. Primarily, I would work harder and get a scholarship to attend Arizona State. With those numbers, even an unequivocally average dude such as myself should be able to succeed. Or hell, just looking everyday would be nice LMAO.

Well, look at it this way….if you were an ASU alum, you’d still be having to deal with being a Herbivore.

    But then again…there is this….

And you’re welcome for both the audio and the visuals on this one:

I would be like an annoying EZU idiot, and only follow my alma mater for football. Hee hee.

  6. Wufpacker 09/28/2013 at 9:32 AM #

    ^^ Haha.

    Now THAT’s an interesting choice.

    New respect for Herbivores…

We need WV Wolf to provide interesting commentary for our lone tolerable early game.

Today’s ACC slate is exactly why the conference is perceived to be so weak. Awful. Ohio state vs Wisconsin is my must see of the day, followed by LSU and UGA.

The ACC could have fixed the “9 conference games” issue by counting the rotating ND matchups as 1 of the 9. Either with it counting in the league standings or not (could always count it only if not counting would impact who makes the title game).

But nooooo, why have a shred of creative thought when we could claim to have “no choice” but these continued shitburger weeks.

USF just knotted it up at 7 with DaU.

The ACC does seem to have a hard time creating interesting match ups week in and week out. Hopefully they’ll start to get that under control with th addition of Louisville, though Bridgewater (and possibly Strong) will be gone next year…

And wow…UCF jacking up the ‘Cocks thus far.

    Heh.

  14. BJD95 09/28/2013 at 12:24 PM #

Steve Spurrier looks like his head might explode at any moment.

Maybe UCF will be good enough to spare us from Louisville in the title game, at least.

The Knights have the Cocks firmly in their grasp…

    ^ Nice.

From now on you write all of my jokes for me.

    NIU up @Purdue 10-7.

DD didn’t leave a bare cupboard apparently.

….and just got the turnover in Purdue territory as I’m typing.

I can’t be happy for either side of the ignoramus bowl. But it would be kinda cool to see the methheads burn Chapel Hill to the ground.

That would be the last of the scheduling pressure from the legislature.

ECU is annoying. Hatred runs deep for UNC.

    Easy choice for me.

  21. BJD95 09/28/2013 at 12:48 PM #

I can never watch games between any of Holes, Pie-rats, or Irish. No way to even marginally find a rooting interest. I hate all 3 of them so very f-cking much.

Penn State is now a close 4th, anyone else a distant 5th.

That shows how much I hate the first three (and/or how warped my priorities are) that Team Bad Touch is only 4th.

  22. Wufpacker 09/28/2013 at 12:53 PM #

That’s how I feel when the heels and twerps go at it. ECU next up.

After that, it just becomes a general dislike at the worst.

EDIT – Sorry, forgot about Clemson. They’re about ECU level for me.

  23. 1.21 Jigawatts 09/28/2013 at 12:54 PM #

The hardest part about watching ECU/UNC is the crappy production of the ACCN and its announcers.

  24. 1.21 Jigawatts 09/28/2013 at 1:00 PM #

Brynn (another awesome name for a tarhole “Skye”) Renner intercepted after a big punt return by *NC.

  25. Wufpacker 09/28/2013 at 1:03 PM #

I’ve only got UNC/ECU in VERY not HD.

But I suppose I should overlook that and be more amazed that a real TV station, located 5 hrs from California, and 2 hrs from Mexico carries the ACCN at all, huh?

But seriously…how did I watch sports before HD?
